The Echo (4th Gen) completely upgraded my smart home experience. The sound quality is surprisingly rich and deep for its size—perfect for music, audiobooks, and podcasts. The built-in smart home hub seamlessly connected to my lights and plugs, making voice control super convenient.
Alexa is more responsive than ever, and the setup took less than five minutes. I also appreciate the modern spherical design—it blends in well with my room decor. For $99, it’s well worth it if you’re looking to enhance both audio and automation in your home. Highly recommended!

Pros: 1) very good sound; 2) Easy setup; 3) the only reason I bought this was using it as my Ring lights' hub. 4) Beautiful color
Cons: A little expensive

Wow. I’ve had plenty of smart home voice assist products. I went to the store and saw this item as part of a black friday deal. Honestly, at first I wasnt impressed by looking at in store but couldnt walk away from the price. I grabbed one, and kid you not after one hour- I rushed back to best buy and purchased two more, including the kids edition. My family enjoys it. The echo blew me away, the speakers are pretty loud, it puts my soundbar to shame. Alexa is speedy with demands or questions. My kids are enjoying it more than myself. I also was able to score the bluetooth smart bulb as part of a bundle, connection and setup were easy. Im enjoying the colors, really gives a fun vibe to the bedroom. I also love that you can use them as intercoms , perfect for when the kids are noisey in their playroom. Buy it!!!!!!

Got this on a good sale so I felt compelled to upgrade from a Gen 2 Echo. It immediately does feel faster and the design I prefer to the cannister look. The sounds is worlds better. I dont use it combo'd in a speaker system or its eero extension capabilities but it does have those features as well. If you are in the Amazon eco system and at all want better sound, speed or even just prefer its appearance.... Its a solid upgrade especially when its on sale. I highly recommend.

I bought this 4th gen echo with built in hub for myself for my room previously buying the 3rd gen for granddaughters room and dot for kitchen. I love the round look of this new one and looks great with my decor. some reviews said huge but I don’t think so and have no problems when speaking to, saying because I saw in other reviews that alexa wouldn’t respond and had to keep repeating. I can whisper and responds every time. Comparing the two tho I don’t see alot of difference in sound, maybe a little more bass but both are very good, crisp clear sound. Very satisfied and recommend. Now have one in almost every room and can connect to hear music all over house or talk to someone in another room if I don’t want to yell. Nice.

I also have a 5th generation Echo Dot, which I have liked for many months. Streaming music to the Dot was very satisfactory, especially considering its size. One of the Dot's pluses is its digital display, for time and temperature etc. I had been curious about the Echo 4th gen for quite a while, reading many YouTube and user reviews. I decided to order a black Echo 4th gen, although I had been waiting to see if there was an Echo 5th gen, hoping it might have a digital display, like the Dot's. No new Echo 5th generation was announced. The Echo 4th gen never ceases to amaze me! I have two costly audio systems in my office for serious listening times. I have to admit that, although the Echo 4th gen really doesn't match the other audio systems, it certainly more than satisfies for casual listening. I find myself turning to the Echo 4 more often than my other systems as audio quality is VERY good, great bass as compared to the Dot and definitely more room filling sound, without the hassles of needing to turn multiple pieces of equipment on, to listen. No clock but I bought a big round 14" clock to hang above my computer monitor, which I really enjoy! The Echo 4th gen is definitely a winner and I can't underestimate all the things it can do! A great purchase!

I have been a user of the Alexa devices for years and I decided to upgrade the one in my living room and was surprised by the difference. The sound quality is noticeably different and far superior. Also, this is cuter than the old tower style. I definitely recommend.

I was surprised how something so small could sound that good. The bass is surprisingly deep and you can feel the beat. I have a first gen echo in my living room and a dot in my bedroom. The sound from the dot ìs too tinny for my taste so when a 4th gen echo went on sale i decided to buy it. Glad I did because not only is the sound way better but the device seems faster and smarter. The setup was fast, easy and flawless. If you can buy one do it, you won't be sorry.

I started using smart home assistants quite a few years ago just as they were becoming popular. Ive used Google and Amazon Alexa the most (making Alexa the main one now) but also have Apple's system on the Apple TV 4K, and phone.
One thing I had really hoped to be able to do with these assistants is find ways for them bot be more useful to the disabled and those who may not always have another person right there who can help them. I know there are a lot of fun things that can be done too, and there are conveniences as well. However, there is also potential if used correctly to help those who have extra needs as well. I really haven't seen amazon doing much in this way for a while, and I really can't test the way I'd like to because of renting vs owning a place. With that said, I would pick Alexa to start with, just because of it's integration with things. Google seems to have pulled out somewhat, and a lot of the extras it used to do, don't seem to work anymore such as skills and add-ons, etc.
Apple, is still limited in comparison as well. I mainly purchased this Echo as it was to replace one which failed.
Overall I've been happy with the Alexa system.
Nowadays, I mainly use Alexa for smart light and device control, kitchen timers, listening to music. Also have a guitar tuner skill installed, and a few other things. I do have an Echo Flex in the Bathroom as well for the nightlight and in case of a fall I could ask Alexa to call for help.
I would recommend Any smart assistant for anyone who has special needs, or otherwise could benefit. Just because there are those who want to use AI to harm people there are also those who I feel it would benefit if used correctly and for the right reasons.
One other thing I wanted to mention, the Alexa app used to set up these devices is pretty easy to use and it's available for the main platforms of mobile devices.

Great entry level to Smart Home Ecosystem

The Echo Dot 4th Gen is a great entry point into the smart home ecosystem. The new spherical design is an attractive update from previous models, with the light ring now subtly glowing from the base.
For sound quality, the directional output is noticeably clearer and crisper at low and moderate volumes, making it perfect for casual listening and podcasts. However, buyers should be aware that pushing the volume high (past 70%) can introduce distortion and limit the bass.
The Alexa/Smart Features remain best-in-class, providing instant voice control for music streaming (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.), setting alarms, getting news, and—most importantly—seamlessly controlling compatible smart home devices like lights and thermostats. It's a highly functional device at an affordable price.
