    best e-ink ebook available

If you are an avid reader, e-ink is the way to go and not backlit tablet, save those for your apps and games. I prefer ebook purchase, search and reviews found on Amazon, and their points & gift card policy makes more sense than B&N's. [Random thoughts follow...] The Nook Glow has a nice button on the front for easier access to some options where sometimes the Paperwhite [PW] screen is a bit slow when trying to touch it just right to get the same access. The Glow gives you a battery percentage indicator rather than just the shaded bar on the PW. The PW has much cleaner screen reading and better lighting. The Glow allows you to set the screen time-out. Both "flash" a bit when you turn pages with the lighting on in a dark room. Someone has to make book sorting & folder management easier (that doesn't mess with the "cloud" inventory management) like a simple way for allowing the user to add a numbering system for series books. I would also like book descriptions stored with the book and not just available over the net. I would also like a way to turn off "one-touch" ordering and make it less easy to accidently "buy" something. The PW uses "Airplane mode" on or off for disabling the wifi connection. It should be Turn Wifi on or off firstly and not airplane mode for those of us that do not fly regularly. I prefer highlighting on the PW over the Glow, it has easier moveable "hooks" at the start and end. With PW I was able to access my highlight notes on a book after my elibrary checkout was over and was able to copy the file to my pc for additional edits too. I'm not sure the Glow could do this? So far I've preferred the PW dictionary look up to the Glow, but I've only been reading about a month or so on the PW (the Glow seemed to give many definitions in terms of other versions of the same word, useless). So in summary, with the exception of that nook button on the front, the battery percentage indicator, and the ability to set time-outs, I find most everything a bit better or more intuitive on the paperwhite, but both need some work on book management.

I have 3 Kindles. This one definitely the best one. It's lightweight, has a wonderful back light which makes it easy to read even in complete darkness without irritating my eyes and you don't have to arrange yourself under the source of light and keep the same position. It's very important especially if you spend lots of hours reading books. It holds the charge very well. The only thing that I didn't like so far is that this kindle doesn't have an output for headphones which means no audible books any more, and for some reason Amazon doesn't include chargers into the package with recent models of ebook readers and Kindle fire any more which means that you will have to pay for it separately, unless if you have a charger from previous models or a windows phone charger. You can use the included usb cable to charge it from your computer but it's too much time consuming. Also I had a problem with one of my books that has lots of diagrams and pictures in it. For some reason all the diagrams and pictures are running out of the border of the screen which means that you would have to lose lots of time to scroll every picture to the right every time to see the content. It's a little bit weird because I didn't have any problems with the same book on previous models of Kindle with the same size of the screen, but it just that one book so I don't even no if the problem is related to the content or the book reader by itself. Overall very happy with the purchase. Will definitely recommend to anyone.

Our family share a Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and I have my own iPod Touch, but I just wanted a device for reading only so I won't be distracted by any other apps. Mission accomplished! I LOVE how light it is, even with a simple pleather cover and the battery life is AMAZING. What adds to the amazing is I've only been on the lowest light setting but I can easily read in daylight, darkness, and in between! There has been no need to move the lighting setting up at all, and since I only turn on the Wifi to update my library, I haven't charged this Kindle since I've bought it! 1 month and still going strong! A minor flaw for now I've noticed is when I highlight a word to take notes, it is also added to the "Vocabulary builder." This is a bit annoying as I need to delete some words once in a while. Another (though maybe because I don't know the shortcut?) is when I've reached a footnote in another page and need to go back to where I was reading, I need to have remembered the page number or chapter number. 3rd and last minor flaw is that I type faster than the keyboard's response, so I often need to actually slow down and type 1 letter at a time.

Good upgrade for the Kindle with a few bugs

The Kindle paper white is a good upgrade. This is my third kindle. I have been using Kindles since the first generation. Upgrade to the third Gen now this.I was unsure if I'd like the fact that it is back light but the adjustment of the display brightness has put to rest any concerns. The display is crisp and clean. I liked buttons and to some degree the i miss them for page turning. The one annoying factor is sometimes when swiping it goes to the font size change menu instead of changing the page. you also can find your self several pages ahead or behind my accidentally touching the screen. The only other little bug is (with the cover) if you leave it open and it goes to sleep mode you need to close the cover for a few seconds then open it up. Battery life seems shorter then my older kindles but still it lasts at least a week of heavy use. I don't use the other features of the kindles so I can't comment. Kindle is my device of choice for reading. If you read a lot and want to read inside or out get a Kindle.

So, yeah, I bought a Kindle when I realized how much easier it is to have several books loaded than lugging paperbacks with only carry-on luggage. I feel like we are betraying one of the nicest parts of reading cheap novels -- leaving them for the next person to enjoy. That said, the Kindle does what it promises to do very efficiently. It is easy to hold, to read, to load with books and, within reason, to customize. But when my wife said we'd rue the day when B&N closes our neighborhood bookstore, I was wracked with guilt all over again, and bought two thick paperbacks to make amends. Stiil, I know I will use the Kindle more and more. Jeff Bezos was right when he said the business model of cutting down trees to ship paper to China and ship back books to the US is not sustainable. Alas...

I bought this as a Mother’s Day present to myself and to also lessen the amount of physical books I pack and unpack with each military move. I do notice I don’t have as much eye fatigue with using this e-reader vs my phone. I like that it’s very light, a simple interface and syncs with all my other kindle devices. So if I do want to get in a quick chapter on my phone, it’ll take me to last read location when I pick up my kindle. Hate the lag you get with the login in screen but other than that best option for book lovers who love to travel or, like me, don’t want to unpack 10 boxes worth of books every 2-3 years.

Great Ereader for those with Macular Degeneration

I have used a Kindle for a few years. As my Macular Degeneration advances it has become harder to read on the original one. I purchased the Kindle White after researching it on a few sites. It was recommended by Agencies that deal with eye problems over the Ipad which is harder to read on especially as it gets darker out. As this eye disease advances it affects how I deal with light and dark. Because this Paperwhite is back lit and I can make it as bright as I need it to be. I am enjoying reading again, and would highly recommend it to anyone with similar eye disease.

I bought this after owning a Kindle with keyboard for years. Had it not been for my clumsy self I would still be using it as I had no complaints. After looking around to replace the one I destroyed, I decided on the Kindle Paperwhite. I really like the light for night reading but do be aware if use to the older version this will be using a lot more battery than you r used to. I didn't think I would have any problems going to a touch screen but it is not as streamlined as the past versions. Overall, to pages look great and it is easy to read on.

I wanted something for books only-- not a tablet. This Kindle Paperwhite fit the bill. The lighting is variable so I can control the intensity. The battery has long life and charges quickly. The variable font size is fantastic for those of us whose eyes aren't what they used to be. The one negative is that I cannot delete books from my Cloud although they can be deleted from my device. Hence, library books that I no longer have access to are still showing up on the Cloud. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase of the Kindle Paperwhite.

The Kindle paper white is great for reading. It is easy on the eyes . I had been using the Kindle app on my I Pad, however, it was causing eye strain. I use the Overdrive app on my IPad to download library books. The Kindle is also very portable and light in comparison to reading on an iPad . My main disappointment is with the battery life. My only other issue is shutting it off. I wish there was a Menu button to turn it off instead of having to hold the button down to power off.

Seems like the battery isnt as good as the 3G version I had had before. I can go without my smart phone but my kindle goes with me everywhere. I didnt have a case on my old one and the screen froze after about a year. If there is one thing I dont like is the Ads on the screen saver. I am a 25 year old male...I dont like someone glancing at my kindle when Im not reading it and thinking I read only romance novels...which seem to be the only thing they have for advertisements

I'm used to my ipad so I might be a tad biased but the keyboard is delayed and the purchasing and searching features are not as intuitive as I'd like. Overall, I like the Paper white and I'm reading much more now that I have it. There is no glare and I can adjust the brightness depending on where I'm at. It's very lightweight and I like that it saves my place and goes right to the page I was reading last (I never had a bookmark when I read paper books).

It is great for reading in any lighting conditions,. I am used to reading on my iPad and enjoy the flexibility of being on the Internet, checking email, playing games, listening to music, ect. all from the same device. I feel limited on the paperwhite. The huge trade off of course comes with being able to read in the sun, which absolutely cannot be done on the iPad. I purchased it specifically to take on vacation and it is great for this purpose.

Although, I do love the Paperwhite, I find that turning the pages is surprisingly frustrating. There has not been one page I did not have to swipe twice or try top press harder to turn. That is troublesome to me and I do use a stylus. I love the small size and the lightness of the product makes for easy reading. I have a Kindle HD which is heavier and more difficult to read in bed or laying down anywhere.

I have tried 4 different tablets, for the purpose of reading books, the white paper Kindle is the best! It's the perfect size to hold in one hand, the screen has no glare therefore can be seen in any or no light, font size is adjustable, word definitions easily and quickly accessible, book marking with one fingertip and online shopping is a breeze!

For the price, this is a good sized product that is easy to take with you and use while traveling. Much easier than taking books on the go. Paperwhite is a key differentiator even though you can get a Kindle Fire for about the same price, but that is much harder on the eyes. But does have more features. All in all, this serves it's purpose if you are looking for a product just for reading.

Generally I love my new Kindle. It is number 4! I had the original and loved it got the Kindle Fire to have more features, but still used the original at night. Decided to get the Kindle Fire HD for another upgrade, but sold the old Kindle Fire to a friend who loves it. My original finally gave out so I got this one because the screen is easier on my eyes at night. I have loved all four!

I really like this reader. It is easy to use and works great in all light conditions. My biggest disappointment is not knowing the page numbers in relation to the print book. When my book club says read the first 200 pages for next meeting, I have no idea where page 200 is. This is also a problem with my college textbooks. I also wish you were able to hear audio on the Paperwhite.

Great device for avid reader. I have been able to read more since receiving this kindle as a gift. There is a lot of content to choose from, but browsing can be slow on device. It is easier to search if you have specific author or title. Otherwise, I would recommend this product to anyone. I have been very happy with it!

This is perfect for someone who just wants a reader, no real internet or other features. Best is the screen resolution, adjustments to the background light, ease in switching from landscape to standard position. For me, it is easier to read on the Paperwhite than in most books. It could respond more quickly to tapping each character of my sign-in code; but big deal.
