Alexa is easy to set up right out of the box. She does require internet but once that is connected she is good to go. Alexa does great things by herself but the more devices you hook up to her the better she gets.

I ended up getting both this and the Google Home Mini during black friday 2017 and tested both extensively. Though I ended up going with Google, it does not take away that this was a great product. The echo has more skills currently available, allows quick shopping via Amazon and sounds and works quite well, about par with the Mini in most ways. I went with Google mostly because I do not currently have a smart home witch the Echo is currently better at, nor do I buy on Amazon enough to need that feature. Google was able to answer my questions a bit better, and works with my Chromecast and other devices, ergo my end choice. I would recommend the Echo to anyone that sides on the services it provides over what the Google unit does. Note that both devices did have one snag, though the Echo seemed to have a bit more sensitivity to it. Occasionally without the command word or provocation, the unit would chime out with something, such as it can't do something, doesn't know, or asks for more information. This may have been triggered from the TV, though I cannot be sure.

Easy to connect and integrate into my existing music system. Choose your favorite powered speakers and you are set. Far more inconspicuous than the larger echo. Bluetooth integration is fantastic. Best $40.00 I've ever spent.

Good for small areas that don’t require much automation or music. Echo dot is not as seamless or responsive as it’s larger counter part. I would skip this one and get the 2nd gen if you aren’t looking to use it a lot for home automation or music. If you are, go ahead and get the Echo Plus.

This item has some cool features but the volume is too low for its price range.

I really do enjoy using my Alexa dot, and plan to buy at least three more. I also bought the TP Link LB 110 dimmable smart bulb, and it works fantastically with Alexa. Shipment was fast. I give the Alexa dot five stars.+++++

Does everything I expected and much more. Turn lights on and off with smart plug (not included). Connects easily with wireless speaker via Bluetooth. Great for listening to music. Wonderful entertainment for the entire family!

The Amazon Echo Dot is a fantastic piece of electronics.

Great product, has all the same features that a regular size echo has but over half the price! Because it's cheaper, don't expect it to have the same sound quality as it's bigger brothers. It fits my needs in a smaller room.

the Echo Dot works like you'd think. You ask Alexa to do something and she tries. The microphone is good. The speaker is OK but not great. It's a little soft in a loud room. It has an audio out and bluetooth if you want to connect it to a better speaker. As an additional Alexa device, you can't beat the price.
