I was confident of the quality as another family member has one. She cannot turn the volume up louder than 3 clicks because it becomes staticky with poor sound quality. It is probably not a common malfunction, but by the time she told me of the malfunction we were past the return policy date, as I bought it well before christmas.

Junk - Don't Buy

(It's supposed to charge your phone as your listening) Well, it depletes the battery and will never take a charge again. I sent it back to Altec Lansing and they sent me a replacement and it happened again. That function does not work. BTW Altec Lansing charges you for the shipping.
