Not great for larger homes and outdoor reach.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The signal is solid when near the router. The moment you go outside the signal is non existent. I plan to experiment with placement (I have two), but I would not recommend this product for someone looking to have WiFi in their front or backyard. I’m also experiencing issues with my printer over wifi (due to frequency range). There are adjustments that have improved this, but it’s not perfect. Will continue to play with the settings.

A great quality product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A welcome to our family, replacing two Net gear 6 products. My only downside, is you need Android 8 or above to download the install app to your cell phone. Probably not an issue for most, just love my Samsung Active, yet its Android 7. I used my wife's newer Iphone to finish the install. Has not dropped a connection at all

Happy with purchase
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a Cisco Meraki WiFi router with the Alien and have been quite happy so far (3 weeks). Wifi 6 speeds are very good, overall WiFi range has been equal to the Meraki but with slightly faster speeds. Only issue I’ve noticed is how iPhones in our condo take a little bit to get a data connection when the router is bandwidth steering the device from the 5ghz network to the 2.4ghz network. I created static IPs for the phones and that seems to have helped a bit.

Extremely Powerful Wifi 6 Router
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Router is one of the strongest Routers I've ever had. Unfortunately the signal strength is a bit wonky, mostly due to the types of houses and thr materials used, but you can always use the 4 included ethernet ports to make sure your connection is at MAX. Speaking of max, did you know you can have about 5 and maybe even more Wifi Networks? If you have Gigabit internet, this is the one to use.

I want to love it, but too many issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First the good - the physical design of the router is *fantastic*. I really like the information screen, the app UI is great, and there are a ton of options for you to tweak. A lot of effort was put into the experience, and it shows. This is the only router I've ever owned that I want to show to other people - it's that cool. Unfortunately the positives for me end there. First off, at this time of this writing, if you want to use a secondary DHCP server with this device (such as the optional one included with a pi-hole) you are out of luck. You cannot disable the internal DHCP server. You can try to work around it by restricting the address range the router DHCP server hands out, but it's an ugly workaround. While a typical user probably wouldn't run into this issue, it is a fairly common feature on most routers. The other option is to set the router to bridge mode, which turns it into a glorified (and expensive) wifi access point only. If you do set the router to bridge mode, the guest network stops working. I realize that most normal users won't be running in bridge mode, but guest network is basic wifi router functionality. Next, this router doesn't currently support WPA3. This feature will become more and more important in the future and other routers in this price range do support it. Finally, the speeds just aren't amazing. I got roughly equivalent speeds out of the Plume SuperPods I replaced with this. Not a great first impression, especially since this cost a *lot* more than the SuperPods. I'm honestly not sure who this product is aimed at. Normal users who just want a set it and forget it wifi experience would be better served by something much cheaper, such as one of TP-Link's Deco line. Prosumers who want more control (which I like to pretend I am) will be disappointed in the baffling decisions surrounding some of the more advanced features, and the lackluster performance. These people would be better suited with Ubiquiti's UniFi line, or TP-Link's Omada. Maybe people dazzled by the design (which I totally am) and not price sensitive will be able to forgive the issues. I'm going to try the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 and hope for a better experience. I was hoping the Amplifi Alien could fill my niche of not being interested in maintaining UniFi type access points but wanting more features and control than consumer offerings. Unfortunately, this router doesn't cut it.
