It's super fast and reaches all around my house, including rooms I used to need a repeater for. Being able to check things on my phone through their app is a nice perk as well and makes things super easy to allow guests to join.

Perfect router for large house & home automation

Absolutely the best router i've owned. I have 1 Gig speed and dozens of smart lights, streaming devices, home automation, and security cams. My house if 4k sq ft and this seems to cover nearly everything well. I'll likely add another unit and hard wire to other side of house to increase speeds inside and outside of house, but for now, its better than expected.

I bought an Eero Pro 6 last year, and was having nothing but problems getting it to maintain HomeKit, IoT, and acceptable quality of service for a gigabit fiber connection in a 1 bedroom. I have an intermediate level of networking knowledge. The Amplifi Alien solved it all overnight. I know Ubiquiti is the undisputed best in this category, but I didn’t want to bother with all the extra setup. I have about 30 wireless devices, and 3 small unmanaged switches at drops throughout the house. About 30 IoT products. This router hits the perfect middle ground of Ubiquiti quality, features, and reliability without requiring an advanced networking certification to get the most out of it. Specifically to Apple ecosystem users: this is the solution to your woes. Got a HomePod stereo pair that always seems to flake out? Home app giving you “No Response” all the time? Alien’s gotchu.

This router had the easiest setup of any router we’ve owned. It’s feature set is a little lacking, but it does everything we want it to do. It has also been the most reliable router we’ve ever hooked up to our network. No issues whatsoever. Would buy again if needed.

    My AmpliFi Alien review

I've waited a bit before posting this review to get some real use out of it. I am an IT Professional. I consider myself not "optimistic" or "pessimistic" ... but "realistic". I have been a long time NetGear user. In order I have used the following over the past 6 years: R6400v1 (purchased new), R7000 (purchased used), R8000 (gifted to me used). When in use, I was dilligent on keeping their firmware updated. I am also very familiar with the Nighthawk App and their web interfaces to manage them. I've also gone through the phase of messing around with open source firmware on them (luckily never bricked them). Also, for quite sometime my internet has been (through two different ISPs due to moving) 300Mbps download / 30Mbps upload. For the most part, the Netgear routers listed above I've used have done a "good" job matched to my internet speed that I've paid for. My ISP recently removed my plan and tried me to get 500Mbps download / 10Mbps upload. Download speed would have been a nice improvement, but working from home I especially rely on upload speeds. So I reluctantly upgraded to my ISPs gigabit offering, which has 35Mbps upload. Using my Netgear R8000, I was finding I was struggling to get advertised download speeds with the gigabit offering. Also, with the number of IOT devices increasing (thermostats, cameras, plugs, etc) I had to turn my "guest" network into a dedicated IOT 2.4GHz network because of the issues of loosing connectivity due to not switching between 2.4GHz and 5GHz correctly. After much reasearch, I ended up landing on the Amplifi Alien for the following reasons: - My wife is tired of all the antennas and wanted something that looked a little nicer without "bat wings" - I don't need a mesh network because signal hasn't been a problem due to square footage. - I need performance. - I wanted to be able to handle 2.4GHz correctly for growing IOT devices. - I don't have anything right now that can advantage of WiFi 6e right now, so no need to pay for the latest and greatest yet. - I have a "noisy neighborhood" with lots of WiFi signals contenting for channels. - I currently don't have the need for pairing up ethernet ports for faster network speeds to my modem or devices. Setup was easy. So far performance wise I haven't been disappointed. WiFi throughput has met my expectations. I've also been able to dedicate a specific SSID on 2.4GHz for all my IOT devices without having to remove the "guest" network. Most importantly, my wife likes the cylinder look much better. No "bat wings". ;-) In my research, there is a video out there giving a review that I'd like to provide some updated information on. It specifically mentions about no support for the 160MHz bandwidth. A previous firmware update v3.6.0 (now running v3.6.2) enabled 160MHz and DFS WiFi channels. However, in order to use 160MHz bandwidth I found that you must enable the DFS WiFi channels (which you may or may not be able to use based on radar in your area). In my situation, I'm able to use the DFS channels. And I have noticed the difference in speeds with and without DFS and the 160MHz bandwidth. However; after setting up for DFS and 160MHz, about a week later it gave a notification that it detected radar and switched off DFS and 160MHz. I changed it back again, detected no radar, and I'm set again. NOTE: Settings are made in the App by selecting the router, Wireless, Advanced or by going to the web interface at http://amplifi.lan Realistically, over time as more people upgrade to routers that take advantage of these technologies ... I expect the speed advantages will become dimished as more contentions occur just as they now do on the regular channels and bands. One thing I'd recommend ... turn off the green LED ring at the bottom (which can be done in the App). There is no purpose in keeping it on unless you just like the look of it. Is it expensive? Yes. Do I wish it was cheaper? Yes Am I overall satified with the performance, management, and "asthetics"? Yes Is it a perfect solution? No. Is there room for improvements? Yes (I expect through firmware and App updates) Do I expect a decent usage life out of it before having to upgrade again? Yes Overall, I believe I've gotten what I've paid for. If you are somebody who: - looks into technical details when you upgrade your WiFi router - doesn't need a mesh network - needs performance to better match your gigabit internet speed - needs flexibility on dedicating SSIDs - accepts your mileage may vary on being able to use DFS channels and 160MHz - can afford/justify the cost ... then I can recommend the Amplifi Alien. If you don't fall into these categories, there are other products out there that are cheaper that can better match to your specific needs.

This is it. I won’t use any other, ever. I used google mesh Wi-Fi and it always got stuck and had to be rebooted. NOT THIS ONE! Also, the alien app (AMPLIFI) is so incredible. Mind blowing configuration, extra SSId’s on different channels, hidden ssid’s, speed test, customizable in every way. The speed and performance is just Unparalled.EASY TO USE!

Hmm - Pros: - This thing is cool looking; the front panel LED and all. - Intuitive just to get online. I can attest, probably take a minute at all. Cons: - It really has very little features. Whether it is intentional or not, im not sure. - Config: If you even want to do something as simple as port forwarding, you need run through the mobile app. <-- That's not fun. - It doesn't the speed boost as let say an Asus -router. - Pricey I really tried to like this, but I think it needs to go back.

This wireless router has been recommended by my friend. So easy to set up. Highly intuitive. Internet I pay for 300 by 10. Every corner in my house ( 1500 sq . ) my internet speed is 350 by 10. Outside house , back yard 150 by 10 . Very happy. Thanks everyone who designed this .

Love this router. I live in a bigger older house and some materials in the walls which prevent my old router from giving me full coverage. Also seemed to give better speeds overall. Purchased 2 units yo create a mesh throughout the house. The app is nice and simpler but provides useful features. The VPN service is a nice benefit too! Do I need to mention it also looks cool!!!

After comg from eero, this is way faster and a lot more stable. The range is fantastic. I traded in three eeros for this one device and still have better coverage. The cool tech display is also a nice touch to monitor usage. The app is also super intuitive.

This is quite the upgrade to my old Asus lyra trio mesh network. Easily handles 50 devices spread between 2.4 only, 5ghz, and wifi 6 devices with ease and makes all work flawlessly. Not a ton of customization options like my older Asus routers, but i didnt use most of those options anyways, this one just works, and works really well.

This router is one of the highest quality routers you can ever buy. It’s made by Ubiquiti and it shows. The power cord is thick, the weight of the router is enough to show that Ubiquiti means business. It’s a gorgeous design and setup is screaming fast. I loved it, but had to return it because my printers are wifi 3 and 4. I couldn’t get the printers to stay on the network. So for now, I have to use my Ubiquiti Dream Machine, which is wifi 5. I miss the blazing fast wifi speeds of the Alien. I could copy gigs of data from one machine to an SSD external on another - FAST. I would recommend it over any other router out there. Also, it has a super intuitive interface.

Great router, easy setup, and seems to be a very steady connection. I used the Apple Time Machine for a long time due to it's stability and never going down unless it was an ISP error. I'm glad I switched as this allows a much faster download speed from the ISP although I do miss the ability to backup my machine automatically.
