I love the back light and size of my new kindle. I just have to learn how to navigate it completely since it it so different from my old one. In the old one I had back and forward turn buttons that I had to press, in the new one you touch the screen in lower right to go forward or left side to go back. I also found a cheap case on Amazon that turns it off and on when opened and closed.

Bought this during the beginning of the pandemic. I had an older version that I barely used and found out it could no longer update so it was useless. I love the size and how thin it is. I can put this in my purse and be on the go. Def recommend to those who don’t need anything extra going on.

One of my favorite purchases ever. The battery-life is unbelievable, the new built-in light makes it much better. No need to buy the paperwhite for the additional PPI and storage.

Inexpensive, diminutive, and the batteries go a LONG time! While this unit does not have the ‘bells and whistles’ of the higher-priced Kindle readers, it retains all the functionality with a nice white and easily readable screen, despite its small size. We homeschool our daughters and the books can start taking over your house after a while! Plus, with COVID-19 library access has been drastically limited. These readers are INCREDIBLY thin, light, and handy! We can put a whole year’s worth reading on the Kindles and still have room to live in the house! An added advantage—ebooks are much cheaper than their paper cousins! While an older adult may benefit from a larger screen, the size is perfect for my young teens. The Kindle doesn’t even take up much space on the desk, in the purse, or tucked into a pocket—this is truly an easily transported and stored device! Parental controls are available, and my wife even locked the units down so the kids couldn’t go on any wild book shopping sprees! Amazing technology, in a tiny package...the kids love these Kindles, and so do we!

I have been a fan of the Kindle Reader since the very first model (I still have and use the kindle keyboard sometimes). However, up until now, there hasn't been a real reason to upgrade if you already have a previous model. The paper-like display, the resolution, and functionality have basically remained the same. Don't take me wrong, these features alone are enough to buy the product, especially if you do not have one, or experienced it before. But finally we get to see some improvements that were only available on more advanced models. This time, Amazon has added an adjustable light which allows for reading at night without having to use a light source (lamp, clip-on light, etc.). You can also pair it via Bluetooth to headphones and speakers for a seamlessly reading-listening experience from Audible (if you have it). Sadly, there is no text-to-read option though. The design remains the same as well. It is slim, has rounded edges, and while the bezels are not the smallest, they work well for holding it without laying your fingers on the 6" screen. It is very easy to hold and operate with one hand and the battery, as always, is outstanding. I do wish it still had some tactile page turn buttons, and that the 167 ppi (pixel count) would be a bit higher, but it does not break the deal for me. I gave one to my Mom on her day and she absolutely loved it. For an additional $40 dollars you can get the Paperwhite which offers a flush-front screen, higher resolution, is slimmer, has 2X the storage, and if it's your thing to read while taking a bath, is waterproof. In the end, this is a great entry point into these devices and gives people a good reason to finally update from an older model. Still the best value.

The Kindle has no screen glare, even in bright sunlight. It has a built in light for reading in at night while someone is trying to sleep next to you. It has a touch screen for getting around like turning pages, and shopping in the store. It has Bluetooth so it sync this up with a speaker or headphones, so you can listen to your favorite book. Lots of storage, too. The battery charge lasts for long time, not hours. Its very light is to carry around But favorite is its waterproof

Nice and light! Very easy to read in bright light and low light. The user interface is not especially intuitive for us coming from iPads / IOS operating systems. Someone used to Android may have a different experience. During startup and when making changes to the system, it is slow compared to an iPad and that takes a bit to get used to. Once you are ina book, page turns, etc. are fast enough. We went for a 5 week holiday and as we got on the first plane, realized my wife had left her phone on the kitchen counter being charged. Since we would be in Europe, we decided to get by w/o the phone but she needed to access her ebooks. We bought this reader and are now thinking of getting one for me.

    Best Kindle Ever!

I've had three Kindles so far - the original paperwhite version, a Fire and now this new paper white and it is by far my favorite. The best feature (as it was with the original) is that you can read it in full sunlight (I spend a lot of time at the beach - perhaps too much time some people say - but, hey, that's my Zen time and it's nobody's bees wax anyway). It syncs quickly via Wi-Fi and I've had no issues in that regard as I did with my earlier one. They've eliminated the physical side page-turning buttons. Now you change pages by tapping on either side of the screen or by swiping. That took a little getting used to, but now when you pick it up you don't accidentally hit a button and turn the page (which used to happen to me a lot!). This latest e-reader is great. The price is very good and I'm a total fan. Gotta go. It's beach time.

Got this for my wife to replace her old one. It is PERFECT! I splurged a couple years ago and got the Oasis (had a gift card), and it’s great... but bigger, heavier and sometimes a little overkill. This new Kindle is awesome. The backlight is perfect, software is easy & fast — and best yet, it is lightweight and small — which makes it even better for reading often!

I felt frivolous purchasing this when I have an older model Kindle (without a light) and multiple forms of technology to read e-books with... but I bought it on sale online on Black Friday weekend, received it very promptly, and am in love with it. This is the perfect size to carry around with me, and it's so light and convenient to hold when reading. The lighting is perfect too and doesn't strain my eyes. It's worth it

I’m so happy with my Kindle. This is my first one and I was hesitant because I thought it was too much of a splurge right now. I was wrong. So happy I got it. Very lightweight and easy to carry in my purse versus lugging around a heavy book. Probably not healthy to do, but Nice to read in the dark - I don’t have to keep a reading lamp on. The only not so good feedback is sometime it jumps a few pages ahead when I tap for the next page. Other than that, it’s just what I needed. I check books out through my library online. So happy!

Great Access To Your Library of Books

Greatest way to read books. One can have multiple books one is reading at the same time and one's place in each read is kept for your next return. One can store hundreds of books for sure. The download of any book from whatever Kindle source is super fast. Basic model is black and white so illustrations and photos are less good but mostly legible. The new built in light works just fine, but I only need a very little light in order to read, even at night. New model has great battery life. My former one was great until about 4-5 years of recharges. I did a trade-in to get another with better battery life, though my old one still kept the charge for about a week at that point. I bought from Best Buy in order to get a better price. Was $20 dollars cheaper. But was on sale. If you need to spend more to get more features, go ahead. I do not need that. So nice to be able to carry hundreds of books around available at any time. Makes it a breeze to fly through a book. You can also borrow books from Kindle through one's local library if they have that feature. I use "Digital Downloads." A purchase from Amazon is immediate delivery. Like I said, I love my Kindle. Marked down the touch screen a little because I have lost my place in my reading if I cough or sneeze and my finger slips and I am three pages away. Think that is maybe too sensitive. Small beef though. Am a senior so learning the new touch screen which was different from the former setup and a new way around the system, but just a little relearning was needed. Great purchase.

I git mine right before the shelter in place started, so the library closure didn't affect me. Anyway, the first time I picked it up, I was surprised by how light it felt! The plastic felt really cheap, but there isn't much to expect at this price. It is a nice glare-free screen which can light up if you want to read in the dark. The controls aren't the most intuitive, but they're easy enough to get used to. The text is clear and I have no issues reading from it. Something I would recommend. P.S. People either love reading on the kindle or they really dislike it, because they want physical books. You might be in either category, you won't know till you try it.

Amazon Kindle - a solid e-Reader with some quirks

When it comes to e-readers, the Amazon Kindle is hard to beat. For a fairly reasonable price, you get an e-ink display, built-in backlight, wireless connectivity, MONTHS of battery life, and so much more. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my local library offers e-book rentals, the same way one would "check-out" a physical book. Combine that with the vast expanse of books available in the kindle store (many of which are free for Prime members!) and you've got a lifetime's worth of stories - all in the palm of your hand. Speaking of the hand... my one major dislike of this Kindle is the placement of the power button, which is located on the bottom. I prefer to hold the device one handed (from the bottom) and need to consciously avoid an accidental button press... (I'd like to think the Amazon engineers were holding the schematic upside down...!)
