it would not load my books proper. took a dozen tries erasing an dreregistering. screen too dark

Doesn’t support reading applications which makes you to buy books only from amazon

It's ok product. It's really small too. I didn't really use much after I bought it.

Not good for reading in bed. No light to brighten screen

I was unable to find a case for this Kindle and searched at three additional Best Buy stores. At the third store the store representative in Millbury opened up the brand new Kindle I picked up in Leominster and discovered it was sold broken with a cracked screen.

This is my 7th Kindle. I was shocked to find it does not have an adjustable backlight. That seems like such a basic feature and I am surprised Amazon is selling a model that does not have it. I cannot imagine it would add much to the production cost.

The screen is too dark, and cannot adjust the brightness

I have managed to get one book on it. I have read the manual twice. The reader has no back light. And that’s why you can read it in the sun and not in the dark!

Am used to Kindle Fire which I love. No light to read by in the dark. Hard to navigate. This was a gift - would never purchase on my own.

I ended up returning it. Not very user friendly. I guess an ipad would do a better job.

Code didn't work, Shutterfly wouldn't respond. Tried several times, no good.

I bought the Amazon Kindle so I could enjoy reading without lugging around multiple books. I usually read my ebooks on the Kindle app but I have gotten frustrated with my phone/tablet going into sleep mode. This Kindle is sufficient for my needs. I purchased a reading light for when I'm in low-light situations and it works very well. I am satisfied with my purchase.

Nice basic reader. Had the first model kindle and this is quite a bit lighter

Plenty of storage if you are not using audio books. My only complaint is it did not have a built in light.

The Kindle is very light weight and fits in my back jean's pocket. It is a good book reader in a well lighted room or on a shady porch. The battery lasts a heavy reader about two weeks. BUT, its "big brother” the Paperwhite, adds built-in lighting so you can read in bed and the Paperwhite has slightly better sharpness and contrast. If you read only during the day, the basic Kindle is a good choice. If you read in bed, pay the higher price for a Paperwhite.

After not useing it for a year the battery stoped charging

The specifications for this Kindle states that it has a backlight, which is false. You cannot use it in the dark without a source of light. Spend the extra $10 and get the newer generation which has a built in light for the screen.
