I already haad to Echo dots and needed another. i decided to get this product because of the superior speakers to the Dot's speakers. It set up just as easy as the Dot's and the music sounds great, can hear it well in the Kitchen, Dinning room and Living room. Highly recommend this.

The Amazon Alexa is so easy to use, just talk to it. It will give you any kind of music you want to listen to. As well as, answer questions, give you a weather report, Give you recipes, tell you the news, play games, you name it, chances are Alexa can help you with it. We love it.

Home Automation is Here!

I waited a while before going with Amazon to start automating my home. I had considered Google Home, but since I wanted to have multiple rooms linked, it was much cheaper to go the Echo route since the Dot was only $40/each on sale. It has more after-market apps and seems to be integrated into more home automation systems (lights, TVs, alarm systems, etc.) than Google Home. It is also much sleeker and attractive to have sitting in your living room than Google. It is a bit of a novelty at the moment but is quickly becoming an integral part of our house.
I was a little disappointed in the pricing ($140 on sale) since the Echo Dot, as I mentioned, was only $40 and does everything the Echo does, minus a better speaker. The Dot does have a 3.5mm output jack, so you can hook it up to a sound system or Bluetooth speaker. So, if you do not use your Echo to listen to music, it was a little overkill for the price.

The sound quality is great. My favorite thing is that I can tell Alexa things I need on my grocery list while I am in the kitchen, and then it automatically goes into my app. So it is all there when I am shopping! I always forget to add things to my list, so this saves my life.

I love my Echo...I had the smaller Dot & the Echo is so much better but they work great when they are daisy chained together. Fun to listen to my playlists in bedroom when I go in there to do something. So now I have music in stereo. Love them both. But the Echo is my favorite.

The Amazing Echo

The Amazon Echo has been an amazing and also somewhat frustrating experience. The convenience it brings with timers, turning on connected lights, playing music, and just corny jokes is amazing. I love this machine but it also does become a little frustrating when it doesn't work immediately. In the time I've had it, it has mostly worked on the first try but there are definitely days when the lights won't all turn on when asked. Sometimes it takes a long time for Alexa to respond to the commands (Could be an internet issue, but still detracts from the experience). All in all, it is an awesome device and I have enjoyed it immensely.

Really cool looking in person. Purchased this and 3 other Echo Dots to work together. It definitely can hear you from a distance. It operates my LIFX lights but doesn't change the colors if I ask it to. It doesn't work well with Pandora to pick stations so not sure how to get it to do that. It only remembers the last station that I was playing. Lots of home automation integration. Being able to set my alarm just by talking is better than a clock next to the bed. Overall lots of great features. Takes time to learn what it can do overall. This one is the Best if you want a louder speaker than the Echo Dot and it actually looks cool too.

I wouldn’t have purchased this myself but my wife got this for my Birthday. I love it! I use it mainly for music, news and weather but resently expanded my use to include kitchen timer and basic “googling”. Just bought a Dot for my office. Great addition to my lifestyle!

Smart Enough, I Guess

Amazon Echo is a smart home device, but it's not quite as smart as Google Home. It also doesn't integrate with your smartphone as anything more than a mediocre bluetooth speaker. I don't care about ordering products from Amazon using my voice, and I wish Alexa would answer my more obscure questions like Google does.
Where the Echo shines right now though is with smart home integration. I use the Echo to control my Philips Hue lights and control all of my home theater devices through my Harmony Hub (and soon, full control over my Dish Hopper through a Dish/Amazon partnership). It's a bit more expensive than I would have liked, and I ended up adding an Echo Dot to the other room, so I didn't have to yell for Alexa to hear me.
In hindsight, if you don't need a mediocre bluetooth speaker, get the Echo Dot instead (which you can hook to speakers of your own choice).

Expanding my Echo Family

I already have an Echo in the kitchen (which I love) and purchased the Echo dot for the family room to pair it via Bluetooth with a hybrid tube amp, primarily for listening to music through Prime. If you have a home audio set up and prime, and can do with the limitations associated with Prime music, the Echo dot is the way to go. It is fantastic, from an ease of use standpoint (and sound quality from the amp). Setting up multiple Echos is very simple, as is managing them through the Alexa app; and once you teach Alexa a new skill (via additional apps) the skills are applied across all Alexa devices in the home.

But for its size, this thing ROCKS! The acoustics are amazing for its size, sound that you'd expect from a small soda can sized Bose speaker would sound. You cant expect a ton of bass, when the speaker inside is barley 2-3 inches, but sounds AMAZING FOR ITS SIZE!

Had purchased one of these for my family for Christmas and they absolutely loved it. Bought the Echo Dot for a co-worker and they wouldn't stop talking about it. Decided to buy my wife this for her birthday and all I can say is Wow! Super easy to set up, a blast to use, and connects to all sorts of connected home devices like light switches and wifi router. Plays Jeopardy and reads you the news in the morning along with playing music on command. Love setting alarms, reminders, adding to a shopping list, and making purchases on Amazon by voice. Definitely buy this if you want to make your home so much dinner!

When Amazon first released this, I couldn't rationalize spending the money to purchase something that could play music, answer questions, report traffic and weather, etc. I did a lot of research before looking into purchasing one because I wanted to start converting my home into a Smart Home. I purchased this along with the Philips Hue and so far, I haven't regretted the purchase. Using the Apps to control the lighting is great but when you can simply use voice commands, it makes it that much more convenient. I would recommend this or any of the other "echo" products if you're looking to convert to a Smart Home.

This product is pretty spectacular when you have things to pair with it. I personally have HUE lights in several rooms in my house and the Echo pairs seamlessly with the HUE device, making controlling the lights via voice simple. The only touchy part with that is terminology you say to get the lights to turn on and off.
I have only had my Echo for 2 weeks, so I am not an advanced Echo user by any means. However, this product seems to have endless capabilities and only developing more daily.
My only problem came when trying to keep my Echo paired with my DISH box so I can control my TV with my voice. This feature seems to lose connectivity easily and has proven to be slightly difficult to re-pair after the initial pairing of the two devices. Other then that, the Echo has been a great addition to my home, and very user friendly.

I love it and I'm I'm not using even a quarter of Alexa's capabilities. The thing that I love the most so far is the shopping list feature. If I take something out of the fridge that I need to restock I just ask Alexa to add it to my shopping list then its on my phone when I go to the store! no stopping in the middle of a recipe to find my phone to add the item. Also works great with Pandora radio. If a song that I don't know is playing and I want to know the name and artist I can either ask Alexa or look at the app on my phone. Looking forward to learning more about what she can do.

I primarily use my Amazon Echo for timers, alarms, checking the weather, and listening to audiobooks from Audible. I know it has a lot of other features, but these are the ones that seem convenient and useful to me. The voice recognition isn't quite as good as Google's, but it works pretty well.
Just don't put it next to a TV, or it will activate all the time.

I'm not sure this device would have gotten much use if I didn't have any home automation devices. It is very continent to ask Alexa to turn off certain lights, set my thermostat to a certain temp and trigger events through IFTTT. I really don't use any of the other features like creating lists or scheduling events, but I do use the timer function while I am in the kitchen.
The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 -
Other devices cannot utilize my Echo's speaker, I would like for SmartThings to be able to integrate with my echo to announce when someone walks through a main entry door, or if my garage door opens, which I know other Wi-Fi connected speakers are capable of doing.
Echo to Echo connectivity would also be a nice feature, being able to say "Play music in all rooms" or while standing in the kitchen "Play music in the living room"
