Customers are saying
Customers have good things to say about the Echo Dot (2nd generation)'s ease of use, sound quality, and small size, frequently praising its affordability and Bluetooth connectivity. While some users found the setup a bit challenging and noted occasional issues with Alexa's responsiveness or volume, the positive feedback on its core features outweighs these concerns. Great deal on an amazing product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am blown away how wonderful this product is. It is impressive how well it picks up voice commands and how clear it sounds. It connects well with Bluetooth for bigger speakers. Easy to use and setup.

Really Fun and Useful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my second Echo Dot purchased, and it was to be used in my office to compliment the Echo in the living room. Here is something that I DIDN'T know... they have a built-in speaker! Maybe it is listed somewhere, but they always said you had to pair it with a bluetooth speaker (or plug it in with an aux cable), so I used one of the many small bluetooth speakers in the house to pair it to, but the speaker died one day and Alexa kept talking through her built-in speaker! It isn't a Bose-class speaker, but for a small room it is perfectly fine. Maybe not a big deal to some, but I was pleasantly surprised, and not having to find another plug for the speaker is nice. It is easy to use, and even my tech-averse girlfriend has come to rely on it. When the first one showed up and I demonstrated it for her, she was not impressed, but as more skills became apparent (such as the timer, and adding things to a grocery list), she used it more. And once I hooked my Harmony remote system and SmartThings hub into it, she has almost forgotten how to use the remote control and light switches! I have a Harmony Remote hub and my Samsung SmartThings hub skills enabled with Alexa, and they work perfectly. Now, the cons... Sometimes Alexa gets a little weird. If the Amazon Cloud Service suffers a problem, then Alexa won't really work for most things since that is where she lives. Sometimes she hears something on the TV and starts doing some random skill, like playing classical music. And I'm PRETTY sure nobody on the TV said Alexa at that time. Sometimes she just quits working and the only thing to do is reboot her. But these have been rare occurrences, and the good FAR outweighs the bad. I will say that if you are paranoid, or a bad guy (or girl), then you may want to pass on something that can conceivably be a microphone in your home that is always on. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Echo Dot.

Love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Echo dot, bought for my mother. So easy to use and set up. Great as an assistant, can be as simple or advanced as you care to make it. The speaker is better than the reviews say also.

Love It
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an original Alexa Echo already. This device makes a great add on (though you can use it by itself). Use it for everything from asking about the weather to turning on lights to playing music.

I love my Amazon Echo Dot
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was a tough decision between the Amazon dot and the Google mini because they are both really good products, but the features of the Amazon Dot were more beneficial to me than the Google mini was. I use mine daily for setting alarms, checking the weather, fact finding, reminder lists, grocery lists, etc. Listening to music,on the dot is not what I call bad, but if you're looking for a higher quality sound you can connect it to a speaker with an audio cord. Or upgrade to the larger echo or echo plus for a sweeter sound quality. Overall though this was only $30 compared to $80 and $120 respectively for the other two models. Personally it does what I need and want from such a small device.

GREAT product

I truly love my Amazon Dots.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received 5 Amazon Dots for Christmas. Placing one in each of the 3 bedrooms, one in the kitchen and one in the family room. I use them to set my daily alarms, give me the time, news briefings, add to my shopping list, to do list, listen to music, tell bedtime stories to my grands, turn my lights on/off using my voice or when I am away from home by my cell phone, add to my calendar, spell words and other etc things I don't know. Life is much easier with my dots. Thank you Amazon!

Hardware is great; software needs work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The build quality is great and considering the size and cost, the sound is acceptable. The Alexa software, however, still needs a lot of work. Voice prompts are often not recognized, or have to be said in such an unnatural way that one has to memorize phrases instead of speaking in a natural or common-sense way. For example if I ask Alexa to play recently added music, it will not work, but if I say play new music, then I will hear my recently added music. Another problem is that the software will recognize normal conversation, other words and phrases not including the Alexa prompt, as an unsolicited request. I can't have the device near a TV, as it is also incidentally activated, which is annoying. Another annoying example, if I have a notification, wouldn't you think saying "delete my notifications" would do just that? Nope. I have to ask it to play the notification and sit through the message or ask it to stop playing. There's a lot of instances like this that occur all the time.

Affordable Alexa
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The dot is a great value for the price. It's currently on sale for $29 and this is a steal considering all that it does. This version works great with your favorite bluetooth or AUX speaker. A+++

Very cool to use with Smart Home accessories!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have 3 of these in our house to control many Wemo lights and switches, and 2 Nest thermostats. Before the Echo Dots, when walking into a Wemo-controlled room we would need to have our phones with us to turn on the lights--and we would have to wait while they connected with the app, so that we could then turn on the lights. With the Echo Dots we can turn them on with a simple (and quick), verbal command. The two Nest thermostats in our house are easy to control as well, and should save us some energy costs by allowing us to more easily turn down the thermostats in those areas of the house we don't plan to use for a while. Echo Dots have really made controlling these devices easy!

Better than expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When trying to decide whether to get Echo or Echo dot, the biggest difference I kept coming across is that this can play music when connected to a speaker of some sort with the implication being that it can't do so buy itself. The reality is that it can play music just fine by itself. I'm sure you'd find some audiophile who would complain about the sound quality but if you're looking for a cheap option to run a connected home and occasionally play music, this will do just fine. The speaker quality isn't going to trick you into thinking your at a concert, but it's at least as good as the built in speakers on a tablet or smart phone (and quite a bit louder so you can actually hear it).

Love This!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lil thing is great, i am coming from a google home so i actually have something to compare it to. No to talk about the elephant in the room right off the bat, the speaker is DECENT. I actually dont mind playing music through it while i am just lounging around but make no mistake this can not compare to a BT speaker like the UE Booms or even Google homes speaker (Which is better). But i feel, after watching several reviews, the fact the alexa is constantly growing in skills puts this a step above something like the google Home. Google's assistant definitely works better with the ability to do follow up questions. But the alexa is no slouch and handles basics tasks like reminders and timers/weather/traffic questions quite well. Overall, the price is what did it for me, 50 bucks compared to 130. And i can also hook the echo dot up to a bigger speaker. Save some money and buy this lil thing!!

Great addition to your automated home
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started to automate my house and have 5 echo devices throughout my home. I connected one of the echo dots to my sound system and play my spotify from there. For $29, it is an excellent buy.

Easy setup, works great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am satisfied with this Echo Dot - the setup was very easy including getting it to operate my Philips Hue lamps. I would give it 5 stars except I later purchased a taller Echo device - and the Echo has much better sound output for music. The Dot fits in easy and operates very well.

Neat little gadget
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to set up gadget that paired well with my Harmony Hub remote to voice control my entertainment system. Would be better if you could easily set it up to output music to external speaker while keeping Alexa's voice (for news/weather/etc) coming from the Echo Dot's internal speaker.

Just as good as the original echo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These were suggested to be complemented with external speakers. I have a few of these and they're all in bedrooms and none of them are plugged into external speakers and the volume works great. I have the original echo in a larger living room. The max volume of the echo dot certainly isn't as strong as the original but it's not lacking and it's more than enough in a bedroom. I have them all connected to smart home devices and a spotify account and they all work great.

Echo Dot Simplifies Life
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best present I ever bought myself .The shopping list skill alone makes this worth the purchase. When something comes to mind that I need to buy, or simply something i need to remember to do. I just tell Alexa, and it goes straight to the app on my cell. I link to my Bluetooth stereo when I'm working around the house and I have an all day broadcast from any of several music sources. Real time weather and traffic reports before my commute to the city. Hands free communications to friends. I've barely had it two weeks, and its paid for itself 20 times. I'd have one in my work office, if it weren't prohibited. So I guess its safe to say I'm satisfied with the purchase.
