    It's not a bad device

The Alexa Show was purchased to replace another much older device and while the Show is a good device it is lacking in some aspects that I had in the older device. I'm not sure if I'm missing it in the Show but I was able to get internet cameras on the older device (such as San Diego Zoo Elephants) that you can't get on the Show. While certainly not a deal breaker it was fun to watch. Setup was pretty straight forward and easy. It is a good aspect that we can talk to the device and it knows what we want to a certain extent. It is very literal at times and you have to make sure you have the exact code words or you get something other than what you want. (such as "play" or "start" or "open") I use it as an alarm clock and it is quite easy to set up the same time for my week but it would be a little more difficult if you have to work one weekend day of the week and then 4 more or other combination. You would have to set up several different alarms, one for each day as far as I can see. Some of the alarm sound choices are a bit alarming, I don't really want to be terrified awake each day. I found one that was mellow and at a moderate sound level works well. It would be nice to be able to add your own alarm sounds so you could have it customized to what you'd like. I don't see that yet anywhere. Another thing about the alarm is if you try to dismiss it and touch the screen the wrong way it puts the alarm into snooze mode instead of turning it off. If you tell it to dismiss the alarm it works fine but there are times I'd rather not say anything at that time of day and just dismiss it with a swipe, which is possible, but very sensitive and if you miss, here comes snooze! Just little things that may get fixed in the future with enough feedback from the customers but some may not effect people as much as some people who have more impact with a particular anomaly. I am thinking of getting a thermostat that hooks to it so I can monitor and change the heat and cooling but that is in the future at this time. Hoping that works well when it arrives. It will be nice to raise the temp a degree in the cold of winter without having to get out of the warmth of the bed. All in all I'd say it's a good emerging technology but needs a little work. Considering this type of thing was science fiction not too long ago It's kind of where we're heading.

Righht off the bat, I've used both Google Home and Alexa. Google is just better at recognizing your voice and understanding your commands, in whichever grammatical syntnax I use. I also find that it recognizes any voice much more quickly while playing music. Google is also better with accents, as some of my family members have accents. Google also is much better at finding random information from the web. Now, the positives. The Alexa is getting better all the time. Amazon is constantly updating. This latest update for the Show is really nice. News stories, calendar info, and Amazon delivery info scroll across the screen in a more fluid manner than before. I especially like the background photos that go with the news stories. One thing Alexa is better at than Google Home is connecting with Smart Home devices. Alexa has a been around longer and just has a longer list of compatible devices. I find that manufacturers come out with skills faster for Alexa than Google Home and sometimes work more consistently with Alexa (i.e. Netgear cameras). Alexa also seems to have more useful skills compared to Google Home Actions (that's what Google calls their skills). Google is catching up there also. Now, using a smart display, vs smart speaker, is nice for watching the news, shopping on Amazon, and streaming your home cameras. Not many of the other skills use the display yet. I rather have the screen than not have it because I use the three aforementioned skills very often. I'd probably purchase the new Show smart display because it's better in every way but this 7" display is still very good. It has Dolby audio and allows to stream Amazon as well.

After a few months of figuring out how Alexa works, I’m confident that I can give an accurate review on this product. When I first got Alexa I was asking it so many questions; I’m sure everyone has done the same when they purchase a new toy and really want to try it out. So far I’m happy to report that there have been no glitches or bugs with it whenever I use it. I would recommend purchasing this product whether it is the dot or video screen one. For me, this product has allowed me to keep up with the daily news, listen to music whenever I’m working, and helping me with the definition of some words that I do not know. Like all products there are a few downsides to the Alexa. The main one that I have seen is that occasionally Alexa will activate at the command of some words. Normally these words are very similar to “Alexa,” so I believe that it might have heard its name and activated. The other problem that I have found, while this might not affect that many people, is that I can turn on and off the lights in my mother’s house; she lives in another state from me. My mother and I have found the problem behind this, when you get Alexa it will ask you for an Amazon account. When setting mine up we used my mother’s account, which in turn connected to her other devices at home. This product is also more focused more on the people who work at home and towards students in general. For the individuals who work at home, they may be wanting to listen to music or needing to set reminders while working on what they are doing. As for students in general, I can say for experience that it is nice listening to music or the news just by asking for it when I get ready for the day or when I’m doing homework. Overall, I would recommend getting Alexa as it provides a great way to stay in touch with the news and can be a decent sound system as well since it does connect to your phone via Bluetooth.

    Creative use of Technology

If you are looking for something to help you keep more organized or keep you up to date with weather, markets, and the latest news the Amazon Echo Show is what you are looking for. Honestly, the product is top of the line technology, and is easy to use as long you are patient and work with it, and read the directions. The size of it is truly perfect; it honestly reminds me of the size of normal alarm clock that would have on a nightstand, and with that it truly can serve that purpose. It also has a touch screen, and I feel it is very durable and can stand to last. The sound quality is also superb, with dual 2-inch speakers. It has Bluetooth capabilities as well, but it only works with android, Samsung, Fire OS, IOS device, excluding Mac products. The Echo Show comes in two colors black and white. The product has many different features and functions, and they can accommodate pretty much anyone’s needs. The top feature is the Alexa App, which is an application in which you can call commands and ask it questions about most anything. Then I believe the music capabilities are truly amazing and how you can ask it to play almost any song or playlist whenever you want. Also you can tell it to volume up or down as well. Another new modernized technology it has is the capability to do hands free voice command Smart Home options. A couple things that could be improved, is sometimes that it does not fully hear your exact words, and it will search for something you aren’t expecting. The other function it could have is it could have single voice recognition to only several voices, so then you don’t have the entire room trying to mess with it constantly. The price is also fair as well, for its creative capabilities it has. So if you are trying to find some new technology to add to your home the Echo Show would be a great addition for you.

The Echo Show is definitely an interesting product. If you haven't interacted with one in person, it's basically an Android driven touchscreen built into an Echo device. Unlike a typical Android tablet, however, there are no icons and very little interaction is done with the touchscreen. By default, the screen simply shows the time and current weather in the top left, with a rotating view of Alexa tips, calendar events and news items on the bottom portion of the screen and a randomly chosen background picture. When you talk to Alexa, a blue gradient bar appears on the bottom edge of the screen (reminiscent of the blue light on the original Echo) and the text of her response shows up on the screen. If there are multiple choices, they are listed on the screen and you can reference them by number as well as touch them. The camera integration with various Smart Home providers also works decently, albeit a bit slow to connect sometimes. But overall, the touchscreen on the Echo Show puts an interesting spin on the concept of the Echo devices.

I have had the Echo Show for about a month now. So this review is from a new user whom has never had smart devices aside from cell phones. Alexa is great for listening to music, most of it free if you're an Amazon Prime member, pair your Echo device with a bluetooth speaker for awesome sound. Alexa works well with smart home devices such as light bulbs, outlets and thermostat. (Most of these are really easy to set up, so you don't have to be a very technical person.) All of which can be voice controlled or remotely via the Alexa app from your smart phone. If you have a friend with an Echo Show, you can make video calls via the devices or directly to a smart phone which is pretty awesome for family and friends whom live far away. As far as answering questions, do not expect the best answers. The Bing search engine needs some work. If you want to ask the questions she prompts you with on an Echo show, she's your girl, but if you want to know something, you might have to look it up yourself. IE; weather forecast, you get whatever Bing uses and the short version. If Bing would expand their horizons in searches, I would definitely 5 star this item. She does fairly well with recipes and shopping lists. I am going to be trying out the calendar sync portion of this with my wife after the holidays. All in all, very fun, helpful, item. It can order you pizza too.

I have an Echo and bought this one because of the display. Speaker is good, Show is more informative when asking for Weather it will give you today and next 5 days as well, when playing a song it will show you the lyrics as I have now correctly learned the lyrics to Let it Go lol. But one thing that I am disappointed in is not having YouTube. I know YouTube is a Google product but until recently you could still search and watch videos on the Echo Show until. I don't know the exact beef between the two companies are, but I know they are pulling YouTube off their Fire Sticks as well. I hope it gets resolved soon, and they can figure it out. I do know Amazon has tried a work around the YouTube issue, but good look trying to type into the very small characters on the screen, and then I keep getting an error stating I cant watch the video. I haven't tried the Video calling, but I'm purchasing another one to have at my Moms home so ill update after I do. I do know if you don't just want anybody to pop and see what your doing that you have to turn that feature off!!!

This item is a very capable home companion device to perform and carry out Alexa based commands and skills. Upon comparison to the newer 2nd generation Echo Show, it is a much smaller screen but the display seems sharper probably due to a higher pixel density of a smaller screen. The sound of the 2nd gen is better than this but not by much. The thing that makes this a better choice (to me) over the second gen is the price. For what amounts to be about less than half (depending on the sales prices going on and whatever particular time), this Echo Show is a better value. Show mode doesn't really do much to utilize the display, so the larger screen of the Gen 2 is not really a huge factor anymore. You can only stand seeing so much news headlines and song lyrics while a tune is playing to go so far before you realize the screen is not being used to its fullest potential for a home companion device.

    Speaker Failure

We've had this device for about 2 weeks now, and the speaker on it seems to have died last night. When it first happened, we rebooted it and the speaker was working as long as we kept the volume at or below 50%. If we increased the volume above that, the speaker would stop working and we had to reboot it again. We contacted Amazon and they are sending a replacement which should arrive in 2 days (Dec 31st). Update 1: the speaker has completely died now, nothing we do will get it to work again. We have loved this device up until this issue. If the new one does not have this issue, we will increase our rating back up to 5 stars, but for now it will stay at 1. Update 2: just received the replacement Echo Show and during the initial setup, the speaker died on us. We have not had this new one for more than an hour now. We finished the setup and rebooted the device and it seems to be working now. Will give it a week and will update review then.

Great product, but I still use my iPhone for most things. I bought this for my family for Christmas. The plan was to upgrade to the newer more expensive version if we liked it, and to send this one to the folks in Florida, so they can video chat with the kids. We used to Skype with them, but there always seems to be a problem with Skype either on our end or theirs. We keep it in the kitchen, it works great for playing music on pandora while I’m cooking. Also, makes a great timer while my hands are full of food. Useful for looking up some basic stuff, but not super smart. I’m sure it has a lot of features I’m not taking advantage of yet. Haven’t used it for video chat since we discovered WhatsApp shortly after we got it. Overall it was worth the money. Don’t think I need to upgrade.

I have this Echo Show (1st generation), a few 2nd generation Echos, and a couple 3rd generation Echo Dots. Having the screen is a nice touch, and it makes the device a lot more useful than voice-only. Although the speakers are larger in the Show, the Show doesn't sound as good as the standard Echos. In addition, the microphones are not nearly as good at picking up your voice and understanding what you're saying as the regular Echos or the new Dots. But, it's still good enough, and the screen makes up for its lack of sound quality and poorer voice control. I haven't tried the 2nd generation Show, but I've purchased an additional 1st generation for a family member; hopefully we'll be able to do easy video chats and I think they'll like it (it'll be their first smart device).

It can stream music really well and not just from Amazon. I was expecting it to be smart like Watson, but it is more like an Blank Stare. Amazon should look into predicting questions like during 2017 Superbowl Play Offs. Alexa was unable to display or update the Play Off Brackets. It understands my voice really well, were most telephone automated assistants rarely get what I am saying. It want pair to my Portable Bluetooth Speaker. It will pair to my cell phone, but only to receive Music from it. The Audio quality is varies with amplitude. With low amplitudes Alexa has booming sound making it hard to understand from across the room, but an amplitude setting of about 50% the audio becomes clear and understandable. I really like playing games like Jeopardy with Alexa. No climbing through the closet to find a box anymore, and when you do find it box half the pieces are missing.

We recently moved away from the in-laws and they miss seeing us. They are older and struggle with face-timing so when we saw these at Best Buy for a great price, we grabbed two of them. We already had a couple of echos so we know we like how Alexa works, but what we didn't know how our in-laws would take to it. Now they just ask "Call Name" and not only does the Echo Show ring, but so do all of our Echos and we can even take the video call from our iPhones. They use it for all sorts of things and are much better at using Alexa than they are with a PC or smartphone. My only wish is that the sound was a bit better for music, but other than that, i am happy with my purchase.

I got this for my inlaws so they could talk with my wife on a regular basis as she messes seeing them and I am glad that I did. At the time it was a better deal than the gen 2 and though that model is better, this is just what they needed to get into the smart devices and home automation landscape. I got them a few smart lights, smart plugs, some echo dots and this has helped to make things a lot easier for them around the house. They appear to like having the ability to see and char with family members and its easy enough for them to use. They actually find it amusing and show it off their friends every chance they get.

So we added this to our Echo family of devices. It's nice to have screen, but I honestly don't find I use it as much as I thought I would. The video calling feature would be pretty great IF we knew more people with a video capable Echo device.... Also, we've had some technical issues that I haven't been able to resolve as of yet. Ultimately, this is a powerful little gadget and can be fun to pop on a movie while sitting at the kitchen bar counter. It's also awesome to be able to display our security camera feed for the outdoor cameras, but you should probably investigate it's features and your needs before splurging on this over one of the more 'traditional' echo devices. It's essentially an Alexa enabled tablet with a nice speaker, so something to think about.

Overall a great product. No need to explain voice enabled features as they’re the same across all types of voice enabled devices. I mainly bought this because of speaker: the power output is far better than Amazon’s other Echo devices. I don’t know how well the sound projects in open cathedral-like room, but it’s absolutely perfect (actually more than sufficient) for traditional, compartmentalized homes. I haven’t really used much and placed a lot of emphasis on the screen other than it helps when changing settings, learn lyrics to songs, read who the artist is...etc. This is my 4th Show, and I think that speaks for itself!

Currently have an Echo and a few Echo Dots so this is a great addition to the home network. The speaker is loud but is very directional due to it's build. Meaning it doesn't have that great "surround" sound like the Echo but it's clear and loud enough. I do appreciate the screen, using it in the bedroom doesn't bother me personally as I can sleep well with multiple devices in the room with varying degrees of brightness. On a desk the angle of the screen works great, If you have a high counter top it would be best if you are standing. Overall I might wish the design was a bit less clunky looking, but that does give it a stable base. Brought one for my parents and they enjoy using it with some of the skills that improved with the screen capability.

I love having the screen available to use for certain tasks like streaming doorbell video, security camera footage, Amazon Prime music lyrics and videos, but I am disappointed that Amazon’s implementation of YouTube on the Echo Show violated Google's terms of service so they got the app pulled from the Show. Also, honestly, and anyone can prove it just through everyday use, but the Echo is just not as useful as Google Assistant with inquiries. It works pretty well with home automation but it just doesn't understand or can't help with about half of the inquiries I throw at it. I would have gone with a Google Home if there was one with a touchscreen. I would recommend it for those heavily invested in Amazon Prime and home automation.

I love all Amazon products, but this one here takes the cake. I enjoy everything about it. It has so many features that you don't need to search on any other device for information. It also can act as a personal assistant with reminders. I use it a lot to drop in on my other shows throughout the house when I am too lazy to walk over. Con: the only thing I have issues with is the microphone. When I am making phone calls off of the device the other person always says they are having trouble hearing me.

I bought this device for my girlfriend to use in the kitchen so she could look up and see recipes and instructions when trying new food dishes. The device is great for this. We also love being able to listen to music, world news, search for items or products and easily order items from this device. We also are able to connect other devices and operate lights in the home. It does so much more. I think this is a great device for the home.
