I like how the highlights can be color-coded as an annotate. The way I annotate to my actual book. I’m very happy with this kindle.

I do really like this as someone who highlights a LOT in my books as I read. I love being able to highlight in different colors like when I read on my phone or iPad kindle apps. However, for this price point, I think you’re better off with the new black & white paperwhite signature instead.

Colors, yellow tinge, and visible page texture

I just got it. Mine also has the yellow tinge at the bottom that everyone else is experiencing. What’s more strange to me is getting used fo the denim-like texture of the color layer that makes the white space look fuzzy/textured. I’m curious to see what Amazon does about the feedback. I am upgrading from a 2013 Kindle Paperwhite. If I end up grabbing my 10+ year-old Paperwhite more often than this new ($300) Colorsoft, then I will probably return the new device.

Get the 12th gen PW or PW SE

So instead of doing the trade on Amazon I decided to sell my 11th gen PW SE with hopes of becoming an iPad mini 7 girlie. Well that was so nice reading on my new mini but I missed the form factor of a kindle, waterproof and having a distraction free device so I decided to get the 12th gen PW SE after a big price mislabeling and rewards I broke even after buying a case for it so no love or money lost. Welllll I was having FOMO like why did I settle when I knew I wanted the colorsoft. So what did I do place an order at Best Buy to compare the two and let me just say I returned the colorsoft after literally 1 hr of testing it out. I did not think it was terrible grain since I wear glasses, set the bold to max and read at a 12pt font but putting the two side by side I knew I made the right decision by getting the 12th edition. The 2 main things that the colorsoft failed on were the darkness of the screen and the death yellow bar on the bottom and side/s. I would wait guys or get a iPad mini or kindle fire with matte screen protector to read in color. I did quickly realize that I do enjoy reading on the mini if I want color so until Amazon fixes this my 12th gen PW SE and mini 7 are perfect. I read that it could be a adhesive issue which is a hardware not software fix and I am upset that Amazon has not addressed and pulled this entirely and went back to the drawing board. They see that kindle lovers couldn’t wait for this but they should have had better QCers and randomly sent these to customers to review vs influencers. Unless it’s sent to me or given/bought for me I wouldn’t buy the colorsoft.

Just what I wanted!

I had an old 2021-era Kindle which was tiny and light and so much easier to tote around than iPad (and less distracting too). However, I read a lot of comic books and the thought of carrying a small, portable color reader had a lot of appeal.
The good news is that it is just the little portable color comic book reader I wanted. it works well, the books look beautiful (although the color is muted) and I do love it dearly. I bought a MagSafe case so I can use MagSafe pop sockets for easy holding AND MagSafe charging. I love MagSafe.
I bought it full price a week before Prime Day and of course it went on sale on Prime and Best Buy. I was happy to discover that it was easy to go online and have Best Buy refund the sale price difference.
I am disappointed (but not surprised) that it is larger and heavier than my old Kindle, but overall, I am totally happy with it.

Decent hardware but software features are outdated

This is a decent product, hardware-wise; but unfortunately it is lacking in its software capabilities.
The hardware - For its price it should really have page-turn buttons, if not note taking capability. Competitive device from Kobo not only offers page-turn buttons, but also note-taking capabilities (via a separate pen, which can be procured cheaply if you buy any generic one). There are two redeeming qualities of this device. Firstly, its colors are indeed slightly better than devices from Kobo/Boox etc. But the difference is so slight that you really will have to be looking for it in a side-by-side comparison. Secondly, its processor is the best amongst e-readers, and page turning etc. is very snappy. Of course, not as good as a regular tablet, but best in its class nonetheless.
Software - This is where Kindles are now way behind, and Amazon does not seem to be showing much interest in developing the software further. Some examples - There is no way to turn off automated hyphenation. Even regular words of normal length will often wrap around to the next line. All fonts have automated hyphenation. Personally, I hate hyphenation and find it jarring. Of course, not everyone will care about this so much, but I find it odd that Amazon’s flagship product is missing a basic reading setting.
Another issue - No way to customize page turn options. So if you are lying in bed, holding the kindly in your left hand, you cannot set the left zone to move ahead. The left zone will always be set to go back. So you are relegated to trying to swipe with your left thumb instead of tapping.
I can go on and on about other software shortcomings. Basically, Amazon really needs to update their software to catch up to competition in this regard.

I LOVE the Kindle Colorsoft!

I just bought my Kindle Colorsoft yesterday, and I’m already spoiled. If you’d like to be able to highlight in color on your Kindle, read comics in color, or see any illustrations in color, this is the kindle for you! Because the display has the added color layer, it is slightly darker, and if you look closely, there is a very fine grain to it, which gives the page a textured appearance similar to a newspaper. Personally, I think this makes it easier to read on than the paperwhite. Just know that unless you’re reading in a well lit room, you’re probably going to want to use the backlight!

Went from Paperwhite to Colorsoft

So, i started with a Fire tablet that i used for about 4 years. I used it primarily for reading. It became slow, and it was heavy to take on vacation. So, I decided to go to a Kindle Paperwhite. Don’t me wrong, this is a perfectly respectable reader and I really liked it!!!,..light weight and very portable! But man….after the Fire, I sooo missed the color! Even if it was just the book jackets!! So, I bought the colorsoft! I had some anxiety because of people talking about a “yellow band” at the bottom of the reader. Others didn’t. So I rolled the dice, I got it the other day. NO YELLOW BAND. And i just love it! Someone said they fixed this in a prior update. I’m happy, happy!!! Will keep my paperwhite as a backup.

I really enjoy this E-reader, I know it does not have the buttons like the Oasis and some are complaining about the yellow line, which I don’t seem to notice. I love simplicity when it comes to my E-reader, because, well, that is it’s purpose. Would it be great for Kindle to team up with other book sources and make it easy to download from there, yes, of course. But i’s not impossible. In my opinion, I love this Kindle and it works for me and my lifestyle, other people are more Avid readers than myself and maybe they need those other e-readers with the option to write in them and so on. But if you’re a person who enjoys reading and loves to see the books in your device in color and does not mind being in the Kindle/Amazon loop, but also putting in some extra effort to download books from other sources, well then, the Kindle Colorsoft is your thing.

My wife loved her birthday gift!

I bought this Kindle for my wife as her birthday present along with a trip to the beach.
Couldn't have chosen a better gift! She put in hours of reading her favorite books in her favorite spot. With her feet in the water!
She mentioned several pros about this particular Kindle, like the fact that she felt confortable getting close to the water because it is waterproof. She also mentioned that the screen was nice and clear even under the shining sun.
At night she mentioned that the size of it makes it convenient to carry around and the battery lasts forever.
Very happy with my purchase and Best Buy gave me a free photobook which I already redeemed with all my wifes birthday pictures.
