Lacks response of the previous verion (SPS-610)

This latest version of the Type-S receives a beefed-up ribbed surround and metal basket, and but otherwise features an identical tweeter to it's predecessor (the SPS-610). What I love about Alpine and these speakers are their commitment to a full 1" sized silk tweeter (competitors are usually offering just a 3/4" sized silk or hybrid/metallic tweeter) on a mid-level speaker. This means rich sounds on high frequencies with more natural attenuation, lacking the harshness often found in metallic or hybrid tweeters (I'm looking at you, Kicker). The one downside to this updated Type-S is the more rigid surround sacrifices some response to the mid, at the benefit of increasing power and durability. The plastic basket from the old model is gone, now featuring a newer stamped steel basket. Overall a great set of speakers, if you plan on amplifying them. Driving them off just deck power will certainly make you want more.

2 months after purchase the driver side blew out and split the rubber around the speaker. Will not be buying again.
