It was time to replace my old 3rd gen Kindle and thought this would be a nice upgrade. I've used a tablet to read as well, but I find e-ink devices easier to read for long periods and with much less glare. Pros - The device feels solid, and the thicker side with the battery makes it easier to hold one-handed. It's fairly responsive and downloads books quickly. Cons - The automatic light adjustment doesn't work well. It would often turn up all the way in a well-lit room or outside and would turn almost off in a dark room. More than once I had to reboot the device because it would lock up, especially if you try to queue up several book downloads at once. The page turn buttons would sometimes change several pages instead of just one (this appears to be a common complaint). The touch sensitivity extended almost 1cm into the button area by the screen, which often caused me to accidentally flip pages if my thumb moved too far over. The same extended area did not exist on the other side of the screen.

Cool Design but Software is blah!

I'm 20% into a book on my Oasis and I have a good grip on how I feel about the Oasis. It is a real cool gadget and it's thin as can be! I love how light it is and the page turning buttons are a hoot! The software is a little archaic and gee whiz I am so over the advertisements when I wake the Oasis from sleeping. I have other expensive devices and none of them try to over advertise when I wake them up. That for me is a super big downfall since this is a expensive piece of equipment. I also love that it has a dictionary built in because it brushes up my knowledge of words if I find one I am not familiar with. So get this if you don't mind dropping a good chunk of money but the software needs some real updating!

    Voyager is Better

I like this device the page turn, the lights - not such a fan of the size. Wish it fit in my pocket like the Voyager did. It is an awkward size and they don’t make an effective origami cover for it. I know because I now own 3 different versions. So maybe a 3.5 star rating because my complaint is the size not the operation and the lack of an effective origami cover
