I love this Echo Auto. It has a nice sleek look and very easy to set up. It listens to me very well. I got a great deal on it at Best Buy. I would recommend to anyone who is thinking of buying one.

A good product for an older car

The Amazon-Echo Auto is a good product; works well, is easy to set up, integrates with the car stereo easy enough, but it has a major flaw for newer cars. In our year old new Infiniti Q70s, the Echo Auto was a breeze to set up and find a home for in the interior. However, to use it you have to have the stereo on the Bluetooth mode, or else the device won't connect. You can listen to FM radio and then switch over to the Bluetooth mode when you want to use the Echo Auto, but you have to press buttons to do it. And that's the major flaw with a newer car, you have to press buttons to use it, when it's supposed to be a handsfree solution to accessing the power of Alexa in the car. By contract, when I want to play music off my phone before hooking up the Echo Auto, for instance, I would have to either press the button on the steering wheel and speak to the stereo, or I could go to Bluetooth mode, then press the button on my iphone to access Siri to do it. So I'm really just exchanging one button press for another. However, in an older car this thing would probably work well. We have a Miata that is about 10 years old and should have worked well for this, but because of the aftermarket exhaust, it couldn't adequately hear me talking to her. So another problem stood in its way. I ended up returning the device. It was fun experiment to try the Echo Auto, but in the end not a good fit for either of our cars.

Good for what it is, but redundant for many

This is one of the odder reviews I will have ever written. I waffled back and forth on what star rating to give this device. The problem is that it is well built, but for most people it is redundant. THE GOOD: The microphones on the device work very well, assuming that you point them into the vehicle cabin. Most Alexa functions work without having to open the app on your phone. THE REDUNDANT: There are two things that make this device redundant. The first is that most recent vehicles support Apple Carplay or Android Auto. Even if they don't support those two technologies, most of the time they do support bluetooth pairing with your phone giving you a way to activate whatever voice assistant your phone uses by touching a button on the stearing wheel. And finally, even if your car stereo doesn't support bluetooth pairing you can still call a voice assistant by setting your phone to be operated hands free. If you specifically want Alexa you just download the Alexa app and open it when you get in your car. THE BAD: The only bad is that it is redundant for recent vehicles. I do see a possible use for this device. If you have an older vehicle that did not come with a bluetooth enabled stereo system, this would be a very useful device. The microphone quality will likely be superior to aftermarket cabin mics or bluetooth phone interfaces. For that reason, I am keeping this for a future used vehicle.

I know you can say 'Hey Google' or something like that, but the advantage of the Echo Auto is the far field microphone array. You can have the volume up and she usually hears you over the radio and road noise. I drive a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 and have a JVC-HDR1 which can overcome most issues, and Alexa usually hears me. You can set the Maps to either Google (Apple Maps if you have an iphone) and Waze. Once you say 'Alexa, I would like directions to...' and she opens the map and plots the course. You can ask her for directions to the nearest Grocery Store or Gas station. You can also ask her to play your favorite radio station (I ask 'Alexa play KOSF radio' and she loads up a station from across the country and plays my favorite 80's channel. You can ask her to phone a person in your contact list or ask her for directions using gas buddy to the lowest price gas station nearby. I love my 2 echo autos (1 for each car). Each echo should allow up to 6 phones, however, I only have 2 configured in one car and that's all I can really say work since I haven't tested more. My older vehicle doesn't have a stereo with built in Bluetooth, but I have a bluetooth to fm transmitter and I have no reason to use my FM Tuner anymore. Sometimes, I have to repeat myself and asking for directions to my dad's house is nearly impossible. He lives at an address like 6 7th street and she has massive problems with that.

I got this on sale for $19 so I wasn’t really expecting a whole lot...having Alexa products in my apt I knew what it could do so I thought why not have it in my car...once connected it’ll suggest to tap on screen to open app on phone or just drive as normal,it’ll still respond to you but not as good as if the app is on...in my case if app is activated at startup Alexa is in control...I ask n it does almost everything...activate Waze, play Spotify,iHeartRadio, pandora n hands free calling...n most of all it runs ur home stuff to like turn lights on/off...I liked it so much I got my family each 1...if u have Alexa products u will definitely like this...

The Echo Auto is an amazing device to have. You see I have an 08 MB R350. If you anything about MB you know adding any extra features is $$$$. With the Echo Auto I don’t have to order or upgrade anything for my car. You can plug it in the the Aux port and have instant Bluetooth. Not just any kind of Bluetooth but Bluetooth with ALEXA!!! The Bluetooth adapter for my car is 299,00 to put in another radio that will match the MB luxury would be around 700 and up. This cost me 34.99 plus tax didn’t have to swap my radio, or buy any adapters because everything you need is in the box. The audio is crystal clear, and there is no lag when watching videos I repeat NO LAG!!!! Thank God! There’s nothing worse than watching a video and the Audio doesn’t match up. You can watch YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, you name it and it will play through this device. Phone calls you can answer hands free by just saying “ Alexa pick up phone “ you can turn on your lights at home if you have those, set reminders, make a shopping list, basically just about whatever you need to do you can. I have the Echo Show, Echo 2nd Gen, and I can drop in at home right from my car. Anyway enough rambling you should pick one up and give it a try. Even if you have Bluetooth already in your car this will be a great addition. You won’t even barely have to touch your phone while driving around. Oh I also drive rideshare. You can let your clients have a bit of fun with it too. Go on... give it a try.... No disappointments here for sure.

It’s great if you have an aux port but no Bluetooth. It’s like the sweet medium. I got it for $20 on sale and at that price it’s good but anything more I’m not too sure it’s worth it. But it definitely works well with commands and connects to your phone fast. I got this so I can have Bluetooth music to charge my phone if I wanted to and it does just that. The sound quality is good too!

Perfectly text exactly what and who with no problem, does everything Alexa does at home but when I tell Alexa to make a phone call, she says I'm already on a call, and when I tell her to play my music from Spotify, she only plays Amazon Music library, but overall still satisfied, I would recommend, if privacy is an issue you might want to pass, as you have to keep your Location on your phone on while your in the car , just an FYI.

I love my Echo Auto! This has made my travels all the better. I can make phone calls, change music, make lists, turn on my lights when I drive into my driveway or turn off the lights when I leave, all without searching for buttons or swiping at apps. I highly suggest anyone who drives a vehicle to purchase an Echo Auto. My travel routines has improved and now I can't imagine my life without it.
