The premise is simple - a portable battery charger in the shape of a gaming controller. The execution is good - the grips are easy to hold and, if you have the correct size phone, it fits nicely within the battery/controller. The ability to simultaneously charge and play is nice, as there is a built in fan that will keep your phone cool as it charges and you play. My only wish is that it would fit smaller phones. At the time I got the controller I had an iPhone XR but have since changed to a smaller iPhone 12 mini which is too small for this controller unfortunately. But, I can still use it as a portable battery charger.

I’m on my phone a lot, especially around the holidays, and my battery can’t do much more than ½ to ¾ of the day without a charge at some point. I found the PowerCore Play 6700 and figured that it was an affordable battery pack I could pack when we go to visit whoever or have in my bag at work. Obviously it’s big selling point is the ability to stretch around the width of our phone in landscape to allow you to play games and making your phone feel like a console controller. At this it passes with flying colors! The feel of the battery pack is just like holding a controller, it's not quite any of the big name gaming controllers but close enough. It uses a spring to pull apart and let your phone rest inside on a non-slip type pad then closes onto the edges of your phone. The battery pack also has a fan that comes on when you connect to keep your phone cooler while running demanding apps/games and while you can definitely hear it in a quiet room I barely noticed personally, mileage will vary depending on your sensitivity. The USB that comes with it is a wide “standard” USB-A to USB-C and the cable is about a foot long, which is fine since you won’t be needing it to stretch far with its intended use.
Let's talk about that USB cord for a moment more though, because its the weak point of this whole brilliant product. I had assumed that it would either be Wireless charging or have a dock built in but instead the top of the “controller” has a USB-A and a USB-C port next to each other so you can flip the cord to charge the battery pack or charge your phone. What this means in execution is that you are playing on your phone with a wire coming out of the top and looping around to the side, mildly invasive if you like your phone au natural and moderately invasive to unusable depending how your case is set-up. I use a Unicorn Beetle and the port cover only just flips back enough to allow the charging cable to go in while clamped into the controller. If possible, ask Best Buy to let you open the box and try before you buy, I suspect some of the beefier cases will be incompatible with this although I didn’t have any others to try with.
Overall a good product though, other than the wires, and it charged my phone up as fast as my wall plug.

i am torn from a 3 or 4 star. so i will round up to 4. its great for those who play a lot of mobile games, and who dont use a phone case or dont mind taking the case off. it has a fan which helps keep device cool. its also a back up battery pack.
why i am not giving a 5 star. like i mentioned, you have to remove case from phone. at least with plus size phones. i have a iphone 7plus, daughter has the new 12. the 12 max just barely fits without a case, while i have just a little room but still with my case wont fit. would be nice if they made things like this with cases in mind.
the cord was pretty short. so not easy or convenient to charge the batter pack while using. the fan would also not work while charging the batter pack, as well as it wont charge phone at the same time either.
the whole bottom has a lip. so when phone is placed inside, you cant use the buttons that are on the bottom. (facing down.) so iphone if volume buttons are on the bottom, wont be able to use them.
Now for the good. like i mentioned, if you dont mind taking case off, dont use a case, its not bad. you can play for a while with the battery pack keeping phone charged and feels great. if you like a feeling of holding a controller, this gives that feeling. it also has a stand so if you want to watch a video or movie you can stand it up.
the fan will auto turn on if you plug your phone in to charge. you can also turn the fan on (as long as you are not charging the battery pack) by tapping the button.
if you enjoy playing mobile games and want to have a controller feeling grip while you play then this is great to have.

Good phone charger for gaming and watching videos

The Anker PowerCore portable charger for mobile gaming worked as expected. After it is fully charged (takes 2 - 3 hours), it can keep an attached phone charged for more than 24 hours. It expands to fit phones 5.7 to 6.5 inches. When the phone is attached and charging, a cooling fan is activated.
The fan noise sounds like static and is a little annoying when there isn’t much background noise but it only lasts until the phone is at 100% charge and then it stops. Once stopped, I wasn’t able to get it to start charging the phone again until I disconnected and reconnected the phone cord. There may be a phone charge level where it automatically starts charging again, but I haven’t been able to find that point. There is an indicator on the side of the charger to show its charge level. There are enough ports to charge both the phone and the charger at the same time if needed.
It fits comfortably in both hands and is light enough to be mobile. It’s too heavy for me to hold up comfortably for more than 15 minutes, but in younger and stronger hands it should work just fine. There is also a stand that can be used to position the charger and phone for watching videos hands free.
The one problem I had is due to the phone charging cord that is plugged into the Anker charger. My cord is 3 feet long and so would sometimes get tangled up and in the way. I’ll need to look into purchasing a shorter phone charging cord.

Simple and works well

This portable charger/holder works well and does it's job. I have not found myself using it as much as I thought I would.
I have a Galaxy S9 plus with an Otterbox Symetry case and I have to remove it to place in this holder. It expands easily to fit the phone and it holds it very secure. It has never slipped out once while in use, so that is a non issue.
The charger works well and keeps the phone charge moving up while in heavy use. Most chargers will only keep a charge when you are using a battery draining game or app. This one actually charges my phone up while playing.
The form factor is nice and it fits great in your hands. I played several games and I love playing with it. I used Mario kart and it felt like I was playing it for the first time.
The only downside is the built in fan. I like that a fan is included to keep the phone from overheating, but it is kind of loud. I was charging my phone with it one night and had to raise my TV volume because the fan was so loud. To be fair it was before bed when the house was quiet and the phone was with me in bed.
I like the placement of the holder as I am able to plug in the charger and my headphones if I put it in the holder one direction. But depending on what side you mount it you will lose access to either the power button or the volume rocker. It is not a huge deal as if you are mounting this to play you will not be locking your phone, so I choose to block the power button.
Overall, I think this is a very nice charger and holder and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys playing games on their phone and on the go.

Great Alternative Charging Source!

Anker is really proving themselves to be a formidable player in the charging of phones and peripherals eco-system! This device is made to extend your phone’s battery life by charging your device while engaging in gaming. I have a game that I play that offers tournaments along with many levels of play, suffice to say, it consumes a lot of battery life. So far, this device has been the answer. I have a larger Android phone that does not fit inside the holder, but I can still charge it outside the holder. This battery at 6700 mah is a great charging source as it helps me going and going.
I really like the device, my only reason for deducting a star is I wish it were bigger to hold larger smartphones.

Unboxing of this charger was simple. It came with a charging cable, the wireless charger and instructions in the box.
Overall, I really enjoy the feel and texture of the charger. It has a matte finish and a textured back to help with grip. The back also has a little kickstand to aid with watching movies which is a great feature! The charger extends to fit multiple sizes of phones. I have an iPhone 11 pro max which was too big to fit in the charger with my phone case so I had to remove it to use the charger.
The charger did come with any "juice" in it, so I needed to charge before using. It did not come with a charging block which I don't mind but would prefer if it did come with one. The cable is USB to USB-c which I found to be a little inconvenient because most charging cables I have that are not apple are micro-usb (so I better not lose this little cable!) There is a blue 4 light indicator to show charging progress.
pros: -kickstand for watching movies
- grip
-extendable size
cons: -no charging block
- need to take off phone case for larger phones
- uncommon charging cable

Too Small for My Galaxy Z Flip, Really Loud Fan

I like this on paper, but unfortunately it's just a little too small to fit my Galaxy Z flip into (The flip, not the fold, which is tablet sized).
I was able to play with it on my Son's iPhone XR, which it did fit, even with a big case on it. I would do your research before getting this for a big phone like the iPhone Max or Note 20. It may not fit.
I really like the way it feels in-hind when playing games. It has a nice size and heft to it that makes it feel like a console controller, and leaves my thumbs in the perfect place for most mobile FPS controls.
I also like the Nintendo Switch style kickstand that pops out the back. You can prop it up and watch video all day on the extra battery. It would be especially great for travel!
The other issue I had was the built in fan. It's great that it cools your device (If you're playing games, it's likely to be running hot!) but it's really loud. I would feel self-conscious using it next to someone on public transportation.
It comes with a short USB-C cable (It charges over USB-C and has a normal USB output) but not a short micro-USB or lightning cable. Keep this in mind if your phone doesn't work on USB-C.

Good power bank for mobile gaming

The Anker PowerCore is a unique design for those looking to game, while also charging their phone. The grip and handle feels good. Charging your phone is a bit awkward because the power cable plugs into the upper back part of the device, and goes around and plugs into your phone. It’s not a very clean look in my opinion. The grill in the middle is actually a fan that’s supposed to keep your phone cool while gaming. It would be nice if there was a way to turn it on and off. I really don’t need the fan running all the time. Especially in quiet environments. Overall it’s a unique product, but I feel as though they can refine it a bit more.

I was needing a device with a kick stand fir ease of use in watching videos plus I needed a battery pack. This fit both the requirements.
It is solid & im able to charge my iPhone 11 Pro Max or my Note 8. Really like how versatile it is.
Also, for playing games that need me to hold the mobile device this works really well.
Only thing I wish this device did was allow for a case to be on the device. The space isn’t wide enough or deep enough to allow for that. So I have to take my phone out of the cash to use this which makes me leery. However, knowing that I’d still want this device.
Beyond happy with this awesome product from Anker.

Comfortable, Quick Charging

The Anker PowerCore Play 6700 has, so far, on its first full charge, been used to charge my phone (iPhone 7 in a case) 2.5 times and a friend's iPhone XR (in a cover). I've used the phone while charging and the game controller shape & feel is very comfortable. The XR-having friend is more of a gamer than I and has already committed to stealing the Anker PowerCore Play 6700 while I'm not looking one day. And the real reason I got it? So kids can use it in the car on trips and not be tethered to too short charging cables in inconvenient locations.

DOA, Dead On Arrival

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was really excited to get this portable charger which would allow me to play games for longer stretches of time on my iPhones, while providing me with an ergonomic, comfortable grip similar to using gaming controllers like my Xbox controller. Imagine my crushing disappointment when it simply would not work. It was essentially Dead On Arrival. I tried every which way to charge it up—I made sure to use the charging cable that came with it, with an Anker wall charger. I tried different cables, with different wall charger units, with different wall outlets, just every combination, and it still wouldn’t work. Several times I made sure to plug it in for hours at a time, even overnight. Nothing worked. I have several other Anker products—cables, power banks, portable chargers, wall chargers—and I’ve never encountered this problem, Anker is normally one of my go-to brands for accessories.
That said, everything else I was able to try out worked out great, which just increased my disappointment exponentially in not being able to fully try it out. I have various sizes of iPhones—in cases—and I was able to fit them all nice and snug into the charger, with the cases on. I had absolutely no fear of any of the iPhones falling out. The way the sides are shaped—again, just like the sides of my Xbox controllers—fits my grip perfectly, for a true gaming feel. There is a small stand on the back you can pull out (just like on the Nintendo Switch), so you can prop up your phone hands-free on a table—love that little touch. There is both a USB-A output and USB-C input/output for a possible up to 15W total output.
I unfortunately got a dud.

Nice.
This thing fits my Pixel 3 xl with spigen case. Fitting bigger phone is a little harder because it locks in tight.
Only charges fast if you use OEM cord.
Keep phone charged nicely. Neat battery indicator light to see how much is left.
Only con. After a while you can get fatigued from its weight.
I would still recommend this product. Nicely done.
