We already owned 2 Amazon echoes. My wife saw this and said why don’t we have this? So I went and bought it. We absolutely love the show the best. The screen is awesome. You can even customize the screen with your own picture. I like the clock on it. I can see it if I wake up at night. I just recently got The Ring doorbell cameras. I can ask Alexa to show me the front door and it will pull the camera right up so I can see what’s going on in front of my house. I also use amazon music and when you ask her to play a song the lyrics show right up on the screen. You can see pictures of the deal of the day if you ask Alexa to see the deals of the day on Amazon. Also it randomly has news and sports stuff showing across the screen. I am not a news watcher so this keeps me current on some events going on. I saw that this 1st generation was on sale for $129.99 and it is worth every penny. You cannot go wrong with this.

Better value than the Generation 2 version

This item is a very capable home companion device to perform and carry out Alexa based commands and skills. Upon comparison to the newer 2nd generation Echo Show, it is a much smaller screen but the display seems sharper probably due to a higher pixel density of a smaller screen. The sound of the 2nd gen is better than this but not by much. The thing that makes this a better choice (to me) over the second gen is the price. For what amounts to be about less than half (depending on the sales prices going on and whatever particular time), this Echo Show is a better value. Show mode doesn't really do much to utilize the display, so the larger screen of the Gen 2 is not really a huge factor anymore. You can only stand seeing so much news headlines and song lyrics while a tune is playing to go so far before you realize the screen is not being used to its fullest potential for a home companion device.

    Speaker Failure

We've had this device for about 2 weeks now, and the speaker on it seems to have died last night. When it first happened, we rebooted it and the speaker was working as long as we kept the volume at or below 50%. If we increased the volume above that, the speaker would stop working and we had to reboot it again. We contacted Amazon and they are sending a replacement which should arrive in 2 days (Dec 31st). Update 1: the speaker has completely died now, nothing we do will get it to work again. We have loved this device up until this issue. If the new one does not have this issue, we will increase our rating back up to 5 stars, but for now it will stay at 1. Update 2: just received the replacement Echo Show and during the initial setup, the speaker died on us. We have not had this new one for more than an hour now. We finished the setup and rebooted the device and it seems to be working now. Will give it a week and will update review then.

Great product, but I still use my iPhone for most things. I bought this for my family for Christmas. The plan was to upgrade to the newer more expensive version if we liked it, and to send this one to the folks in Florida, so they can video chat with the kids. We used to Skype with them, but there always seems to be a problem with Skype either on our end or theirs. We keep it in the kitchen, it works great for playing music on pandora while I’m cooking. Also, makes a great timer while my hands are full of food. Useful for looking up some basic stuff, but not super smart. I’m sure it has a lot of features I’m not taking advantage of yet. Haven’t used it for video chat since we discovered WhatsApp shortly after we got it. Overall it was worth the money. Don’t think I need to upgrade.

This had a lot of promise, but it just doesn't do enough. YouTube. Nope. Digital Picture frame. Not quite as good a real one or even a cheap tablet with a slideshow app. Sounds OK, but not as good as an Echo Dot sitting on top of a set of good computer speakers for the same price. I think a cheap Android tablet with a stand and an Echo Dot with a separate speaker would be more useful right now, even though it would take up more space. And I guess there is just not that much I need to see from Alexa. Just voice responses from her seems to be good enough. For everything else, a tablet with a native assistant can open web pages for you too (Google Assistant, Cortana and even Bixby).

I’ve had an echo show for about a year and absolutely love it! I purchased one for my mom and dad along with a couple dots and am shocked how much they use it. We now have set one up for my 93 year old grandma and her 87 year old brother since they can’t travel anymore and now they can see each other every day! Along with us being able to see them as well. I am truly amazed at how quickly my older relatives have learned to use it and how excited they are to have it and absolutely love it. What a great way to allow people to not just speak but to see the faces of their loved ones with such an easy to use device. It shocked me to see them calling people on their own along with using it for so many other things with no problems and a huge smile on their faces! I highly recommend this and will be buying more for myself and any other family members that need one.

We outfitted our whole home with Echo devices last Christmas when they were all on sale and had special promotions. I bought a second generation Echo Show and loved it so much that I wanted another. Except they were all sold out. :-( So I decided to try a first generation one that was on clearance and I have no regrets. The screen isn’t as big as the second gen, but it’s still great. I use this particular device in my downstairs office. It’s really helpful to be able to “drop in” on the Echo Show upstairs and have a conversation without running up and down steps. I also love being able to see/answer our Ring video doorbell. All around great product and I’m happy I bought it.

I have this Echo Show (1st generation), a few 2nd generation Echos, and a couple 3rd generation Echo Dots. Having the screen is a nice touch, and it makes the device a lot more useful than voice-only. Although the speakers are larger in the Show, the Show doesn't sound as good as the standard Echos. In addition, the microphones are not nearly as good at picking up your voice and understanding what you're saying as the regular Echos or the new Dots. But, it's still good enough, and the screen makes up for its lack of sound quality and poorer voice control. I haven't tried the 2nd generation Show, but I've purchased an additional 1st generation for a family member; hopefully we'll be able to do easy video chats and I think they'll like it (it'll be their first smart device).

It can stream music really well and not just from Amazon. I was expecting it to be smart like Watson, but it is more like an Blank Stare. Amazon should look into predicting questions like during 2017 Superbowl Play Offs. Alexa was unable to display or update the Play Off Brackets. It understands my voice really well, were most telephone automated assistants rarely get what I am saying. It want pair to my Portable Bluetooth Speaker. It will pair to my cell phone, but only to receive Music from it. The Audio quality is varies with amplitude. With low amplitudes Alexa has booming sound making it hard to understand from across the room, but an amplitude setting of about 50% the audio becomes clear and understandable. I really like playing games like Jeopardy with Alexa. No climbing through the closet to find a box anymore, and when you do find it box half the pieces are missing.

Useless screen so why pay for it?

Worthless, except as a regular echo and a poor excuse for video chat. I love my echo devices, bathroom, pool, kitchen, other places where I may need hands free, voice activated music and info. My wife bought me the 'newest, hottest' thing. I was skeptical but then thought I would use it to help on a project. Me "Alexa find videos on f450 drone" Alexa "YouTube is not available". Amazon won't directly sell chrome products, youtube won't play on echo show. Further testing shows the video call is more limited than iPhone or Android apps for video. So the most useful thing now is the same voice functions that my echos and dots perform. Unless I want to make all of my video calls and check the weather from a device I can move no more than 3 feet from an outlet.

Alexa has slowly taken over my home. I was very hesitant about why I would want one with a screen. After all I can make FaceTime calls on my iOS devices. However, the sound is great; personal photo wallpapers (think a digital picture frame built in) are amazing. You can set it up so it shows pictures from "this day in 2012" (or any year) if you use amazon photos (which is free with Prime). The video calling is what makes me feel like I am living in the "future!" Calling my Dad feels like we are sitting in the same room and having a chat. It's much more natural than awkwardly holding an iPhone showing your unflattering under chin's (LOL). Seriously, this is the killer feature for me. It works seamlessly with my alexa connected home. Must buy! I'd wait for the sale/discounted price though. $229 is a bit steep but $150 is a no brainer!

I read reviews on Best Buy and several other sites about the positives and negatives and decided to pull the trigger. Pros: 1) the sound is better than some of the reviews state. I placed it next to my Echo and tested music from both and the Show had no distortion. 2) Adds the 'Multi-Room Music feature. I have a Echo and several Dots and it turns my entire house into a theater. I plugged one of the Dots into my Samsung soundbar in the living room and the house rocks. 3) Customization of the background screen 4) The constant flashing of news and facts. I'm always asking Alexa to provide more information on certain flashes 5) My parents are getting the Show for Christmas and we will be able to go live like Facetime Cons: 1) Had an issue with the connection since my Tap was located in same room. Rebooted the Show and it seemed to fix the issue.

We recently bought new front doors with no peep holes so bought the ring to be able to see who is at our front door but wanted to have something everyone at the house can check the front door with instead of our phones so we purchased this echo show. We opted for this first edition since it was on sale for a great price and we love it. I really like the size. It allows me to see who is at the front door perfectly. I really enjoy asking Alexa to play music for me and like how the lyrics show up. There are so many things to do with this for simple tasks that I found it more useful than I expected since I originally was just buying to connect to my ring. I have yet to use the phone call feature but am excited to try it soon.

I bought this because they said it is compatible with RiNg.com Pro I purchased . ADS Made it seem like if doorbell rings it shows people at door ... IT DOES NOT ! IT Warns you and screen writes motion at front door... But you must say ALexa open front door . than it connects to ring.com slowly I might add and you have to press screen mic to communicate with front door ....the software TO CONNECT AUTOMATICALLY TO RING.COM IS NOT AVAILABLE YET SOMEONE HAS TO COME UP WITH IT ...they said they would let me know I like the item so I hope someone comes up with a solution and updates it without charging me for the upgrade. Like the new generation that does what it said the laST GENERATION WOULD DO

I was excited about this. I actually bought it for my college kid. We set it up and he was concerned about privacy and honestly it doesn't understand commands and doesn't do much. You can only get Amazon content so he said his PC is more useful. He kept the fire stick I bought to go with it. I took it home. It's cumbersome even to find my Amazon prime videos and owned content. I put it in the guest room as an extra small tv. I like the shape and would like to have used it in the kitchen for you tube recipes but I guess Amazon and Google are having a fight. Not sure why, I think there should be more consideration for their consumers. I am sticking to my iPad for recipes. I am not a good returner or I would have returned it because I pretty much wasted a couple hundred dollars on this. My bad.

I know it has so many features, and I don't even use Amazon much, not even a prime member. However, I love this product, I used it as a display clock, morning alarm, music player which Amazon allows free upload your own music and steaming them without a regular free account. Then I regularly asked it for weather and some stupid questions. I setup my work address so every morning it estimates me the driving time for real traffic. Then I added some outlets for voice controlling my lights, hot water boiler, cooling fan. Once you get use to voice control stuffs, you can never go back to stone age. I simply taped the camera hole as I don't want NSA or hackers monitor my room all the time; and there's a mute button on the top if you don't want it listening all the time also. For the basic feature I used, it already worth for the price.

Already had 2 and when these when BB had a BIG sale price, I couldn't order it fast enough! I can see my Nest cameras (another 5 * product), make video calls to other Show owners, voice calls to anyone else (except 911) and a whole host of skills that are being added almost daily. My only regret is not replacing my 2 remaining Echo Dots when they were on sale. I won't make that mistake on next big sale. I also received 2 of the 'other' home assistants included as free bonuses for buying a couple of other things. I thought that it was only fair to compare the two, disregarging the video aspects of Show. Amazon's Shows and Dots. Echos were like comparing Lambourgini to a '68 VW Bug. Setting up these things are like the expression I heard as a kid, "Easier than fallin' of a log and not near as dangerous."

I was skeptical with this purchase. I do have other Amazon products leading me to my decision to buy this. The Amazon Show looks good. The screen is a little small (2nd gen bigger). It look like a small projections tv sitting on my counter. I like the camera to see and talk to my daughter. The sound from the speaker aren’t the bad sounding for everyday use. I like that it shoes the command on the screen when you ask it something. What I don’t like is you can’t limit the use of the device to non family members. Overall it was worth the purchase.

I love Echo everything but i will be completely honest about this product. It worked great for about a week and after the week the screen started to glitch really bad. I unplug it and it worked normal for a couple days and it starts doing it again. I went online to see any fixes for it and there were none. All of the advice from customers were to unplug and plug back in. There was another one to manually lower the back light all the way down but it still continued to have the problem, Everything else was great about it just the screen glitch was my problem. Echo Show 2 is WAY BETTER than this.
