Amana - 3.5 Cu Ft 8 Cycle Top Loading Washer is a great washer. Clothes comes out clean every time. Never had a problem with it.

Efficient and simple to use. Works just as good as the really expensive washers, but for half the price.

I really like my new washer. It works great and gets our clothes nice and clean. Plus it's an energy saver which is what we wanted.

My experience with this washer has been less than satisfactory in several ways. Some is with the unit itself, but some is with Best Buy's sales/install/delivery. Pros: - The washer works - Price is good Cons: - Design of the unit is poor (read on) - The auto-sense feature for determining how much water to put in is pretty bad. In the future I will only ever buy a unit which allows me to use my actual human brain to decide how much water I want to use, like my old washer, rather than rely on some lame-nonbrained computer sensors. - Terrible design choice to put the outlet drain on the BOTTOM of the washer on the back instead of near the top like every other washer I've had experience with, then pair that with a mated drain hose which is only about 3-4 feet long. About 60% of buyers will be like me with washer/dryers in a utility room that has standard hose hookups including the drain that are about 6-7 feet UP in the air on purpose (so that they are about 3-4 feet ABOVE the top of the washer). This works great with washers like my last one that had the outlet hookup near the top. And since this unit has the hookups way down at the bottom the drainage hose that comes with this, which has a special end designed to mate with snugly with the washer outlet, that means you need about a 7 foot hose but the one that comes with the machine is only about 3-4 feet long. Amana's website offers a "extension kit" for about $20 but you can't actually BUY it from them, instead their website will only direct you to nearby hardware/home depot/lowe's NONE of which carry it. So instead you will waste time/money either buying a "universal" 7 foot long type hoses sold at those place or at amazon etc and instead find that the universal hoses do not properly attach well, leading you to having to buy the "extension kit" from some on-line parts dealer for a jacked up price of about $50-70!!!! Plus deal with some parts dealers who mistakenly list the "kit" but actually only sell an extension hose (MISSING the needed short piece that joins together the original hose and the extension piece). It took me almost a MONTH b4 I was able to get the right thing (for $60!!) after already spending $500 on the washer, $15 on a "universal" hose which did not attach right, another $10 on a hose that didn't fit which I had to return, $20 on a "kit" that did not include the needed joint piece with the clamps, etc etc etc etc. Talk about frustrating. And ADD to that that I saw in BestBuy that the hose drain was at the bottom and ASKED the salesman how long the included hose was and after him spending 10-15 minutes trying to look that up on his PC he could not find the answer! - Wreaks of "cheap" (but that probably applies to most appliances these days). Most everything in this is plastic, even all the hose hookups. This washer must weigh about 10 times less than my old one since it is almost entirely plastic. Which means it shakes and shimmy's like crazy during the spin cycle. - I had to return the 1st washer that BestBuy brought over because the ceramic (?) coating on the inside of the drum had a defect missing the ceramic about the size of a penny. Poor craftmanship and zero Quality Control. - The unit does NOT drain properly. It ALWAYS leaves water inside underneath the drum which you can hear sloshing around if you jostle the drum or the whole washer. This explains why the manual mentions to leave the LID UP when the unit is not running so it doesn't "smell" (because there is always going to be standing water inside). BestBuy hassles: - Salesman insisted that they needed to send over someone from the Geek Squad prior to the install to make sure the washer would fit inside the house and get down the stairs to my utility room. This was despite the fact that I told him it was the SAME dimensions (actually smaller) than my old washer. That meant a Geek Squad visit in a 6 hour window which I had to wait around for for hours. And since I work nights and sleep during the day I chose the earliest window they had (7am to 1pm) which is my 7pm to 1 AM! And it was NOT even a Geek Squad person that came anyways - it was one of the delivery/install people. - I had to stay up waiting for THREE different BB visits - the first for the "Geek Squad" to make sure the washer would fit (totally unnecessary), who came about 10:30PM my time. The 2nd for the actual install (about 11:30PM my time). Then another for the return of the defective washer and delivery of a new one (they didn't come until about 1AM my time). Hints: - IF YOU ARE WASHING ANY TOWELS, sheets, or anything bulky you CANNOT use the "Normal" setting, since that will spin dry very very fast and cause the washer to shake all over the place. I can only get my washer to stay on the floor if I use the BULKY ITEMS setting for that, even if it is only one or two towels mixed in any clothes (or by themselves).

Since there are only 2 of us, we did not need a very large washer and this model has worked out very well for our needs.
