    Not Durable!

It was fine while it lasted... Made it on one flight and was broken in transit. For the price, the screen is not durable enough to be considered a "portable" monitor.

    Screen Display Looks Cracked

I haven’t even had this monitor for two months and the display is already messed up. I have not dropped it or banged it on anything so I am not sure why the display screen looks cracked. The monitor screen itself is not cracked. Checked Google for a solution, but not much luck. Very disappointed.

Effective but Annoying Portable Monitor for Mac

I am not UN-happy with this purchase, but it DOES require a little more finagling than I would prefer on my Mac. I am going back and forth about whether or not the inconvenience of to exchanging it for a similar device is worth the hassle of returning to the store, especially because I am not guaranteed any other device would work better. When it works, which it does more than it doesn’t, I am happy. I purchased this in early April 2024 and am using this semi-successfully on a 2022 MacBook Air with M2 chip. Since my MacBook only has USB-C ports, and this monitor only uses standard USB cable connections, I have to use a separate display adapter, but I already had one on hand for use with my regular HDMI standing monitor. This portable monitor does draw power from your laptop, so keep that in mind for battery usage and plug in if you have the option to do so. The driver installation disk that comes in the box is a CD, which my MacBook does not have a port for, so I used the Questions and Answers feature on BestBuy.com and did a web search for “DisplayLink Mac driver AOC USB monitor” as suggested. This successfully got me to the website by Synaptics that let me download the driver needed, which installs to the Applications folder as “DisplayLink Manger.” You do have to grant the application permission to see/record/mirror your screen in Settings when prompted in order for the portable monitor to work, and the DisplayLink Manager application has to be running continuously. It will show in the menubar at the top if successful, right by to the date and time. I was worried this might allow the installed software to share and record my screen to its servers, and I can’t confirm that is not happening, but the monitor still works with the internet and Bluetooth turned off, so I am assuming this is just a local share between devices as opposed to one being transmitted, and there doesn’t appear to be any mechanism to save a recording or connect to the web in the hardware itself. If privacy, security and PII is an absolute requirement for you, do additional research or pick another device. I started having minor inconveniences about 2 weeks after using it successfully. Sometimes, upon initial plug in, the portable monitor will show the “AOC” logo for a few seconds, but then go to black instead of initiating the screen mirror/extension. For one day I thought this was because my device was a dud, but since many of the online questions showed trouble connecting with Macs I did extended troubleshooting. I found that sometimes, the DisplayLink Manager application shut itself off after I disconnected my laptop and shut the lid to transport or put it in energy saver mode, so I have to manually start the app up again, and that startup can take a minute or two to detect the monitor. In addition, sometimes the USB and USB-C plugs on my laptop, the display adapter, and the monitor get jiggled enough that I have to unplug and replug them all back in securely for the signal to transmit. Sometimes both of these happen at the same time. For now, given that this monitor is designed to be portable, these seem to be reasonable annoyances. YMMV.

    Excellent for its Purpose

This is the second “portable” monitor I bought - I bought this on a trip out of necessity for a 2nd screen and at $125, couldn’t pass up. So, the good: love the adjustable rear stand. Love the single USB 3.0 cable vs a combination of USB / HDMI / USB C. A lot of computers either don’t have a full size HDMI (they have a mini, that requires another adapter) or don’t have gen 2 USB C that can support monitors. This was completely plug and play and should be for most monitors. Also note it has a VESA mount if you for some reason wanted to add to a stand (I could see the value in it b/c of the integrated USB / graphics card). The bad: this isn’t a super thin high def LCD screen; it’s the thickness of an average monitor. Probably takes up an extra inch of space compared to one of the “tablet” type portable screens. Additionally, due to the simple USB interface, the monitor is limited to 1366 x 768, which is basically like 720p, less than 1080p and much much less than 4K. I work in excel / ppt so not a big deal, but could see some finding this a deal breaker. Lastly, USB is the only option - no ability to plug in an HDMI without an adapter.

I've been researching portable monitors for about 2 weeks, and was debating so many options from size, usb 3 vs type-c, and battery value vs. weight. I decided to pull the trigger today and I couldn't be happier for the price. I plugged it into my Chromebook and it didn't initially work so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it WORKED. Using it on my Asus C434, it has a usb 3 port so its perfect. I'll be using this while I travel for work. It also worked with my Windows laptop, and I'm sure it would work for a mac What I love: + Inexpensive + Works out of the box + Display is bright enough + Light and easy to transport + Stand works surprisingly well What I don't love + Materials feel a bit like cheap plastic + display could be crisper, its a bit washed out, but for the price it's a steal + I wish they had it in a 13.3 inch screen as I'll need a slightly larger laptop bag but I'm just being annoying. I'll update this in a few weeks to report on battery consumption

Great Portable monitors (I got 2) for travel when work requires several screens. I chose this specific size for ease of transporting them with limited space in my bag. This product also fit within my price point. I had a glitch with one of the monitors not illuminating, but I eventually was able to get it to work. Great product!

Love this portable monitor. I use it for playing diablo 2, i dont like turning my head to the left so i tried out this portable monitor so i could move it around and have it sit in my lap like a laptop. It works wonderfully for this. No one says anything about gaming but it does work good for computer games at least old ones like diablo 2. :)

This is a great monitor for its price. The only reason I give it a 4 is resolution is not that great, but I dont expect any better than this for this price either. What is so convenient for me with this monitor attached to my Mac -- I open up a Windows virtual machine every now and then on my Mac, and make the windows VM display on this monitor. I also keep a wireless keyboard and mouse in front of the monitor. So, while on Mac, I use the built-in keyboard and touchpad, while on Windows I use the bluetooth keyboard and mouse. This kind of makes me feel that I have two laptops next to each other. I primarily did this, since I hate having to type with my hands on one direction and my eyes looking at another direction, but the setup looks cool overall. I like it, and I would recommend this product to anyone.

Great screen or additional screen. Powered by computer which minimizes the need for more wires. Can be used in portrait or landscape which gives edit flexibility. Downside is that it’s difficult to set up with an Apple computer.

My favorite thing about this monitor is being able to use it in portrait or landscape mode. I bought it to help with homeschooling (making worksheets, grading papers, etc.) and it's made things so much easier. It's lightweight and since it's held up with a kickstand you can adjust the tilt. I only have 2 complaints. The first is that the auto-tilt function doesn't seem to work (I've researched online and seen that's an ongoing problem) even when you have the software downloaded so it has to be done manually within the software. The second being that I wish the cord was longer. I switch the monitor from the left side of my laptop to the right depending on what I'm using it for and I only have the port it needs on one side of my laptop. The cord that comes with it has 2 different types of USB (normal and 3.0) but I've only gotten it to work with the 3.0. Those 2 issues are why I gave it only 4 stars.

This external monitor is the perfect travel companion for work on the go. I work in multiple locations, and I did not want to give up the productivity of having two monitors. This monitor has a clear picture. It was very easy to install. My windows machine automatically recognized it and installed the appropriate driver. I did not need to download anything or try to figure out how to use the CD when few laptops these days have CD drives. If you're looking for an affordable and practical second monitor, look no further. I was hesitant to buy this particular monitor due to mixed reviews, and I am very glad that chose this one.

I bought two of these portable monitors to have three screens. You just plug in and go. Each one came with a protective sleeve that prevents scratches which comes real handy when storing them away to transport. They are light and if you download the program you can change settings. They have an integrated stand so you can se up anywhere. I use it for work and it really works for me. Plus it is a reasonable price.

Love the design of it. It has a built-in stand just like an old-style picture frame that you can stand on a desk or table. It also has a little carrying case. Doesn't seem to work with my older MacBook for which I really need an extra monitor. That part is disappointing as it seems I'll have to get tech assistance to see if it's possible to get it working. If I can't get it to work I'll have to return it. Bummer as I like the style of it's design & portability. So much larger screen to view than using phone or tablet. Hence the not so great rating. Could they not design monitors that will operate easily with most computers? Even older ones?

I have a 2015 MacBook Air, and I'm happy to report that this monitor DOES work with it. You don't need a disc player, just go to the manufacturer's website and download the software that suits your current macOS: https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/macos As another Mac reviewer mentioned, I highly recommend watching this quick youtube tutorial, as there's a couple of steps involved in successfully downloading the software: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Qv3xh_HOI&t=49s PROs: Good screen size, lightweight, display is crisp and bright. CONs: Screen is too bright for my eyes and there's no way to adjust it. If this feature were fixed, I'd give it 5 stars.

It's light weight, fits with my laptop in carrying bag with no problem. It has it own case to protect the screen. It plugs to the computer with no issues and the screen quality is good. And it has a little kickstand on the back to prop it up. Get one it help if you are use to 2 monitors at home.

This monitor was purchased to use as an add on when using a laptop. The cord to attach it to the monitor is a bit short so you need to be conscious of moving any laptop that it attached to it because it WILL come along. :) The monitor puts out a good picture, clear and bright. It's easy to install. Drivers aren't needed unless you want or need to adjust the brightness.

Purchased this for work when I no longer needed to be in office daily. It does not require a power source, which I love because I HATE too many cords. Display is nice, just hooks in through a single USB and voila, dual screens for working in multiple excel or ppt files etc. highly recommend. Very light and comes with its own case. The screen size is portable but probably not to take on a plane- you could easily pack in a suitcase and maybe a larger backpack.
