An absolute beast. Upgraded from an Amd 3700x for the needed extra cores. I had 3900XT for a couple of days, and productivity difference between it and the 5900X is only minor, but you can see a real difference in the boost to FPS with gaming. Mine under volts very well and can hit 4.9 to 4.95 across the cores in light loads. Temps reach upto 84 degrees in a warm room gaming for an extended period of time, but just pummeling it with work at close to 100% utilization it only reaches about 65 degrees and all cores sit around 4.375. I've only lowered the curve and have not really fiddled with over clocking. It was quick and easy in the bios, and not in Ryzen Master. I'm very impressed with performance for gaming, but over 3900X/XT it is not a massive gain for work. I just wish there was not the shortage. I actually did not think I would get lucky on getting one, and purchased the 3900XT.

Best value Ryzen 5000 series CPU!
This MONSTER CPU is fantastic for all kinds of workloads, especially gaming.
Pros:
- Pricing is fair: Only $100 more for 4 more cores, compared to $150 more for 2 more cores on the 5800x.
- Thermals: Runs cooler than my 5800x in my other rig.
- SPEED: Kerchow! Fastest gaming CPU in the West is currently unmatched!
Cons:
- Difficult to get, but be sure to sign up for stock alerts!
- Needs a beefy cooler if you're overclocking (which is a must if you're using this MONSTER)

It’s a CPU that is fast and responsive. This thing is great for gaming and doing other tasks. I personally only use it for my gaming rig. If I was going to do anything more than game I’d go with a different CPU. Currently have this paired with an RTX 3070 and my GPU is holding this back.

Improved over my 9900K in every way

I didn't even expect to be upgrading my 9900K soon at all but the results this CPU put out for the same price blew me away enough to go through with the upgrade. Of all places I actually found it in a local Best Buy just sitting in one of the glass PC part cages, but its stock was not reported online.
Installing this CPU, despite the differences from an intel chip, was very easy and user-friendly. I highly recommend using an Asus B550-F Gaming motherboard as this is what I am using and am having an excellent experience with this combo without overspending. The 5900x at stock runs about 19% faster on 1-core tasks than the 9900k and in multicore runs over 60% faster. And, get this, entirely with lower temperatures, like 10 degrees C lower. Specifically in high-end gaming, however, I noticed this CPU runs as hot as the 9900K does. It's also worth noting this CPU has very stable temperatures that do not bounce around like they do on the 9900K; they somewhat gradually increase and decrease like GPU temperatures do, which is awesome for keeping proper track of thermals.
Originally I wanted the 5950x but after actually being lucky enough to have gotten the 5900x instead I think that despite the loss in cores, this is the chip buyers should strive to get this generation. Although $550 is no small amount of cash, this chip still feels like it's a great deal compared to other CPUs I could have bought.

The AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 4th Gen 12-core, 24-threads Unlocked Desktop Processor is an amazing processor that provides high-speed and efficient performance for demanding applications such as gaming and video editing. Its 12 cores and 24 threads make it a great choice for multi-tasking and running multiple applications simultaneously. Overall, it's an excellent investment for anyone in need of a high-performance and reliable processor for their desktop system, and I highly recommend it.

Can’t go wrong with 12 cores, perfect if you do more than game. As someone who does a lot of video rendering on the side this chip is more than enough especially when paired with the right GPU. Highly recommend

The CPU is great, but you knew that. Performs pretty well at stock and runs cool, but you'll want a decent AIO or quality tower air cooler (don't be surprised, it's 12 cores!). No cooler in the box, which is a good thing IMO, they often go unused. PBO unlocks a lot of performance but runs warms (and void warranty), I'd skip it. The chip is plenty fast at stock!
A note about BestBuy's mechanisms for countering bots - I have been able to buy high-demand parts from BestBuy that I couldn't get from anywhere else, so I would say their systems work. Use the app!

I’ve been wanting to upgrade from my 2700x but wasn’t too sure what to get and I was watching videos about the 5900x and saw it can handle gaming and also video editing and so far no regrets! It can definitely handle everything I throw at it and it also gave me a higher fps boost while gaming.

It's a pretty good cpu. I didn't expect anything else. It has good specs and the price wasn't bad. I'm not a gamer I just program all day but I'm sure by looking at the numbers it could most likely run just about anything.

If you're still on the AM4 platform, this is tremendous value for performance. 12 cores is plenty for today's workloads and should be for at least a couple more years. It's perfect for those who just want to drop in an upgrade and be able to use their motherboard for a couple more years before moving on to the AM5 socket.

Had a Ryzen 3900XT and the performance gains on multi core performance are not stellar, but the gaming and lightly threaded performance was very impressive. Runs cool, have consistent performance in my games and is the best desktop CPU in the market bar none. My only grief is that for the price, it does not come with a cooler but nothing that a Noctua DS15 won't take care of it.

The Ryzen 9 5900X is an absolute beast of a CPU, delivering incredible multi-core performance, excellent gaming speeds, and great efficiency. If you’re building a high-end rig for gaming, content creation, or productivity, this processor is still one of the best choices in the AM4 lineup.

Went from a 2700x to this. For what I do with a PC the 2700x was sufficient but I did have an Asus Tuf x570 motherboard so I figured get one of the best chips offered for the board.
Tasks do seem zippier, and Cyberpunk is smoother. I did crash on Cyberpunk with the 2700x randomly, but have yet to have one happen with the 5900x. It doesn't run as cool as the 2700x but surprisingly its not that much warmer. Only difference is chips in my setup, I am still using the same 3200 mhz memory.
I have a noctua chromax dh15 and phanteks p500a case. The 2700x would max out at 60 and idle 27-30 degrees celsius. Doing the same tests the next day in about the same ambient room temp the 5900x idles aaround 29-33 and has maxed at 67 degrees celsius. While playing Cyberpunk it sits around 60. Most cores idle at 3600mhz, single core gets up to 4950, all load synthetic around 4500 and gaming they will hit all core 4750. That is with popping it in and no tweaks.
I figured to bite the bullet while I had gift cards and points. Even before the shortage nice cpus on the used market still sold for a decent price, so I went ahead and grabbed one before AMD stops this line and goes with the next gen.
