I bought two of these to act as router and mesh point (I'm using Ethernet backhaul). Wanted to replace two Apple Airport Extremes and upgrade my experience. Setup using the Amplify app was incredibly easy. Speed is fantastic (I'm on gigabit ISP). The display is best in class and displays relevant info. You can also use the touch sensitive display to make changes or run tests. I couldn't be happier with this router.

Got 2 of these, one as an extender from my gaming room hardwired in to my pc. Speeds are super fast across the house and the LCD screen is a nice touch.

This is the router for anyone who wants the "Apple" of WiFi routers. I owned the Amplifi HD before this and upgraded to the Alien last year. Never looked back. Ubiquiti makes awesome products.

Great product. Screen is very helpful. Range could be better, but it can be improved with an additional router.

It doesn’t lie when it boasts its high performance network speeds and it does a great job at displaying all the relevant info you need on the screens. My biggest issues come with reliability and false advertisement. My experience with the mesh networking was a nightmare. After a few days the extra nodes would randomly stop working and not show up in the app to reconfigure anymore. I live in an area that has zero cell phone reception so a reliable network is a must. Lastly, I had purchased this router based on the fact that it is listed on Apple.com as HomeKit enabled router. Only to find out (while it was still working) that this was not the case at all. Now I thought I was just doing something wrong until I emailed their tech support and got a response saying it DOES NOT support HomeKit and they don’t have plans to in the future. So, while this router does look cool, it just couldn’t stand the test of time and in my case that was a week.

This mesh wifi router worked great for the first 2 years and then the mesh points stopped connecting to the main router. I had to replace a couple mesh points and then eventually the main routers radio went bad. I would not recommend this product since it does not last.

Fantastic router! I have been researching a replacement router for awhile now to replace my rented comcast gateway. Originally I had my heart set on the Orbi 4200ax mesh system and planned on purchasing that, since there are a few options offering wifi 6 now and I mind as well upgrade to the latest technology. I have a close friend that works in the IT field and he told me to look into what Ubiquiti offered, he swears buy everything they make, which their consumer line is AmpliFi. After reading countless reviews and looking at the fact of how high tech and cool looking this thing is overall, nothing even comes close to looking this good, I decided on the Alien, hoping that the single unit will provide great coverage in my home and forgetting about the 2 pack orbi. Later on, when we buy a larger home I can buy another alien if needed to mesh them together.
Now let me say, holly cow this thing is amazing! I live in a 1300sqf 95 year old house, with multiple walls and layers of drywall and plaster which made the comcast gateway struggle to get a constant connection in the front since they installed the system in the far bedroom. I pay for 250mbps from my isp and previously on a good day in the living room I would normally get 40-50 mbps and in the kitchen around 10-15 mbps and virtually nothing outside in my yard.
I got this bad boy hooked up in less than 5 minutes, it was stupid easy. Renamed my ssid and password to the same thing and everything connected right away and just worked flawlessly. I was already impressed as I was expecting to have to reset multiple smart home items and reconnect them, nope everything was good to go. I normally have 10-15 things connected to it at a time. The interface is really cool and makes a nice look on my desk. I ran to the living room to do a quick speed test on my iphone XSmax and macbook pro which previously was around 40mbps. I was now getting around 210 mbps (I pay for 250) Into the kitchen which was a terrible dead spot in the house around 5-10mbps was now getting around 140mbps! Holly cow, this is great. I can go into my garage and yard now and have a great connection also, which was not possible before. All my smart devices are working seamlessly and very responsive, my ring cameras load much faster, smart tv streams faster with no load time. I cant say enough great things so far about this. I looks like they have been steadily adding features and options with updates to make it even better. Ubiquiti does a great job at making products that just simply work, yea this is a little expensive, but I know its going to be worth it and run stable and do what its designed to do and I'll have it for years to come.
Buy this, buy this now!

Best router I’ve ever owned. Had one for years and finally bought a second as a mesh point. Using a Ethernet backbone this is by far the easiest most powerful router available

If you would have asked me a few years ago if I’d spend $379 on a router, I’d undoubtedly tell you no. If you would have asked if I would have bought two, even with a $100 off each for Black Friday, I’d laugh.
My modem died and I used the opportunity to upgrade everything since I just moved into a house. I needed a Docsis 3.1 modem and my Netgear XR500 just didn’t quite reach the garage. I started to consider mesh WiFi.
I started with the orbi pair on sale for $329 and the worst part I noticed with it was the “security” included in the software. I’m not a fan of bundled software, and to top it off, you only get 90 days of support and then you have to pay.
I ignored the Alien because I didn’t know anything about the company until I found out the parent company Ubiquiti makes commercial stuff that is both beautiful and functional. The alien gets most of the features desired from their pro stuff.
Now, after running two of these for a week, I’m extremely impressed by the simplicity. I’ve got maybe 10 minutes vested in seeing these up and another 15 customizing both of them. I’ve got more time than the previous times combined just messing with them. They may not be as in depth on the backend as the commercial stuff but wow they work great.
Pros:
Fastest setup ever.
Fast speeds.
Large coverage.
Beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.
Easy to navigate controls through mobile app.
Cons:
Web interface needs more love.
Expensive. I’m not denying this.
No 2.5g ports? Doesn’t bother me.
Large.
What I want to see:
Amplifi, please please please please improve the web interface, copy pasting posts in the app for forwarding for gaming sucks.

I bought three of these Alien devices for a mesh network in a two story house with a basement. Total investment: $1200. Unless Ubiquiti comes up with some firmware updates that fix a major problem in the next few weeks, I will be returning all three devices.
This is the coolest looking router I have ever seen. Not that the color display is essential, but it does contain some useful information. I have about 40 devices connected to the network, most being low bandwidth IOT devices such as light switches, leak detectors, etc. All of my high bandwidth devices (like smart TV's) are hard wired to the home network, and thus do not impact the WiFi network. I run wired ethernet to the two satellite Alien devices which is definitely the way to go with any mesh network if you can do it.
Range is quite good, and connections are stable. Setup was easy. The Alien app is very good. I particularly like a feature that allows me to turn on a guest network with no password required with the push of a button on the app. The guest network disappears after a predetermined time. Great feature that every mesh network should have.
Here's the problem: many users, including me, have never been able to get a WiFi 6 (802.11AX) device to connect at anywhere close to the speed that the clients are capable of. The problem is not limited to AX capable clients, but occurs when any client tries to connect to one of the WiFi 6 SSID's the router produces. As an example: my FIOS gigabit internet connection runs at about 800 Mbps up and down on wired ethernet. I get about 450 Mbps on a WiFi 5 SSID created by the Alien if I manually connect to that WiFi SSID. If my device happens to connect to any other SSID from the Alien, I get a maximum download speed of about 250 Mbps. So by manually forcing a device to connect to a WiFi 5 SSID, the system works pretty well, but as you move about the house with a phone or laptop, the device is just as likely to connect to a WiFi 6 SSID which will limit the connection speed between the device and the router to about 60% of what it should be. Also, the higher speeds available on WiFi 6 connections simply do not exist currently on my setup even though I have some WiFi 6 devices. A definite step backwards in terms of performance.
Most people pay no attention to how their phone or laptop connects to the internet. They expect to enter a password the first time they connect to a new SSID and after that, they pay no attention to it. It's supposed to work, and it should work at the top speed the hardware is capable of. That is simply not the case for many Alien users currently. I suspect a lot of people don't even know they are connecting at 60% of what they should be getting.
Ubiquiti tech support acknowledges the problem, and is pushing out beta firmware on a regular basis in an effort to fix it, but from reading the user posts on the Alien Community forum, this problem has been going on for almost a year, and it is quite widespread.
Before spending $1200 for three Alien units, I had a hodge podge of Netgear Nighthawk routers configured as access points and an old Apple Time Capsule. That network gave me speeds better than the Alien devices.
Once Ubiquiti fixes the problems with the Alien, it will be a great system, but until they do, there are other less expensive mesh systems that will provide the full WiFi speeds you are paying your ISP for at considerably less cost.
Not recommended until this WiFi speed problem is resolved.

Best router hands down. When the AMPLIFI Allien arrives and you open the box, you can see the quality. The router is extremely well packaged. Everything came across as highly professional and at that point I was hopeful for a positive experience. After installing the app and following the basic instructions, I was able to create my WIFI SSID to match my old router, created profiles for my family devices, work devices and entertainment devices. All very easy through the app. After a firmware update which the app initiated, my home network was up and running. I made a few tweaks here and there to the settings, including accessing the web based interface which allows you to enable/disable several additional options. All told, it was very easy to set up and configure.
I've now had the setup running rock solid for about a month. The signal strength around my property is excellent.
The LCD on the router is very nice, I can check the status very easily. If the router has issues, it will also tell you via the LCD display. I also like that you can click on your WIFI devices and it gives you an overall percent rating of connectivity. For example, my devices show a combined 93% signal strength and you can scroll through the screen easily to see which devices might have poor connectivity. None of my devices do which is an excellent upgrade from my previous router.
