Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Echo Dot (2nd generation)'s ease of use, sound quality, and small size, frequently praising its affordability and Bluetooth connectivity. While some users found the setup a bit challenging and noted occasional issues with Alexa's responsiveness or volume, the positive feedback on its core features outweighs these concerns. Many appreciate its use as an alarm clock and its integration with smart home devices.

This little thing is incredible. The only difference between this and the full size echo is just the built in speaker on the echo. That said, you can communicate with the dot just fine and hear it clearly and loudly, but music listening will not sound as good. I’d recommend a separate Bluetooth speaker for that. Very cool for daily tasks like reminders, alarms, weather, news and appointments. If you link up compatible smart devices, then Alexa can control things like your tv, sound bar and game systems and even dim lights and adjust temperature. Very satisfied with purchase!

At first I wasn't too overly anxious to get in to Echo .. but as I heard different people I know talking about their Echo, it started to tweak my interest, now here I am owning 2 Dots, one in great room and of course in my bedroom. So I have now discovered how much fun owning a Dot actually is. You can do just so many things with this, ask questions, news, music, ask and learn like a trivia night! there are just so many apps you can put on the Dot even like the fun but useful Guard Dog! Yes, with dogs realistically barking/growling! It can be used as an educational tool as well. Make phone calls hands free, use to wake you up, listen to relaxing music or sounds to go to sleep.. Go on and read the info online and you will quickly decide you need one, now I'll never be without one.super easy setup .. unbelievable clarity and I boosted the sound as paired to my sound bar in each room and it's like your own private concert whenever you want. The price is easy on the pocket so you don't need a loan to get one or 2; sometimes you can even find specials like buy 2 get 1 free etc! You can connect to your home monitoring system, control lighting in your home, possibly be connected with the Ring Bell system, or assist you with your car info .. I could keep going but I won't so that instead of reading this you will go and get one.

would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a tool that will help them stay organized, entertained, and informed. This product is great for listening to music/audiobooks, making lists, setting alarms, and providing news and weather updates. The Amazon Echo is simple to set up and compatible with a variety of apps on your smartphone.

I'm really big into tech but I have held off on the Alexa craze until this Christmas. I didn't really need or desire anything come Christmas and when the Amazon Alexa came to mind I thought it would be fun to try it so I asked for several dots for Christmas. It has been lots of fun playing around, I have bought and installed some Z Wave GE switches so now I can control my lights, Alexa hooked up to my Bose whole house audio system and has been a great purchase. I used Alexa last night to fall asleep to a thunderstorm sounds.

We have had an Echo Dot for a while and purchased another one for our daughter who is heading out to college next year. Connected to our Amazon Prime account makes ordering very easy...however, be careful what you tell Alexa...she likes to order things for you. ";O_) Add to that the fact that the Dot can control lights and electric outlets and it's a great way to create an environment that is easily controlled with voice commands. Alexa also will converse with you in case you're lonely or just need someone to talk to. ";O_)~

So, I'll be blunt. We have 3 Echo Dot's in our home and each one is very valuable for it's location. In the living room, our Dot is connected to a larger Pioneer AirPlay speaker via aux cable. We are able to stream Pandora or Amazon music at a very high volume & great quality with this setup. We also use this location to control our smart devices light lights & thermostat. In the bedroom, we use the Dot's built in speaker for weather updates, alarms & sleep music. In our theater, I have connected Dot to IFTTT and the Logitech Harmony Ultimate Home hub, which by voice, can control all the devices in the room. I can say, 'Alexa, turn on the xbox', and my projector, amp, xbox 1 all come on. Once we move to smart switches in the theater, I can also control the lighting. Overall, Alexa via the Dot is the best way to add an AI assistant to your home. For $49 (or the sale prices of around $35) they are a no brainer). There is simply no-need for the larger Echo, unless you have no-other speaker you can connect a Dot to. The Echo speaker is OK, but nothing compared to being plugged into an AV system, a nicer bluetooth spear like the UE Boom, Marshall Stanmore or an AirPlay speaker like the Pioneer that we have. With so many new features being added weekly, Alexa is crushing Siri & Google Home.

I first bought the Echo and loved it. I then purchased the Dot for 2 different rooms. The Dots are in the bedrooms so I can tell Alexa to add things to my shopping list from different places in the house right when I think of them. When you're at the store you can look at the shopping list on your phone. With all our music uploaded we can listen to it in the bedrooms to help us go to sleep and have it shut itself off. I also uploaded a self-hypnosis disk for meditating and relaxing. The Dots sound the same to me as the Echo but if you're not as happy with the sound on the Dot you can pair it with a sound system. It can do all the things the Echo can do and takes up less room even though the Echo doesn't take up a lot of room either. Alexa can do so much I can't even begin to describe it all here. My favorites are playing my music, my favorite radio stations, creating & using my shopping list, getting the time, weather and having it make conversions of quantities for when I'm baking. One day my husband told Alexa he loved her and she thanked him and said it's nice to be appreciated. He nearly fell over. Check out all the capabilities you'll be amazed. I even bought Dots for family members for Christmas and a friend for his birthday. Inexpensive and worth every cent.

I'm really into the latest when it comes to Tech, but smart home devices never really felt like they were worth it to me. I knew I would try them eventually, but the price and the tech had to be right for me to jump in. Finally, this Black Friday I decided that I would try the echo dot bundle with the TP-Link wall socket because I had heard great things about the dot and for $35 it seemed like a great time to finally try a smart home device without spending a lot of money. After spending about a week and a half with the dot and the TP link I have to say that I'm impressed with all the Dot has to offer at a low price. The TP link itself is a bit of a hit and miss device, but being able to control light/s and other appliances with the dot is quick, easy, and very responsive. The dot is also very good at picking up your voice from quite a distance as long as things aren't too loud. Aside from home automation, the dot is excellent for, but not limited to, music, news, asking random questions, and even controlling certain Sony Bravia TVs (which was probably the best surprise as I just jumped on a 4k Sony Bravia). The only two things that I didn't like too much were the integrated speakers and how precise you have to be with voice commands. The speakers are okay and for all that your getting for $30-$50 it's not a huge deal as most that care about sound will have a Bluetooth speaker that can be paired with the Echo to use for much better sound. As for the voice command, they're good, but you have to be very precise about the way you word the phrase otherwise the dot will not understand what you want it to do and it can be a bit frustrating at times. The commands could definitely be improved upon, but for me it wasn't a huge deal in the end because with time I've found myself becoming more used to the way I have to phrase all my commands to get what I want out of my dot. Overall, for 35$ I'm very pleased and I have to say that even at $50 the price is definitely justifiable for all the features and hardware you're getting.

These devices are meant to simplify your life by providing access to things like weather reports and news, but alone by themselves, they're basically a path for you to buy things from Amazon or get mundane information you could easily get elsewhere. For example, a short time back you could not ask Alexa (the female voice that speaks to you through the Echo Dot) to add an item to a to-do list. There just weren't any lists provided by Amazon. Now you can add items by voice, but you can't delete them (you have to use the Alexa app on your phone to do that). There's also a shopping list you can add things to, but same thing for deleting items. That's it - you get two lists (to-do and shopping) and you can't delete items from them using voice commands. Perhaps that will change with time. These devices do become useful when tied to other devices and services through a thing called "skills". Want to control music from Spotify? Add the skill. Light switches that support it? Add the skill. Have a viable calendar you can add appointments to? Add the skill. But you do have to have the other services or devices to tie a "skill" to, so you will need to create accounts with those other providers and possibly pay them a fee to use such services. The Echo Dot (or any Amazon device) just connects to them if the service provider has created connectivity for them via a "skill". BTW, adding a "skill" is easy, just give Amazon your credentials (id and password) for the service you want to tie to the Echo. As to the Echo Do for itself, the sound that comes from it is very clear, and the microphones are quite spectacular at capturing your voice from fairly far away. If you speak softly it'll hear you from about 10 feet away. Yell at it from 25 feet or so and it will still respond properly. You are also supposed to be able to connect several of these and the closest one to you will respond (haven't tried that yet, but then it will be quite nice to speak anywhere in one's abode and have the closest device respond). Also bear in mind where you place them. My most difficult test for it was placing it right over a bookshelf speaker I'd tied it to, and playing it at room listening volume (not loud, not soft). The Echo Dot had difficulty at time recognizing the wake work ("Alexa"), but for the most part it did. Voice recognition (parsing spoken commands) is quite good and for the most part you can say things in different ways and still get the result you expected.

I am stunned by how well the Echo can hear and understand what I am saying from anywhere in my 700 sq foot apartment. I was worried that I might need two, but this does the job. The various things it can do such as set multiple timers and make lists and turn on and off my lights are so incredibly convenient. The only downside is that the speaker is quiet. However, I would not fault it since it so small. It is also very easy to connect this to a high quality bluetooth speaker. I highly recommend this.

I spent almost a month researching voice command smart home devices before selecting Alexa. So far it has done everything I could want and actually surprised me. I didn't think the echo dot would be able to do as much as the larger echo but it definitely holds up. My only complaint comes while using it with the Fire tv. It struggles sometimes with playing things from Netflix. Such as "Alexa, play Dragon Ball Z from Netflix" it will not be able to open Netflix and then find that show. It is however great at opening Netflix and then I simply manually select what I want. Overall great product that does everything I could ask. I currently have my lights hooked up to it which is crazy convienant.

I only have Echo Dots. But I now have 5 of them! I love them. They are perfect for the price. I recently purchased two more hooking one to my stereo in the garage and the other to our living room with a pair of Insignia speakers from BestBuy. PERFECT. The Dots can stand by themselves if you are just wanting it to answer questions and commands but if you want music... hook them to better speakers. We've been playing Christmas music with the Multi-Room feature and it works perfectly.

Such a handy little device. I always ask Alexa what the weather is before I leave for the day to work. It's good for when you are in a rush and just need some quick info like the weather or what movies are playing at the movie theater rather than GOOGLE it on my phone. I use my Echo Dot daily as a speaker to stream my Pandora music in conjunction with a wireless speaker. I like that it is compact and you can tuck it away on a table or nightstand without it taking up too much room.

This is my first Echo. The price and size was most appealing to me when purchased for Black Friday. The Echo Dot is very easy to set up by following the app instructions. I now have it sync to my firestick and smart plug. I use the basic features which includes having Alexa make phone calls, turn on my firestick, play music from my Pandora app playlist or use my Amazon music, answer trivia questions, tell me the news and weather forecast and so much more. I have yet to connect to speakers in my home but I love that they thought to have a port hole available for that option and not just Bluetooth capability. I love having this device in the kitchen also...

Want a Smart Home? Start here. I like the echo for the little things it can do. Set timers, tell me the time, set alarms, give me a news briefing. And I like how many products it works with. I have a smart bulb connected to it and plan to expand. For the low price point its worth to enter the smart home way of living.
