I have an APC Back-UPS XS 1500 I got years ago and have replaced batteries a couple times. With our expanding electronics collection I wanted a new UPS that had pure sign wave and saw APC had the new BGM 1500 out and decided I wanted to give it a try.
Unpacking:
The UPS came very nicely packaged in a heavy company logoed display box. Inside the UPS was packed well protected by cardboard and eco-friendly framework “everything inside the box was basically recyclable”. The UPS itself has a good heft to it, like our old ES 1500, it’s not exactly light tipping the scale at around 25lbs. Inside the box with it were a USB data cable and a quick start guide, that’s it.
Setting up:
The first thing I had to do was hook up the battery and this time the battery door on the side instead of the bottom, it’s much easier to access this way instead of having to turn the unit upside down. Under the cover the leads were very well marked and only the positive “red” terminal had to be plugged in. After that was done I plugged the unit in and let it start charging up, there’s a noticeable “new” plastic / electronics smell and after a day of charging it had diminished quite a bit, a couple more days for it to go completely away. So be aware of this when you purchase and you may want to charge up in a separate room or outside if protected and away from heat.
After getting it fully charged “I left it plugged in overnight”, I proceeded to swap out our old unit. The one thing I noticed right away that the outlets on the back are not as clearly labeled as they are on our old unit. With the older model the outlets that have battery and surge have a grey square around them. With this new unit the outlets simply have a line with a label running around the outlets, so you really have to check which outlets you are plugging stuff into, otherwise hooking up equipment is pretty much the same.
There’s one really nice feature they’ve’ added to the BGM is there’s a LED light on the back that lights up the outlets quite well and is really handy when plugging in devices in a dark corner or under the desk “our old unit didn’t have this” and is a very welcome feature.
Use:
Everything is pretty much the same as the older unit use wise and PowerChute personal identified it right away. The display is a good bit larger than the older model and it’s more on the top at an angle like in the pictures. It’s definitely easier to see from my chair, and the buttons are more conveniently placed now so I can see the display and press buttons without having to lean down to see what’s on the display. The only thing that’s a little annoying is the bright APS logo in white on the top of the device as you cannot turn it off and it’s quite distracting. I solved this by putting a piece of green clear plastic over it and now it’s much dimmer and for me esthetically more pleasing on the eye.
There’s also a large ring around the display that will correspond to information displayed on the screen like load, charge level, battery level, and when resting the ring can be set to numerous colors for a nice ambient light, “too bad they didn’t tie this with the APS logo”.
Power wise I have my desktop hooked up to it, it’s running a RTX 3080, a 10th gen I7 and a 750W gold PSU. I also have 4 monitors, a security system “DVR”, label printer and a Roku hooked up to the battery side. With all of that on and running a very graphic intensive game the display shows I’m pulling around 575w at full load, 190w while sitting here typing out this review. Run times show approximately 30min on low 190w load and just 7-8 min at my full 575w, not bad and pretty much in line with my old unit.
Conclusion:
I really like this new BGM1500, it has plenty of outlets on the back “even with all my equipment” and the addition of two USB ports and one USB C on the front make this one nice UPS unit. I plugged in my Samsung S21 and Ampere shows it’s pulling 750mA on the regular USB port and 980mA using the USB C port, not fast but very useable, plus my phones weren’t very low on power so they aren’t trying to draw for quick charge either. The ports also work with my QI charger without issue which is great for me as I can get rid of one wall charger with this.
I really like this new design, the display is larger and much easier to read sitting at my desk due to the placement. The front USB ports are very handy and I’ll be using them a lot, plus this eliminates a couple wall chargers freeing up some space. The ambient lighting is nice and I can match it up with the lighting of my desktop. The lighting on the back is a feature that should have been there a long time ago and it’s very welcome to see. The lighting is also configurable where you can have the ring and back light on or you can have one or the other on or all off, it’s your choice, plus there are plenty of colors for you to cycle through for your taste.
Overall If you are looking for a new UPS that has plenty of power for a gaming system, a few monitors and some other equipment then this new BGM1500 is going to be worth grabbing. I’ve been using APC products since the mid-90s and I’ve never had an issue with them and they are one of my favorite brand of power protection devices out there.

Important part of any serious arsenal!

My first serious PC back in 1995 (hush) came with an APC power backup. My memories are that it was built like a truck, but that it would power things for 2 mins - make a horrendous noise, and would just cut off with no auto saving anything. Just *POOF*.
Since then, even with a pretty nice gaming rig (I7-7700, GTX-1070, 32GB of Ram and terabytes of internal and external storage) I never once considered getting another UPs. I just thought "Technology has evolved enough that a generic surge protection power strip is enough...."
Then I began to think of how nice it would be not to risk losing data from a power outage. Even better, how nice it would be not to lose internet during those times!
In comes APC!
This thing is just as heavy (at around 25lbs) as the one from the 90's. But that isn't bad. Just means it's got some decent cells.
Unboxing revealed the Back-Ups unit itself, the usual instructions, and a USB --> dataport cord. More on that later.
First order of business was to connect the "red" cell via a sliding case opening. Seemed fairly straight forward. Getting the case back on took some effort. But that's more on me than the product.
I let it charge for a couple hours.. But, I became too curious about what the Back-ups could handle and I couldn't wait any longer!
I definitely wanted to plugin my PC and monitor. That's a no-brainer. But then I began to wonder how much I could actually connect (and reasonably still have power in doing so).
PC and 2 monitors connected, turned on, and it was at a 10% load! Whoa! I'll say it again --> WHOA!
Now I got crazy. I plugged in my modem and router, along with some important external HDD's. The load now shows 20%!! I would plug more stuff in, but I ran out of outlets on the back (6 back up/protected plugs are available). There are an additional 6 surge protection only plug-ins. Along with coaxial and ethernet connections.
On the front of the unit is a USB-C and 2 USB-A power connections for phones and other items.
So I connected the dataport jack to a USB port on my main PC as I wanted to check that out.
I can now control various aspects of the unit via my PC! This is awesome! I have it set to run my pc for 5 mins, and then power down in the event of an outage. This, in theory would keep my internet connection and network drives up in the event of an outage! SWEET!
The only downside is the LED lighting. However, it is right at home next to my gaming rig (which has LED lighting on the front as well).
All in all, everyone who is either a serious gamer, or is serious about protecting their equipment (which should be everyone) should get the APC-Back-UPs unit. I'm ashamed I hadn't thought of connecting mine until now, and I'm amazed that nothing was ruined during previous outages! Phew! I bit the bullet.
But you shouldn't ever assume "it will never happen to me". But with the Back-UPs - it never will!

I’ve been depending on and using APC surge protection equipment since getting into electronics in the 90s. My experience has only been with their surge protectors though and not a battery Back-UPS. After setting the unit up and using it, I wish I wouldn’t have waited so long. Right out of the box it has some heft and feels very substantial. Setting it up is as simple as sliding the battery door open and hooking up the positive battery cable and plugging it in.
The unit has 6 battery/surge protected outlets and 4 surge only. It also has 2 USB-A and one USB-C port on the front, as well as other ports one would expect, coaxial in/out, Ethernet, serial data port, etc.. The RGB lighting front and rear is a nice touch and can be turned off completely if so desired, though the APC logo on top can’t.
Testing the unit I plugged in my 65 inch tv, AV receiver, subwoofer, PS5, XBOX ONE and all-in-one. Pulling the plug to simulate a power outage and nothing! Everything was running just like it was still plugged into the wall. Having surge protection for your expensive electronics is a must, having battery backup to shut it all down safely makes it even better.

Great Device for Power Failures and storms

I live in an area with a lot of trees and the power goes out more than you can imagine. Since the pandemic started, I work from home more than from my office, so picking up the APC – 1500VA Backup/serge protector was an excellent choice.
For work I use a desktop with 4 monitors, well one is a 50” tv, and a laptop. I also have 2 printers and a shredder hooked up. For gaming I use the 50” and one of the computers.
I have not had any issues with an overload on the APC-Backup, the backup device actually tells me I am only using 20% of the available draw when I unplug it to test it. I have tested it by unplugging it and seeing how long it would take to kill the battery, while everyone use is different, mine drained right under two hours. Not a great length of time, but the device is meant to stop you from losing data with a loss of power, it’s not meant to be a generator and let you play for hours when the powers out. The battery charges at a decent rate, about 10 hours, which is fine since it charges when the power is on.
The APC Backup has 10 Outlets, 6 that are on the battery backup and all 10 have surge protection. It also has a 1 Type-C and 2 Type-A charging points for your phone or other devices. It also has Co-Axial and a dataline port to keep your internet and cable from getting blown in a storm.
I love that the LCD on the front of the device is at an angle, its perfect for when your at your desk, you can easily see all the information on the screen.
This is a great device to keep your electronics from surging and to help you shut your devices down safely in a storm.

I was able to replace two 650 UPS Battery Backups with this beast and very glad that I did. Even though this thing is not small it has a lot of power outlets and still takes up less of a footprint than the two UPS's I had before.
I have multiple vintage games systems along with PS4 and XBOX One X on this thing and so far I have had no issues with it. I like the led light option as well since these things are usually behind bookshelves or other dark places it makes it much easier to be able to see the plugs at night.
There is also a cool feature to control the sensitivity of the battery kicking in. I could see this being a nice feature if you have issues with steady electrical current in your house or if you live in an old home with older wiring. Based on the sensitivity it will switch over to battery if it senses the voltage drop or any voltage irregularities.
Enabling this feature is fairly straightforward and easy enough. The LCD on top is also nice to see in real time the readout of the system and what the status is. Overall very happy with this gaming UPS and I feel that all my vintage consoles and my 4K gaming LED TV are better protected than ever before. With APC I know it is quality just hope the batteries themselves last more than a year which seems typical of many recent APC Battery Backups I have purchased the last few years.

This UPS will suit your needs for gaming and/work in general. I’m confidently save my work when a power outage emerge.
A friendly reminder, ONLY 6 will utilized for both battery powered and power surge protection. It does have a led indicator to see the building has a wire problem.
This UPS is pretty big and heavy (~25lbs/11.3kg). The device is about a 1/3 of an average Mid-Tower PC in size. Make sure you have room before buying.
I highly recommend you read the manual/e-manual to understand the controls the of the device.
As of writing this review, the APC logo LED cannot be turned off and it’s bright too if you’re concerned about that.
I admit, it does have that fresh battery smell for the first few days.

I can't say better things about this UPS. I live in an area with a lot of blackouts and random power shortages/outages. This thing has already shown me it's value 10 fold. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it overpriced? Definitely. Does it do it's job and then some? Absolutely! Not only do I get all the readouts I need on the front screen but it truly gives me comfort knowing I have more than 2 minutes to shut everything down and get things sorted before losing power completely. I have a beefy PC, RTX 3090, 12900K, basically a custom watercooled PC, 2 monitors, a DAC, speakers w subwoofer, etc. Under a heavy load while gaming on my PC, the UPS shows anywhere from 26-over 30 minutes of battery power! Not that I need to play that long while I lose power but it's nice to know I have that buffer.
It has RGB but honestly, it isn't needed. Thankfully you can turn it off, as it's very bright at night. I'm okay with the light up color during the day as it's actually useful to let you know the UPS is functioning and also does a good job at showing how much is going through the UPS. The ring in the front will start small and try to make a fuller circle as your electronics are pulling more power. Really neat feature to be honest. This thing is great.
Again, the price is a lot and you can definitely spend less and get the same performance. But the readouts and what not, and just overall features this UPS offers is really great. I'm very happy with my purchase as I was a little weary spending a lot but needed something good that would last. Seriously this thing is a powerhouse.

Easy to use and setup and love the fact the battery is able to be replaced. More than enough outlets and you have more than enough time to shut down if needed. Living in the country power outages and surges are common so this is a must if you have ps5/4, receivers, and other items connect to the tv!

I've used a number of APC UPS units and these are solid reliable products. I've run this UPS for close to 3 months without issue. I needed a second unit and for a little extra the look is great to have by my gaming computer. You can see the load as things demand / voltage changes. I tested the back up and it kicked in and out flawlessly. I won't repeat all the specifications and features that other already mentioned, but set up was easy. Charge the unit first than transferred my equipment, (computer, 36" monitor, Alien router, speakers, and external backup drive) from the old UPS to this one. Adjusted display to my preference and hands off ever since.
Initially, there were few discounts, but lately you can find a sale on Best Buy which makes this even more desirable, (and might buy a another to replace another older unit which supports my NAS).

Very sleek looking UPS with lots of outlets on the back, including a light to let you see where you are plugging in. The only negative is the APC logo to my knowledge doesnt turn off like all the others, and its vey bright. So I would suggest putting a piece of black tape over it if you are in a situation where you want to keep things dark or color coordinated.

I like it and have had no issues with two units I purchased.
I use one for my OLED, Xbox series X, printer, and PS5. Handles all units well, and even if unplugged from wall, units have time for me to power down safely.
I use my other one for my POE+ switch that powers 4 AP’s over it through cat6, a router, a modem, a Phillips hue, and more. Zero issues.
Four stars because it honestly does just smell like battery. Really strong smell. I am hopeful it dissipates over time. Also, the cool LED lights cannot be turned off, so they’re always on which looks cool, but I would like the option to turn them off.

This unit successfully protects and, in a power outage, temporarily powers, my TV, video game consoles, network router, and HDMI splitters. That's thousands of dollars of sensitive electronics that are well-worth the protection. We had been experiencing very short power outages lasting just a few seconds but knocking off all the devices abruptly. This gives me some piece of mind as well as continued use until power is restored. I got about 30 minutes of backup power while I continued to stream Netflix and was able to shut everything down properly before the battery died in the UPS (audible alert when power level is critical). Wish I could afford to have one of these at every outlet.

The "APC - Back-UPS Gaming 1500VA - 10 Outlet/3-USB Battery Back-up and Surge Protector" seems to work as advertised. It claims to support a load of 900W. With my load of only 90W it estimates that it could provide power for 45 minutes to an hour, The box says that with a 475W load it could provide power for 10 minutes. With a full 900W load it should be good for 4 to 5 minutes.
It can connect to a computer through a USB cable to notify the computer to shutdown cleanly. But APC only provides software for Windows. Mac users are told to use an Apple-supplied macOS feature to provide that function. But since the Apple feature works with a lot of different UPS systems, it doesn't have that much understanding of any particular backup UPS unit, I suspect it isn't as informative as APC's Windows software.

When I upgraded from a low-end gaming/productivity desktop to a high-power gaming PC, my old UPS wasn't powerful enough to handle the increased wattage. When searching for a new UPS, this APC model caught my eye due to its unusual white color that wouldn't be an eyesore in my bedroom office.
I've used this UPS with my desktop tower and Alienware monitor for a couple months now with no problems. My only gripe is that even when the RGB lighting is turned off, the APC logo illuminates bright white, and I had to cover this in order to make my room dark for sleeping.
If you're looking for a UPS system for your gaming PC, I recommend trying out this APC UPS...if you don't like it, it's easy to return. :)

First, this works great, it keeps the power on when the kid pops a circuit breaker and it’s got zero issues working with my system when it’s pulling lots of watts for rendering video and animation. The only negative is that it is heavy. Way heavy. Like I’ve carried cases of beer that aren’t this heavy. Heavy, like if you liked in a 5th floor walk-up you could skip your kettle exercises for the day. Heavy, like if you dropped this on your toe, you would need reconstructive surgery to walk a straight line again. Even Spinal Tap would go “Whoa, that is heavy.”
