First of all I purchased this after a lot of online shopping and comparing other brands. I have a Tablet that I did not enjoy reading on due to the weight. I went into the Best Buy store in my local mall and after playing with it I was hooked. I purchase the Kindle Paperwhite and I am completely satisfied. I did forget about sound for audio books but that's ok I'm still very happy. Its easy to use. Not hard to learn how to use it. I even learned how to do screen shots and how to upload my own items. I find that getting onto some public wifi a bit tricky but possible. I have Special Offers on mine and it does NOT bother me and some look quite nice especially the discounted book items. Hint, remove the suggested items taking up 1/2 of the Home Page in your settings. Go to Device options/ Personalize your Kindle and turn off the Recommended Content. I was also worried about lack of a SD card and storage. NO NEED! All my books are in the cloud until I want to read them you will NEVER use up all that space. I have been playing with my Kindle a lot this first week, so I am not sure about during normal use how long the battery will last. But when not online or using to high a light setting It should be charged for at least the 8 weeks they say it will last. I was surprised that the majority of the time I don't even need the light on at all to read. I have only used the lighting feature in the dark reading in bed. I'm sure that will keep battery usage to a minimum. charges up in about 3-4 hours via universal USB dongle or use your computer. I had to reboot it once but I think it was because it started an auto update and I thought it was stuck. (oops). the touch screen is amazingly sensitive and responds very fast. It fits very wll into my purse. Over all I am very happy with my purchase and I will be recommending it to all my friends and family.

I've been using my kindle paperwhite for almost a month now. I've mainly been downloading books and figuring out all it can do (which is quite a bit). Overall I'm quite impressed. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy an eReader. I have honestly been completely against them until as of late. I decided that I would try it out when I realized that my love of books cannot fit in the small home I share with my roommates, and it's also been quite heavy when I've moved. As a college student, about to graduate I'm not sure where I'm going, so the weight of all the books I can fit on my kindle is extremely more manageable than those on my bookshelves. Here is one of the main reasons digital books are beneficial. The next reason that brought me to this purchase was the fact that when I want to read a book that I don't own I want to buy it immediately. Most of the time, I decide this when bookstores are closed or when I can't make the trip. So I love that I am able to have a novel on my kindle in mere seconds, and with the touch of my finger. I am a bit of a traveler, as in whenever I can afford to go somewhere and I don't have class, I travel. I love to take several books with me where ever I go because I'm not sure of what I'll be in the mood to read. Carrying one kindle is much easier than trying to fit three hardback books into a checked bag while staying under the weight limit for free checked luggage. If you're searching for solely an eReader, as in you only want the device for reading, I would highly recommend the paperwhite. The page size is about the same of a paperback novel and although you aren't able to turn the page, you quickly become accustomed to the act of swiping or tapping the screen. I didn't like to hold the tablet by itself because it felt artificial to me, so I purchased a case that, when opened, mimics the feel of holding both sides of a book. It's simple to use and has a large selection of books, both for purchase and for free download. Also, if you have an Amazon prime membership you have access to the shared library and can even borrow books!

For once, the slogan for a device says it all: The Kindle Paperwhite is the best device for reading. Period. I can't say enough how much I love my new Kindle. At $120 it was a bit of a splurge but so, so worth it! Honestly, the covers and adapters aren't nearly as much of a deal as the device itself, (which is easily solved with a little bit of research and bargain shopping). For starters, the Kindle Paperwhite is extremely attractive. It has a sleek, ergonomic, black matte design, and feels incredibly durable in your hand. At no point do you get the sense that you're going to destroy the thing. In fact, I often have to remind myself that my Kindle IS breakable, and try not to fall asleep on it in bed. It's also the absolute perfect size! It fits in your hand like it was made for it, is small and light but is also large enough not to be a strain to read. I'm very much a goldilocks kind of girl--I get annoyed with things that are too much, as well as too little. It's the perfect weight, size, and the touch-screen has a very good middle ground sensitivity level. Technologically I haven't had any issues with my Kindle yet. It manages to pack a bunch of really cool features into a very user-friendly design. The ability to highlight/make notes/use the dictionary/wikipedia for terms/the x-ray feature/etc. are all super useful. I also love the Vocabulary Builder. Any word you look up in the dictionary from a book you're reading is automatically added to the Vocabulary Builder for concise review in the future. Probably the best technological feature of the Paperwhite, however, is the backlit screen. It makes reading so, so much easier! You don't have to deal with lamps, mediocre lighting on trains and planes, annoying book lights or straining your eyes. The backlight is incredibly adjustable, and can be customized to the ideal light for any type of environment you're in. You can turn it off if you're reading outside, have it lit very dimly if you're in a dark room and don't want to strain your eyes, or have it nice and bright for travel. And the battery life! I STILL haven't charged it since the first time, and I've had it for weeks and read it every night before bed. Really the only downside to Paperwhite, (and all Kindles in general, really) is the cost of accessories and even the books themselves. I personally am a big fan of the free classics, which primarily make up the library my Paperwhite. There's a pretty good selection. I also have an Amazon Prime membership (a must-have for any Amazon shopper) so I have access to renting thousands of books in the Amazon library for free. I haven't yet, but it's a really cool option. Most of the stuff I actually buy for the Kindle are inexpensive Science journals and articles, and sometimes the sale books...Regardless, this one downside isn't the fault of the device itself. The thing is flawless.

I downloaded the Kindle and nook aps on my samsung tablet about a year ago and loved the convenience of being able to impluse buy books like I used to when I lived in Denver. The problem was the battery life on my tablet. I am a marathon reader. When I read, I will read for hours on end-days in a row. So I looked into buying an e-reader. It took me awhile to convince myself to spend the money on one because I swore I'd never get one. There really is nothing better than the smell of a brand new book, but I continued to look. I have to say, it was the best decision I've made. I chose this particular one because it was a simple e-reader. Kindle has one out that has more bells and whistles, but I already have a tablet for that. This e-reader is just that, an e-reader. I was surprised at how paper like the screen actually was. I spent 5 mintues outside trying to get tjhe screen to glare. I was finally ableto get it to glare, but it was in a position that is impossible to read in. The adjustable back lighting is wonderful. I can read just before bed without keeping my boyfriend up from the light being to bright. I love being able to use the dictionary to immediately view words I may not know. Or being able to use the x-ray feature to view a brief description of a character in the book. (Not all books have this feature unfortunately) I love being able to adjust the font, size, margin, and line spacing to get everything down to just about the same as a real paperback book. I love that is just an e-reader. I only have 2 issues with it and they are pretty minor. I wish I could get the kindle suggestions off of the lock screen and the battery life isn't really 8 weeks in use. Since you can't really turn it off, letting it sit without using it the battery will last weeks at a time. I didn't use ot for 2 weeks and it barely moved the battery bar. However, using it with the back lighting and WIFI on at the rate I read, it only lasts a week. That being said, if I had the option to buy it again or chose something else, I wwouldn't hesitate at buying it again. I love this paperwhite. It goes wherever I go now. It's perfect size to keep it in my purse. This product is not for people who want an e-reader with bells and whistles. But if what you want is a real simple and plain e-reader, this is the one you want. It is perfect if what you want is simple. I would (and have already) recommend this kindle to my friends and family. (Pretty sure I just talked my mom into one and she is a bigger reader than I am)

Let me start by saying that I am an avid reader and iPad user. I am and always have been extremely loyal to my iPads. In fact, I have two iPads...and iPad mini and an iPad with retina display. Both of my iPads are amazing in their own right and the one with retina display even more so. I used the iPad mini to read because of its convenient size in comparison with my larger iPad. However, reading on them in any kind of daylight is a challenge and not visually comfortable in the least. So I decided to purchase the Kindle Paperwhite. I was initially concerned about the lighting complaints I was reading about on the original Paperwhite so I was undecided. I was thrilled when I learned that Amazon was releasing a new version of their Paperwhite. I ordered it immediately. I AM HOOKED! For reading, there is absolutely no comparison. Even my super retina display iPad doesn't come close. I have started to neglect my poor little iPads and take my Kindle Paperwhite everywhere I go. The resolution is amazing. You can see it crisply and clearly in any type of lighting. You can adjust the screen lighting to your desired brightness. It is light and easy to hold. I have small hands and holding it is not an issue because of how light it is. It can be held so comfortably that I don't even want to put it in a case...even though I know I should protect it. It is absolutely perfect in every way. The lighting is not streaky or blotchy as others have mentioned with their original Paperwhite. It has actually made me want to read more. I have the version with the advertisements and they do not hinder at all while reading. They simply come up on your screen if your Kindle is left dormant and can be made to disappear with a mere flick of your finger. It is amazing and as far as I am concerned...the best e-reader out there!

This is the third Kindle PW I've purchased from Best Buy. The first was for myself about 2 years ago, after having owned 4 Sony Reader models. I love my Sonys, but Sony has pulled out of the eReader market, and the allure of the PW with the built-in light was too hard to resist. Although many other brands of electronic readers have built-in lights, scalable fonts and many other of the same features as the Kindle PW, the Kindle has excelled in combining all the best features (and more) into a great design and moved to the head of the class. The second PW I purchased was a gift for my sister to replace the clunky Kindle Keyboard model she'd been using (and loving) for years. She loves HER new PW too. I just purchased a third PW for my daughter who had drifted away from her love of reading due to the increased discomfort of holding and carrying around print books. She has now discovered a new comfort level in the portability and features of the PW, and rediscovered her love of reading. I read well over 100 books a year and the PW has made it much more comfortable and enjoyable. I would still love to have a physical page turn button. I still miss not having one on the PW. My experience has been that it's MUCH more comfortable and actually easier to read with a physical button. Also, I would like the PW to be capable of direct downloads from lending libraries (just as Sony Readers are). The way it works now is to go online to your library, borrow a book, click download, which sends you to the Amazon site, you sign in and need to click to download from there. More steps than should be necessary, but still not extremely inconvenient in the grand scheme of things. An expansion slot for an SD card for additional storage would be nice also, but not really a big deal. Given time, if Amazon pays close attention to customer feedback, these few shortcomings (if you can even call them shortcomings at all) will be addressed and these (and more) additional desired features will be incorporated into future hardware models and/or firmware updates. Kindle will continue to lead the pack in this digital reading niche. As an added note, I would recommend purchasing the official Kindle Paperwhite cover as well. It's beautiful, sturdy protection that fits like a glove and adds very little weight and no bulk to the reader.

My passion is reading - I waited and debated a long time about purchasing an e-reader. (I like the feel of a book in my hands.) I went with the Paper White because it is ONLY for reading. The screen is also great for reading in all lighting (I have friends with "shiny screen readers/tablets" who bemoan the glare off the screen. I am excited every time I download a new book. I can read "in the dark" without disturbing others (such as on a night flight overseas) or in bed at night. Now instead of having thousands of books (really) in my home, I can carry that many and more in my Kindle which fits nicely into my purse. (No more worrying about extra weight in my luggage for all the books I take on a trip - I can't be without a book! Now I don't have to worry about it.) My Kindle goes everywhere I go! I found that the battery life needed a boost when I traveled to Africa. Fortunately, before I left (fearing running out of time in my Kindle), I purchased a "USB power stick" that I fully charged before my trip. Then, when my Kindle was on its last "breath," I plugged it into the power stick - wow, full battery in no time. I would recommend travelers, especially those traveling to places without our ease of "plugging into electricity for recharging," purchase such a devise--they can add many hours of enjoyment to their reading. When I bought my e-reader, I also bought the hard Kindle cover - it protects the screen (and my books) in my purse, in my hands, on the table. When I open/close the cover, it automatically opens/closes my book (without loosing my location in the book). Just like the Kindle, it is compact, attractive, user friendly.

This is my first e-reader. I've owned an iPad for years. Why get a Kindle? For one, I've gotten pain in my wrist (carpel tunnel) from holding my iPad 3 while I read at night. Also there is no good way to dim an iPad at night. It lights up the whole room. I've been checking more books out on Amazon and getting tired of always seeing "borrow for free on your Kindle." So I mentioned it to my wife who immediately bought me one. I've been very pleased with it. It's lighter than a paperback and easier to read too because you can adjust the text size. The battery lasts a long time. Every week or so I plug it in overnight and I've never yet gotten close to running down the battery. Downloading books is super fast and navigating is very intuitive. My few gripes... It has a web browser they label as "experimental." More like "temperamental." There are pages that bug out. I've found I only use it to download books from Project Gutenberg, an awesome site to get many old books for free. Don't buy it as a web browser without trying it in store first. My other main gripe is that highlighting text is clunky on the Kindle. On an iPad Kindle app, I can highlight and it's fluid and easy. On the Kindle, it's slow and awkward and often takes multiple tries to select the right text. I'm getting better over time, but it is annoying. The last gripe is that when I shut off the Kindle, it displays an ad on the screen. I wouldn't mind if the ads were better targeted, but it always seems to show stuff I would never think of even browsing. Overall I'm glad to have it. I am reading more books. I especially enjoy not having the clutter of paper books and the ability to read at night while my wife is sleeping. If I lost it I would probably replace it with the same model. It is well made and a pleasure to use.

My wife got a Kindle Paperwhite in March 2013 after her original Kindle gave out. It’s just what she wanted. Able to read in bed without external light and easily in the sun. Vacationing in Florida last week I decided I needed one for in the sun. Researched and read many reviews online about the new Kindle/Amazon Paperwhite being brighter than the previous. Not knowing if that meant brighter than my wife’s I still bought one from Best Buy Mobile. Was terribly disappointed after firing it up to find the screen was darker than my wife’s when comparing the same text. Both light levels were at the max. My wife suggested I live with it but my gut said something was not right. I could NOT live with this. I returned to the Best Buy Mobile store with hers and mine. They immediately saw hers was brighter than mine. They compared mine with the store model and saw the store model was brighter than mine. Not having any more in stock they sent me to the Best Buy store in Clearwater. The young lady at the Returns Counter was fabulous. She also saw the difference immediately. She got a new Paperwhite off the shelf and turned it on. It was amazingly whiter than my wife’s. She registered the new unit, I downloaded my books and saw the comparison was appreciably brighter than my wife’s. (And hers is VERY bright!) I notice the new one from Clearwater Best Buy also seems to have different software than the one I got at Best Buy Mobile. More options. Very strange. But true. Moral of the story is twofold: 1. Trust your gut and 2. Purchase from Best Buy. Love my “Bright” Kindle Paperwhite.

I love my books! The smell, the feel, the black print against the white page....I always have a book on me. I never thought that I would like the Kindle. I am on a computer 8 hours a day at work and I don't want to come home and get back on a "computer" to read. But someone told me to try a Kindle Paperwhite - so I did, and I LOVE IT ! ! ! ! ! I has about the same weight as a paper back and it is about the same size. It is very easy to read outside or inside. And with the handy little light, I can read at night in bed and not wake anyone up. It does not hurt my eyes and I can make the print bigger if I have forgot my glasses (again). One of the best parts is that my hands do not ache for holding a book for so long reading - it is so thin. I can't believe the GREAT price to download books. All the old classics that I have been putting off cause I didn't want to spend $$$ on them, I got quite a few for free and others for 1.99. I can't even get them at a used book store for that price. Even the book series I have been reading for the last year cost about the same price as what I pay at a used book store. I have had my Kindle White for about a month now and I cant say enough. I do still have all my books but I love my kindle too!

I use to read on the iPad, but then decided to get the Paperwhite after seeing my Mother-in laws . I didn't even own one at the time, but was able to show her in 5 minutes how to set up everything. Very easy to navigate, easy to switch between devise and what I have saved in my Amazon cloud. I can also easily deregister and reregister to my daughters Amazon account to read her books. Love the lighting. Easily adjusted from bright to dim, depending on surroundings . Very easy on the eyes plus the size font can be adjusted for every age group. Mainly wanted it because it is small , light , has the built in light and fits easily in my purse, so I always have my books with me. I can easily read outside or at the beach. Too much glare on the iPad. LOVE the new Paperwhite and it's price doesn't break the bank. Lots of free books available too, so not a lot of added expense.

I upgraded from the basic version of the Kindle after using it for two and a half years. I was hesitant to pay nearly twice as much for the Paperwhite, but in the end decided that with how much I use it, it would be worth the extra money. The backlight on this thing is a great feature. It really adds a great contrast to the text that increases how nice it already was to read the e-Ink display. And of course it doesn't hurt that you can read it in the dark too. I was surprised how much heavier the Paperwhite is than my old Kindle; it's almost twice the weight. Still, with the rubberized plastic on the back, I always feel like it is solidly in my hand. And I guess they had to make it heavier to keep the battery life nice and long. I don't get quite the battery length that Amazon claims, but that's because I read for more than the rated 30 minutes per day. All in all, it's a great product that I'm very happy with!

I had to replace my older Kindle after it met with a very unfortunate accident and was no longer covered by warranty. I decided to go with the Kindle Paperwhite because I liked the idea of not needing any additional lighting. My previous Kindle I had in a case that had a built in light, which was fine, but this doesn't even need that. There are never any glare issues, adjusting the contrast is extremely simple. I got it with special offers to save a little $$ and they are not obtrusive, you see it only when you turn the device on and with a swipe they're gone. You'd have to swipe it to get past the welcome screen anyway. It's lightweight and unlike tablet based readers (like the Fire) you don't have to swipe to turn the page, it's a simple tap. The battery life is excellent. I always keep the wireless off unless I'm downloading something which prolongs the charge. Switching the wireless back on is very simple. If you just want an e-reader, this is the device to get.

I bought this kindle because I was going on a 3 week vacay to Hawaii and wanted something to read on the beach and by the pool. I've an iPad but you cannot see the screen in the sun. This kindle paper white worked PERFECT!!! I'm a 3-5 book per week reader so I always have something to read while I'm out and about. This kindle is perfect. The only small problem I had was trying to connect to the wifi @the hotel and the Starbucks. Although I was waiting on a couple of new releases while I was on vacay. I could not get them on my kindle but I was still able to get them on my iPad. If I didn't have my iPad I would have been a little upset since I could not download any existing books other than the few I had already downloaded before I left my house. If I had to buy this kindle I would definately get the 3G kindle paper white. But since I used my iPad more than my kindle I am completely satisfied with my purchase!!!

My wife was looking to read a collection of books but they were expensive, so she asked me a cheaper way to read books, so after a deep research I decided to buy this reader to her... the device is incredible intuitive, simple, useful and has a nice touch surface. She started reading from zero to 2-3 books by month and now she is addicted to reading. I have tried it a lot and I just started to love it too, it's awesome. I have bought a couple of books from Amazon and it’s very simple, and the catalogue in English or Spanish is huge.. and the price is quite lower than printed versions. The only bad thing I have found is the restriction about the .epub format, since I found all books on such way, so I have to convert them into .mobi or any compatible format. By other hand, it would be nice to have a little bigger screen (7” at least) since my mother tried it too but she complained about it. Not the big deal but is something. I can’t wait to get the new version of this Kindle... I highly recommend this Kindle to anyone.

this was purchased as a replacement for my 1st Gen Kindle, which I loved but the battery finally wouldn't hold a charge. I was worried this new version would be far too small, and therefore difficult to hold, etc. but I was wrong. Other than being easier to misplace around my house... it's easy to hold and I'm getting used to the 'swipe' to turn the page vs. the buttons. I WILL say I liked the buttons because you could use either hand easily, vs. the swipe that isn't as convenient to do with either hand. Minor, and I'll get used to it, I'm sure. The bright white of the page is a big improvement over my old Kindle, and I never had a complaint about the old one! Guess I never realized how much better it could be. Finding and downloading new titles is much easier with the new interface as well. Far more intuitive. You will not be disappointed with the Paperwhite.

The Kindle Paperwhite is the perfect e-reader for first time e-reader users. Easy to set up and use right out of the box, weeks long battery life, and great for reading in dim lighting. The only gripe I have about it (or any of the Amazon Kindle e-readers and apps) is that the auto-sync (saving the location/page where you left off) is mainly for only 1 user. So if you and another person are reading the same book at the same time, there is no way to save locations individually (except by using the bookmark feature), and even if each reader is reading on a separate Kindle, it will always sync to the last read page, unless you turn off WhisperSync. I wish there was an option to save the same book to 2 different collections/readers, especially when a family or children are sharing 1 Kindle. Nevertheless, the Paperwhite is still a great product, perfect for traveling and reading just about anywhere.

This is the third kindle I have owned. I still have the first one but decided to upgrade to the paperwhite. The second one was a paperwhite and it was great. I took it on with me to Afghanistan on deployment and it held up great until the last month when I dropped it for about the 50th time and it finally stopped working. I can't fault the manufacture as it turned out to be quite rugged, I would definitely say I put it through more abuse than your average user probably would Buying books is simple on the amazon website and easy enough with the kindle browser as well if you are connected to WiFi. The only reason I didn't mark the battery life as excellent is that it the WiFi tends to eat up the battery life even when it is turned off. When it is on the battery lasts less than a week. However, When I have it set to airplane mode it has lasted me 30+ days of daily use on a single charge

    Couldn't be happier . . .

My wife bought me a Paperwhite for Christmas and I couldn't be happier. I do most of my reading in bed, and used to have to use some sort of small flashlight balanced on my shoulder while I held the book in my hand. I have astigmatisms, so I HAD to wear my glasses as well. The Paperwhite put an end to all of that. It has its own back-light, and I can adjust the font so that I don't have to wear glasses. So much easier to read! I have downloaded several free books that should keep me busy for quite some time. My son gave me a protective neoprene sleeve (also for Christmas) that fits the unit like a glove. Most impressive is the fact the the Paperwhite is EVENLY back-lit, (no dark shadows around the edges of the screen) and you can adjust the brightness so that it is just about perfect for whatever lighting conditions you happen to be in.

My wife has had a kindle for some time now, and since I started reading more, I thought I would get one of my own. I'm glad I did. It's a great way to be able to have all my books in one place and to save my notes and highlights so that I can see them later. It's much better than reading on a computer: clearer and better on my eyes. We've had trouble sometimes connecting to WIFI with our devices, but can usually succeed by restarting either the device, our WIFI router, or both. We usually don't need to connect to WIFI very often while reading, so it's not a big deal. We just make sure we can connect when we want to download a new book or upload our highlights if we're going to read them on another device (like the Kindle app for the computer). I bought the 2013 version and was surprised at how well the keypad works. You can't expect computer or tablet-like speeds, but it works for what you need it to do.
