Finally a decent replacement for Wink

When Wink decided to change from free to subscription based, I was forced to look for a replacement. Samsung SmartThings worked for a while, but with their "improvements" I lost control of my GE Link smart bulbs, which got me into Wink in the first place. The smart home hub works well controlling these bulbs now. It also works with the Wink Fan I had gotten, however it only controls the light, which is the most important part of home automation. I can still use the remote to control the fan.
I had used Echo exclusively with wink before they went subscription only. The Echo works as well as my older Echo devices, and the sound is much better than my Echo Dots.
I still need my SmartThings to control Z-Wave devices, but now I have a much better alternative for my Zigbee devices.

Love this thing. It has the best sound for the price; connects easily, looks great, functions as you would expect, and sounds much better than you would expect out of a small speaker.

I’ve owned every Echo since the first gen, and the 4th Gen with premium sound is on another level. The audio is shockingly good for its size – deep bass, clear mids, and it easily fills my 25 m² living room with music (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music HD all sound fantastic). Compared to my old Echo Dot, this thing is night and day.
Alexa is faster and smarter than ever: turns on lights, controls my TV, checks the weather, sets timers while I cook… everything just works. The built-in Zigbee hub means I didn’t need an extra dongle for my Philips Hue and IKEA bulbs. Privacy mic-off button + the fact it processes most commands locally now gives me peace of mind.
I use it daily for music, alarms, routines, and even as a cheap intercom between rooms. At this price it’s an absolute steal. If you’re still on 2nd/3rd gen or a Dot, upgrade – you won’t believe the difference in sound quality.
100% recommended. Already bought a second one for the bedroom. Thanks Amazon!

Smart Assistants can be used for good

I started using smart home assistants quite a few years ago just as they were becoming popular. Ive used Google and Amazon Alexa the most (making Alexa the main one now) but also have Apple's system on the Apple TV 4K, and phone.
One thing I had really hoped to be able to do with these assistants is find ways for them bot be more useful to the disabled and those who may not always have another person right there who can help them. I know there are a lot of fun things that can be done too, and there are conveniences as well. However, there is also potential if used correctly to help those who have extra needs as well. I really haven't seen amazon doing much in this way for a while, and I really can't test the way I'd like to because of renting vs owning a place. With that said, I would pick Alexa to start with, just because of it's integration with things. Google seems to have pulled out somewhat, and a lot of the extras it used to do, don't seem to work anymore such as skills and add-ons, etc.
Apple, is still limited in comparison as well. I mainly purchased this Echo as it was to replace one which failed.
Overall I've been happy with the Alexa system.
Nowadays, I mainly use Alexa for smart light and device control, kitchen timers, listening to music. Also have a guitar tuner skill installed, and a few other things. I do have an Echo Flex in the Bathroom as well for the nightlight and in case of a fall I could ask Alexa to call for help.
I would recommend Any smart assistant for anyone who has special needs, or otherwise could benefit. Just because there are those who want to use AI to harm people there are also those who I feel it would benefit if used correctly and for the right reasons.
One other thing I wanted to mention, the Alexa app used to set up these devices is pretty easy to use and it's available for the main platforms of mobile devices.

My 1st gen echo lasted about 4 years and was kind of hesitant about buying the new echo. I really liked the sleek design of the 1st gen as it was easy to place in a small space in my home. Upon getting the 4th gen. I was impressed that it did not taoe up a lot of space and the sound is amazing! Its easy to set up and use. I highly recommend this product!

Bought for my mother so she can play audible books since she is unable to read books due to a sight degeneration. This was chosen over the dot due to the volume and clarity that it has. It is very responsive, easy to set up and aesthetically appealing

The microphone on this thing is awful.. Constantly confuses me with being a guy, and misses key words if there is noise in the same room.. Besides that... I love this thing!! The sound quality is wonderful (I'm quite a sound quality snob) and the design is fun :) Love this gorgeous blue color!

Exceptional sound coming from such a small speaker. Amazed it connected to our ring doorbell. Now we can have it announce that someone is at the door. Very easy to pair to all our devices. IOS, Windows, Intel, etc.
The only thing you need to be aware of is you have to download load an app to set it up. Use the Amazon Echo app. The other apps are not free, even if they say they are. We learned the hard way and had multiple unauthorized charges on our card.
The app that Amazon provides is free and doesn’t ask for any credit or debit card information. So if you download load an app that asks for your credit or debit card, DELETE it.
I would rather this product very good to excellent.

This is a good size speaker, much larger than the lower end dot. Better sound as well. Easy to setup and stream music, answer questions. Question of the day is always fun. Very good price for the quality and what it does.

Really great sound compared to the other Echo Dots. Our use of this specific Echo Dot was to play low level relaxation/meditation music in our Massage chair room. It works wonderfully for that purpose prose but we’ve also tied it into our whole house “Everywhere” group so that it can play whatever we are listen while cleaning or having guests. Really decent treble and a substantial amount of base for a little speaker. Definitely worth the extra money to get the sound that you get from this. Paired with another speaker like itself and an Echo sub it might just be your go to speakers for your entertainment area.

Bought two on sale for Stereo sound

I bought two of these on sale for almost fifty percent off and am more than pleased with the Stereo sound (after pairing them in the Alexa app). My only gripe is software related (which may be fixed in an update) in which switching from music to news and then back to music - the two channel Stereo mode ends and I have to restart to get back into Stereo mode. Two speakers in Stereo have more bass than I had expected and I’m glad I didnt spend more money on a subwoofer

A friend insisted that I buy this saying that I would love it. I do indeed love it and have recommended it to friends. I actually bought a small version to keep buy my bedside. I ask it to play Vaugh Williams "The Lark Ascending" which puts me to sleep each night. I love the “repeat” feature,it keeps playing “The Lark Ascending through the night. If this broke down I would immediatedly buy a replacement, I do not want to live without a smart speaker.

The sound quality is phenomenal! I like the Echo because it has a built-in smart home hub so I can connect my smart devices to the nearest Echo. We now have 2 Echos, 1 Studio and a Samsung SmartThings hub all handling each of about 30+ smart devices. Get it when it's on sale and it's a great value, even if you just use it as a speaker.

Not ony does the Echo 4th Gen with premium sound have excellent audio quality, it also has a very stylish design. When I first took it out of the package and held it in my hands, I was impressed by its weight. I knew its heft was signalling the amount of magnets it had driving the various speakers. When I powered it up I enjoyed not only the crisp highnotes, but also the rich full sounding bass notes. We have two rooms that kind of sprawl together over the first floor of our house. I've now connected this speaker with two other Echo speakers into one group. Taken together the three speakers fill our first floor with rich sound. The other speakers, an Echo Plus and an Echo Show also have good audio quality, but I give the edge to the Echo 4th Gen with premium sound as the best of the lot.
