    Making it Easy for Mom!

I purchased the Echo Show 8 for my elderly mom and one for myself, primarily so that we could stay in touch more easily. She's not a fan of smartphones and has trouble managing Facetime and Zoom with her tablet. The Echo 8 should make it very easy for her, and it'll be great to see her! I did the setup for both our units at my home, and just recently shipped it to her. The setup process was not easy or intuitive, however, because she does not have a smartphone that could be linked to her new Amazon and Alexa accounts that had to be created. She has an old style flip phone that cannot even text. Using a popular 3rd party app, I had to generate a new temporary phone number that can receive calls and texts, which I linked to her Echo 8 related accounts. She might be upgrading to a text capable flip phone soon, at which time we can link it to her Echo related Amazon and Alexa accounts and eliminate the temporary phone number. That way the Echo can use her existing phone number instead of the new number I created that she would have to give everyone. As you can see the setup was complicated, in our case. Regarding the Echo Show 8 device. On the plus side, it has great sound including bass, it has plenty of volume, it has a good size touch screen, the unit is good looking, it's solid, and the menus are pretty easily to follow. The biggest drawback, to me, is that you can only call one person at a time, unlike Zoom or Facetime for example that can simultaneously connect multiple people. However, I recently read that both the Echo and Alexa app may get software updates soon to allow conferencing, which would be awesome. It is because of the current lack of a phone conferencing feature, though, that I rated the Echo 8 at 4 stars instead of 5. Another drawback is that you cannot adjust the viewing angle. I had to purchase the optional stand that allows you to tilt the unit. Also, since you plug the Echo 8 into a wall outlet you can't move it around, which can be a slight inconvenience. Having the option for operating with a good rechargeable battery would be nice. I didn't mention the video/movie and music playing features, mostly because they're not the reason I bought the the Echo 8. They're both very good, though, and hopefully future software updates will increase the number of video and music services that can be linked. I am hopeful that my mom will enjoy the Echo 8. If they implement the conferencing feature, it should be a lot of fun for family video calls with our mom, and it should be very easy for her to manage. I hope!

We love this and use it all the time. We need to purchase a stand to help tilt it up but it has been great. We pair it with our ring door but we also play musix on it, watch nw Etflix while cooking, trivia and so much more.

Overall a pretty solid product. Initially purchased the Echo Show 5, then exchanged for the 8. Picture is great. Screen is big enough to enjoyably watch Netflix, Prime Video, etc., and to this point Alexa has followed commands for these pretty well. Sound quality is pretty good and a big step up from the Echo Show 5. Had to adjust the stock equalizer settings as it has a bit too much bass. Fairly easy to connect with an XM/Sirius radio subscription as well. Alexa has functioned fine, no trouble understanding any commands or anything. Only real contention so far is that you cannot adjust the size of the clock at all or change it to take up the full screen like you can with the Echo Show 5. Also, during the day the clock does not display the date, however when it switches to night mode it displays the date which seems backward and somewhat counterintuitive. Also had some trouble getting Alexa to recognize individual stocks for stock updates. Biggest complaint would be that you have to buy the stand separate for $25, when it should come with it.

This was the Best Buy ever! Everyone has one in our home. I love being able to set reminders, play music, ask Alexa questions, watch YouTube, and even check in on my little ones in their room (we have a blink camera in their room) to see what they are doing. My kiddos can even video call me if they need anything! I also have smart lights and can use Alexa to operate them.

Got this for my mom awhile back and she loves it and uses it almost everyday - whether its for putting a timer on for cooking or checking the weather, there are so many things to do with this echo that make life a lot easier for my mom who is a bit older. Fits perfectly in the kitchen and got a stand so it looks great on display.

I absolutely love this little gadget! I have it in my kitchen and every morning I tell Alexa to play the news and play my music and she gets my day started. The video and sound are amazing especially coming from such a small box. You do need to set it up with your phone by downloading the app and after that, it is pretty easy to follow the directions for set up. You can program it to your own personal likings. It doesn’t take up much space. I have it on a shelf which is eye level: the problem is that the video shows my ceiling, so I need to add something underneath to slant it downwards or invest in a swivel stand. Other than that, it is great!

Didn't think I'd ever need something like this but it has turned into a necessity. Mine is in my kitchen and I ask for the news update as soon as I walk in there. If I want more detailed coverage of the world I can chose from several stations. Aside from that and the music stations, podcasts or audio books I look up recipes that can be saved for later reference! And even listen or watch my favorite shoe. Now connected to the Ring camera I dont have to go to the door while in the middle of cooking.

    Love the Echo

We have the first Echo Show and love it. The sound that comes out of the little speaker is wonderful! So, we bought this one as a gift for my parents. First, the screen is huge. It is a lot bigger than what I had imagined. The sound is crisp and of excellent quality. We plan on upgrading ours to a bigger screen and use the smaller one for a smaller room. It can be tricky to get things set up and to connect to phones and tablets but customer service is great. My only complaint is that we also have the Arlo security system (we love) and it hooked right up to the older Echo but took over 5 hours to get it to work on the Echo 8. That is also a known issue that they are working on. Overall, my parents love it.

I bought this for my parents and love love being able to see rotating pictures and make video calls to us. My mom is a music teacher and she loves the ease of calling up stations or songs and getting to see the lyrics. My dad is a Phys. Ed. teacher so getting team updates is fun for him. Calling up recipes, the weather, books from kindle, controlling all of our Christmas lights with one command (we have Kasa smart plugs and ordered some for my parents too) it’s pretty much a ten out of ten for us.

I wish I used it for more then an over glorified bedside clock, I don't even use the alarm function! Otherwise I absolutely love it lol. Only complaint I have is the "Amazon Ads" I do wish I could disable that and if I can, I have yet to learn how lol. But hey, occasionally it shows me something cool in those Ads, so I don't hate them. Eventually I want to get one for my Mother so the family can easily and quickly video chat with their Grandma.

Great device. Bigger screen than better sound, I have ES 5. Not too bad, but overtime you can feel that it's too small. So I use the 5 just mainly for clock. I wish they remove try this try that messages, so annoying. Also, you can't voice command to adjust screen brightness, That's kind of dumb,

Great piece, fair price and good looking! Perfect size. weighted bottom sits well on counter. Big text clock visual and sleep mode size reduction. microphones captures voice request well in medium noise enviroment. Speakers sound good with nice bass acoustics. Easy to set-up and intergrate into smart home system. Camera does well and has a super easy to slide security shutter to cover lens for privacy. In the setting options there are some nice features and preferences. Over all, for me... I like this product and may buy another in the future.

I have had two of these for over a year now. I like the ease of use on these and the displays are good along with the information displayed. The downsides I have seen are that sometimes they become unresponsive or have errors not displaying what I have set them to. They also seem to have speaker errors sometimes where something sounds off, like the speaker is in a tin can, and the fix I have found to work is unplugging and plugging back in. While this is a small and easy fix, it is still slightly annoying to have to do every few weeks it seems like. Overall good items, when they decide to work properly.
