Good TV, horrible remote

However, the remote became completely unresponsive. Purchased brand new batteries and nothing. I was able to find another Fire TV remote I had and paired that to the TV. In the remote list, it still showed the original remote, but was "offline." So the remote had to have gone bad. Now I need to haul this thing across town to exchange it just for the remote. And unfortunately, TVs these days have a max of 1 button on the TV itself, so without the remote it is just a brick that can be turned on/off and that's it.
