    Worth the upgrade

As with thousands of others, my family was an early adopter in the Amazon Echo/Alexa product family (meaning, I got the first gen Echo the week it came out in 2014) . Since then, we've added a few Dots (first & second gen), Fire TV stick, 4K Fire TV, Fire Cube, the first gen Echo Show, TP-Link smart bulbs & switches, so on and so on. There were a handful of reasons I was interested in upgrading to the second gen Echo Show: 1) Sound. It sounds ten times better than the original. There's usually music playing in my house at any given moment in any given room, and sound to me is something I don't tend to settle for. The first gen Show is decent, but if you're on the fence about the new one, go to a local BB or Amazon store and give it a listen. I knew the first minute I heard gen 2 I'd likely get one at some point just due to the sound improvement. Thanks to Amazon for adding equalizer adjustments this past fall, it has definitely helped other Echo devices we have. However, IMO, you'll hear straight out of the box at factory settings, without even adjusting the Echo Show 2, that its sound is better than most of the other devices in the Echo product family. 2) Screen size. Fairly obvious - Amazon launched a product with a larger screen that simply put, provides more viewing real estate for us as users. When you're further away or across the kitchen (where ours is located) it's helpful not to have to squint or walk up several steps closer to see what's happening. 3) Visually and aesthetically more appealing. Besides the sound being better, the screen being larger, the decision to upgrade the back shell/casing gen 2 was a solid move - Amazon elected to forgo the plastic casing and roll with woven fabric, along with their new generation of Echo and Echo Dot devices. Makes sense. They also made the bezel around the ages slimmer, again, helping the design and amount of screen you have to work with. 4) Linking with Amazon Camera. I installed an Amazon Camera in our basement recently. Our daughter is nearly three and is cruising around on her own. Since we added the Gen 2 to our kitchen and I moved our older Gen 1 up to our bedroom, I can do the obvious "Alexa, show me the basement" and the Amazon cam will give me a live snapshot of what's happening in the basement. We obviously don't leave her alone down there, but as she ages it will be a security net for us to keep an eye on her from the kitchen and/or from our master bedroom. Since she has a little brother joining our family in the coming weeks, the inevitable 'kids will be kids' is going to happen and the camera will be our eye in the sky. Follow me? 5) I had a $100 BB gift card. My house has lots of gadgets, home theater equipment, new appliances, etc. I was truly trying to find a way to be smart about how I used this $100 and went back and forth on other ideas. When it boiled down to it...I chose to pair the $100 gift card and a $5 reward zone discount, with the Black Friday price reduction from $230 to $180 (and a free Philips Hue bulb), and I had a Gen 2 Echo Show for about $85. Done and done. We use this Echo Show 2 as much as the first gen...every day. The second one is superior in just about every way you can think of, and there has been zero regret upgrading. I'm sure when our friends at Amazon roll out their third iteration of the Show it'll bring a handful of new/upgraded bells & whistles. Maybe by then Amazon and Google will get over themselves and put the actual YouTube app back on their devices...and Google will allow Amazon Music on to their devices. Who knows. I can say with certainty, the gap between the first gen and second gen gave me plenty of reasons to buy and stick with gen 2 for the next several years.

    I LOVE THE ECHO SHOW

I love the second generation echo show 10.1. The upgrades from the original marketed first gen echo show (which I also own), was exactly what I wanted Bigger screen Surround sound improved, it’s fantastic in small and larger bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens. The sounds get into me, often I’m lowering the sounds to listen with or without others around. To activate “Alexa”, while listening to music or shows improved with gen 2, it “hears me” even when the device is at loud levels playing my selections, and I’m across the room Im a real end user, I’m 58, I own three second gen echo shows and gifted several units. These devices are getting better with updates and the more skills that are added. It works with my ring video system. I believe It would have been perfect in the extended care unit my dad was in for most of 2020, but something about privacy laws “they say” prevented us to use them there. I love the design of (this unit), the second gen over the first and third gen. It’s an amazing unit I can see into my home when I’m gone. I can connect to my friends and family and see their faces in real time. In my humble opinion, it works better than most video chat apps on pc/phones/tablets that I’ve tested over the years. I can search the internet with this unit, I can set alarms, timers, I can cancel timers on another echo device from this unit. There’s a lot of value packed in this unit. It can be a fantastic family bonding unit, without eating up phone data. This unit works great on dsl, which my top speeds for my internet speeds are 17mbps download, upload 2mbps.

I have been using Alexa for a few years now and was excited to try the Echo Show. There was a great sale happening at Best Buy so I decided to take the plunge with the 10.1" Show for my living room. The device is pretty large with the screen on the front and a speaker on the back. You can not only ask Alexa questions or set alarms or timers, but you can use it to make video calls, play games, or check to see who is at the front door with your video doorbell. If you're into home automation, this is a must-have because you can use Alexa to set up routines and control most smart devices. The one thing I wish it had included that it doesn't is a swivel stand. (You can buy one separately.)

I am slowly upgrading all of my 1st gen Echo Shows to 2nd gen. Love the larger screen and sleek look. I and my family use these devices A LOT. All kinds of music with a simple request. Family plays Jeopardy every evening while cooking dinner. Key lights have been set up for remote voice control. Scroll through recipes with voice controls. Watch shows and movies and YouTube how-to vids. Weather alerts and forecasts, and Alexa has quite the sense of humor. We check in on the grandparents several times a week and the children drop in on us frequently. Shopping lists are SO easy. Recommend highly.

We got 2 Echo Shows (one for my office and one for my husband's) and plan to get a 3rd for the kitchen. It connects to several smart devices directly (including Google Nest) so it's a very good contender for a hub. You can see video from Nest cameras and hear audio, but can't talk through them. Since Google is a competitor, this functionality will probably go away. For now, it works great. A couple of features we love: speaker group, broadcast/announcements and drop in. It's easy to setup and use and the speakers actually sound pretty good.

The Echo Shows are great devices. I owned the echo show 5 and upgraded to the larger screen which is great. The sound it’s also much better than the smaller echo devices. We use the device in our kitchen with a lot of square footage to cover. Of course you use the Alexa application with the Show. I find the application very easy to use and it pairs well with lightbulbs, security system, etc. This is such a good product that I have bought one my parents.

It's great that Alexa comes in all sizes but this one is the one you need. It's Practically like a tablet with a million times better Siri. Everything works smoothly, easier to use compared to the smaller screen Alexa and browsing videos/web is not only easier to see and use but it also sounds amazing. It can get very loud compared to the others. Kids can have fun using it while you watch them in the kitchen. I love mine and i gift this to friends and family all the time and they love it as well.

We have two of the original 5" Shows and wanted to upgrade. These new 10" ones are crystal clear and very easy to see. The sound is much better, too, with decent bass for listening to music. Love having them hooked up to our Ring doorbell so we can see the front door easily. The set up could not have been simpler. It only took a couple of minutes to do then a few minutes for the Echo to download updates.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. It was a great value with multi function. It was a great choice that fit my budget and wants. Great quality sound, which was very important for a musician. He says he's very pleased with the picture size too. He was able to perform set up of this product quickly and easily. I'm happy to watch him enjoy using it daily.

If your looking for a hub for your smart home look no further easy to use I actually own 2 large echo shows and and 1 Medium echo show and I love I also have dots threw my house I’m far from lazy but with a full house I often ask Alexa to tell everyone dinner is done and she lets everyone in the house know we actually have quite a few smart things in out house plugins lighting so with this show it makes it easy because she is a hub and makes it easier so we don’t have multiple hubs for different devices she does it all she’s even compatible with our ring security system she even has a I’m leaving function so she will Guard the house while you’re gone so there’s glass breaking for the fire alarm goes off she’ll let you know so don’t think twice about buying this show you will not regret it I actually have one in my kitchen and she helps with timers recipes music to keep me motivated and also if I’m really busy I can listen to the news while I’m cooking washing dishes or simply just watch a primal show or any other show while I’m busy in the kitchen she even reads me my audio books she can even make a quick call for me if I need her to if my hands are full definitely a great purchase I love Alexa will the ease of it anyway I’ve tried it’s competition and I came right back to Alexa it’s probably a personal preference me and the kids even play games with her while getting the kitchen Chores done

I own a few Alexa products and so far this is my favorite one. Screen is sharp, sound is clear and easy to use. I control everything with this, my lights, my music, etc. I guess the only thing I would say it needed was access to Netflix. The new one will have it so I hope they update these to get it as some point, then it would be perfect!

I love the large screen - love to watch YouTube videos, and am so happy Google allows the use of YouTube with Alexa. The sound is great also. I haven't used it to the fullest extent yet, but I find it easy to use and program. I am very happy with this product and would highly recommend it. I also purchased the Best Buy extended warranty.

This next generation model of the Amazon Echo show is a vast improvement over the original. Dolby Digital sound and a big HD screen makes watching shows and listening to music a pleasure. It has a built-in SmartHub, so you can get the rest of your Smart Home appliances talking to each other in a breeze. Definitely recommend picking one up.

We bought this primarily to do video calling with our son after his baby (and our first grandchild) was born. It works very well for the calls! The sound is also great on it and I listen to SiriusXM or watch an occasional video. I have also set it up to control a few smart plugs.

I am planning on getting my father one so that we can video chat. i like that it has the built in hub so that I can add some colored lights for my wife to operate during the holidays.

I have the 1st gen Echo Show, and decided to give the 2nd gen a try. The larger screen makes big difference when trying to see the screen from a distance. Also the sound is much richer on the 2nd gen. I feel $229 is a bit pricey. I would definitely wait until these are on sale before purchasing

We have a 1st gen at home and purchased this one as a Christmas gift. The screen is bigger and better, the audio is also quite a bit better. Setup is step by step and simple, no confusing techno geek speak to get mixed up with. Main use if for video calls and it is perfect for that.

Over all we are really pleased. Great sound quality and connects to our Pandora, SiriusXM, Prime Music, IHeart Radio & Ring accounts. The Ring doorbell camera response is even faster than the Ring App, and the 10" screen has a clear picture. Only problems so far is every once in a while it doesn't respond to the OFF command and it locked up once and had to be rebooted.
