Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Echo Dot (2nd generation)'s ease of use, sound quality, and small size, frequently praising its affordability and Bluetooth connectivity. While some users found the setup a bit challenging and noted occasional issues with Alexa's responsiveness or volume, the positive feedback on its core features outweighs these concerns. Many appreciate its use as an alarm clock and its integration with smart home devices.

I'm so pleased with this purchase. It's so easy to activate and using it is a no brainier. Basically plug and PLAYYYY. If you don't have Amazon music, no problem, use your Pandora. Need to turn on some lights, with the adapter, no problem. Just tell Alexa to turn on the lights. Got a question, just ask, easy peasy. I'll learn more as time goes on, it's very simple. If I can so can you. Give it a shot and you'll love it too.

We love our Amazon Echo so purchased one as a gift for my mother-in-law. She was nervous at first that she wouldn't be able to figure out how to use it, but there is nothing to figure out! My husband easily set it up for her and now she has it to play music, check the weather, and even tell her jokes! She uses it as an alarm so she doesn't forget things, too! Such a great purchase, and at a good price!

Dot - A Useful and Enjoyable Device

The Echo Dot does everything that the Echo does except high-volume sound. It was a snap to install once you download the Amazon Alexa App. The sound from the Dot is adequate for many uses in a small-to-medium-sized room. If you what high quality sound so that music can be heard and enjoyed over a good portion of your home, you will need to pair the Dot with a Bluetooth or wired speaker. I am using a Sony RSR-XB10 Bluetooth speaker that I bought on sale at Best Buy. If you need to buy such a speaker, the price of the Dot + speaker could exceed the cost of an Echo. There is an advantage to using a separate Bluetooth speaker in that you can move it around your house while the Dot stays stationary. Neither the Dot nor the Echo have a battery so that they must be plugged into an electrical outlet. The Echo Dot works very well with my secured WiFi home network and my relatively inexpensive (but new 2017 version) smartphone. The only draw back that both the Echo Dot and the Echo have is that you are somewhat limited in the music that you can play without subscribing to Amazon Prime, Spotify or some other service. You can listen to music "samples" from Amazon, but not from Spotify unless you purchase the Spotify Premium package. Music that you have purchased from Amazon during the past year or so (even if they were on CDs) are available to play on the Dot just by asking Alexa to play your selection from "Amazon Music." As yet, I have not found a way as yet to load my computer's music library that have files from music, purchased in past years from Amazon as well as other sources, into a place where Alexa could have access. This limitation may be due to legal issues. The other shortcoming is the audio quality of some of the free apps that are available. If you own or buy either the Echo or the Echo Dot, be sure to read reviews of apps before you install them using the Alexa App. All in all, the Echo Dot is worth the $29.95 that paid for it and I would give it a 4.5/5.0, and recommend that you buy one for your home if you can envision current uses, such as listening to news reports, music and a variety of podcasts, asking Alexa to look things up in Wikipedia for you, or have Alexa tell you corny jokes and words of inspiration or for future uses, such as controlling the lights (smart bulbs), alarms, smart thermostat, etc.

This is a very nice product. I added an external speaker that I connected to the AUX port for music playback. Yes, there are some commands that you have to be specific with for Alexa to perform them... like "Alexa, play SiriusXM channel 33" etc... but, so far I have not had any issues. I was able to pair my Sirius XM, iHeart Radio and Pandora apps with no problems. Local weather, Flash update,, all work great. I also ordered an Echo Plus for the bedroom. There are hundreds of "skills" that you can teach your Echo as well.

3rd Echo Dot to go with my other two Echo DOTS. Thought I would like a white one for different decore. They all work good together. So far they all work together well. They are easy to Ser up and convenient to set up and answers most questions and controls my Hues lights when I'm on vacation. I use for morning alarms and as a timer. Use it for music to sleep by.

I bought the Echo first because of the sound quality. Then I bought the Dot for my bedroom. This works great! Voice sound quality is excellent. If I want better sound for music, it can connect to a blue tooth item or directly with a cable. It's small and it fits anywhere in the room. Happy with the product and happy with Best Buy. It is my " Adult Toy Store "

Love the echo dot, use it to tell me traffic times, the weather, set alarms and timers, integrate with other echo dots and echos to have an intercom system. I've used the drop in skill and it's great, kid in the kitchen and you have a dot there, call them/drop in on them. I've also intergrated it with my Sonos speakers, amazing sound and music. A must buy!

I have 2 of these is the house. They are handy for a lot of things. I can have it play music, set timers, control the tv through my remote, control lights through switches and when I get board there are games to play. If you have a Bluetooth sound system or speaker this is all you need. The only advantage the regular echo has is the bigger built in speaker.

I was reluctant to purchase the echo as I didn't see the value in it when I already had nice Bluetooth speakers and figure my phone Bluetooth was enough. That was until they made the echo dot and realized it could give my existing Bluetooth speakers extra features and easier ease of use. Once set up it doesn't require your phone to be in the same area. You can access all of your Spotify music (or whatever we you use) and playing twenty questions is fun. I have it programed to update me with wall street journal, give me a weather up and what the traffic will be like in the morning. You create shopping lists, set timers, set alarms, ask it for ideas for dinner and much more. I was torn between getting this and the Google mini, from what I read this seemed to edge the mini with easier ease of use with the home set up (I have not don't that yet). The other thing that sold me was the commitment to be upgraded to better speakers, you can connect to speakers via Bluetooth or cable. The Google mini CAN NOT (at least not yet). The speaker itself sounds great for what it is but won't blow your socks off, this was obviously made as a companion to your speakers. I would recommend it to anyone.

The echo dot is the best price point voice activated music and station for home there is. You can bluetooth music from amazon music and listen to all the songs of any artist, group or solo that you can wish. It even has obscure music and choose songs you may have never heard or versions thereof. It is so easy to use its mind boggling.

Compact in size, and as smart as a larger speaker. Of course the sound quality is not as good as a large speaker, but still best in class at this size. Provides enormous amount of functionalities to be discovered. A great supplement for kitchen or restroom when larger rooms have larger speakers. Meow to it and it will meow back!

Interact with Alexa anywhere in your home with the Amazon Echo Dot voice-controlled device. The compact size is a perfect fit in any room, and the built-in speaker lets you set an alarm or stream music. The Amazon Echo Dot voice-controlled device plugs into your home stereo speakers or connects wirelessly through Bluetooth

I love that the Dot is so small. It sits on my desk next to the computer so I can easily adjust volume via buttons when I don't feel like talking to Alexa. The sound quality from the Dot isn't as good as the Echo, but given it's size and my use of it (talk radio, background music), it is great. The Dot also allows you to connect a Bluetooth speaker or external audio system via 3.5 mm jack to it so you can essentially have whatever audio quality you want. Can't do that with the full sized Echo. The one accessory that I'll be adding is a rechargeable battery pack base so I can move it around the house/office without having to take the power cord. Currently, unplugging and re-plugging causes it to go through the boot up cycle which takes maybe 15 seconds.

    Great controller for home automation

I bought this as a second add-on to my already existing home automation system. if you're considering an Echo Dot, it's been a great addition for my home and family. We use ours daily as a timer for cooking and to use for my daughter measuring her assigned reading time each day. The most useful feature we use is the linked-in app feature for the shopping list, we add items to our grocery shopping list through Alexa and my wife and I are never double buying items or missing items anymore because we are working off the same synced shopping list. The Dot is also a capable bluetooth/app linked speaker for playing music. I've linked my Spotify and Amazon Prime accounts for music playback, but can also use my phone to play music from it. I have my Echo Dots controlling my home automation devices (Nest thermostats, Phillips Hue lights, TP-Link plugs, etc.) so I can run them all on schedules I like or control on demand via commands to my Dot. You can use it for Amazon shopping as well, but I turned this feature off so the kids won't buy things I don't want. In all, this is a great buy for the home.

The amazon echo system is great. It does so much, about the only limitation to it is your own imagination. The echo dot is just a smaller version of the echo. The speaker is of course smaller, but you can pair it to a larger Bluetooth speaker and even plug in a speaker with the 3.5 mm plug if you prefer. So the sound of it is only limited to the system you connect to. The sound that it puts out on it own is good really only for a bedroom. All the other capabilities are the same across all echo devices. Excluding the two with a screen. I actually thing it responds better at times than my echo show does, which is supposed to be the Cadilac of echo devices. So if your not sure how to get started with a voice assistant, than this is the way to get started. Even if you do decide to grow your home automation, this echo dot can still play a big part in the whole system. I love all of my echo devices and the three dots I own play very important parts in the whole system!

Just what I needed in my home. I can get information quickly by voice. Set alarms and timers. Work with my nest and wemo light switches. Hear a news briefing custom made to my tastes. Listen to a book or music while I'm cleaning. There are so many skills to choose from. There is something for everyone. Alexa also tells the funniest jokes. You can also use a skill to have a viscous dog bark at random times while you are out. She can play several games, some for fun some to keep your brain sharp. You can set just about any ambient noice to a sleep timer and drift off to sleep. To many skills to mention. For the price try it!! I did and now have three.

The Amazon ECHO Dot is so small but is big on ability. I now have 2 and love them. Alexa is great and understands commands well. It takes a small learning curve to request in a way Alexa clearly understand but after that you are moving along. Speaker is not bad and decent for music. Since it has a 3.5mm aux Jack and Bluetooth you can use external speakers to really make it shine.

Amazon Echo Dot is a great speaker, not only for your music needs. She also answers questions and completes commands with other smart products. I definitely think it is worth the purchase because it has the same functionality as the standard Echo at a smaller price.

Fun right out of the box. I couldn't download the alexa app on my galaxy tab 4 I guess because my android OS is too old, but luckily I have a Fire 7 which works just fine. Set up was easy. I had it paired with my phone, my stereo, my fire TV stick, my thermostat and some little power outlet adapters and was controlling all of them in less than 30 minutes. My wife and I instantly said we need another for the bedroom so I went online and ordered it while it was still on sale. Superior to the google home mini for external sound connections (3.5 mm and bluetooth). Google wins in general level of knowledge and being able to ask for google search results (ie drive-time to whatever destination). But I can see myself using both based on the strengths of each of them and the integration with their service providers. Now I need to find some fan and light controls for more home automation ...
