Chirps... APC C/S still not aware of fix

Like other reviewers have mentioned this unit has a very annoying chirp that goes off every 4-5 seconds. It's not any kind of UPS alarm. It's an electronic sounding high pitched chirp. Another reviewer described it well as a flash charging up. I can see how people may not hear it in a noisy environment. But I'm using this in a quiet home office. The reason for the 1 star: After a quick Google search I found that this noise is a common problem on early production units, serial numbers starting with 3B (my unit). APC is supposedly aware of the problem and units with serial numbers that start with 4B are fixed. Even though I just bought the unit, I called APC in hopes to have my unit replaced with the fixed model. The customer service representative I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about. She even went to speak with other team members to see if anyone heard of my issue. Even though the unit was fully charged, she came back suggesting it was the low battery alarm... Ugh... Since I just bought it, I just decided to take the unit back to BestBuy. I actually tried to find a unit on the shelf that started with 4B at BestBuy. All were old stock, starting with 3B. I returned the APC and purchased a CyberPower 1500VA backup unit. It cost less, and it works fine with no chirping. I've used APC products for years, I personally currently own 4 of their Smart-Ups. They were my go to battery backup company. Due to this unit and the lack of informed customer service I'm giving CyberPower a try. APC, it's fine to have a dud every once in a while. But inform your customer service to help current customers and get the bad units off the shelves. Obviously, there's a known issue with a few components you used. Don't keep selling the old units hoping customers don't notice.

    Chirp

I bought this product when it was on sale, and am unfortunately going to have to return it. While I have used only APC products in the past (we have 5 throughout our house) and loved most of them, my last one (had reoccurring issues with the battery and the self-test for the entire six years I had it) and this one have disappointed me. This particular device has a "chirping" sound every four seconds. It is kind of like the flash on a camera charging up. It is not that loud, but loud enough to be majorly annoying. Maybe in a noisy environment it wouldn’t be an issue, but in a quite office space or room it is. After doing some research (after I purchased it), I found this seems to be common with this particular unit. I found that ones with the serial numbers 3B1746XXXXXX, 3B1747XXXXXX and 3B1749XXXXXX (the one I got) seem to have this issue. I also read that ones with serial numbers beginning with 4B1806XXXXXX may have the issue fixed.

Thank you for taking the time to review our BN1500M2. It sounds like the "chirp" is cosmetic in nature and does not impact the unit's functionality. We definitely want you to be completely satisfied with the UPS, so please do not hesitate to contact APCbySchneider support if it is a continued annoyance. The APC 1500 BN1500M2 UPS has enough power for my fully loaded gaming PC with multiple video cards, overclocked CPU & RAM, multiple SSD, sound card, external DAC & amp, and multiple monitors. The new style display is outstanding compared to my old APC XPS 1300 UPS. The display is bright and large. Unfortunately there is one issue with the display. When the display is on, there is a faint but ever present high pitched whine. The high pitched whine is faint enough that you may tell yourself it is okay, but there are days where I wish I returned the unit. The high pitched whine is not present when the display is turned off. However as mentioned above in my review I do like the display turned on when using the unit. Overall I love the unit due to the stability of the voltage output, surge protection, and battery back-up, but I find the faint high pitched whine that is present when the display is turned on to be annoying and hard to live with.

Provides battery backup in power outages

The area i'm living in is having alot of planned maintenance outages from SoCal Edison, so I invested in this UPS. I'm powering: A cable modem, an Asus WiFi router, two desktops and two monitor. At about 300W idle load the UPS shows I have approximately 30 mins of battery run time. This is perfect as it is enough time to shutdown the computers safely and still power my modem and router. I bought this mainly to keep my modem and router online. They both take an long time to re-establish a connection if power is lost. The only downside and why I gave this four stars instead of five is due to a slight annoyance when running on battery power: The UPS makes a slight humming/buzzing sound this is slightly audible in a quiet room. This only happens on battery power and isn't heard when AC power is present. I'm not sure if all units have this, but my unit had a QC receipt with all the tests it passed when it was assembled and tested.

1/3HP Sump Pump. Chirp with display only

I did calculations for a 1/3 hp sump pump and discovered that it equals 250 watts and a peak would be anywhere from 375-600 Watts. When I got home I was happy to discover that my calculation was correct in that the approximately 600 W on start up each time was easily covered by this machine. I would estimate that it would run at least 20 cycles of at least 30 seconds. At this price point I’d be very happy with that in emergency in my basement. I am somewhat disappointed that this Serial number that begins with 3B has the expected chirping sound. I discovered that it only happens when the display is showing. Since I have no intention of keeping display on all the time it is of no consequence to me. That is why I gave it four stars and not less. That being said I would highly recommend checking the serial number and getting the 4B rather than the 3B if this is important to you.

I have used all sorts of models of APC UPSes and have yet to be let down by one. I have some APC UPSes that are going on 10 years old, and have no reason to believe that this unit will be any different. Compared to the old model, this UPS is smaller physically, and has a more readable display. I love the tilted display so that you can see it without bending over. This unit is powering a 27" iMac with 2 23" displays, a Thunderbolt 3 dock, several extenal HDDs, an Ethernet switch, and powered speakers, and it looks like I'll get around 30 minutes of runtime powering all of that. That's about 10 minutes longer than the unit that this one is replacing (which will now be serving network closet duty). I did not notice any clicking noises coming out of the unit unlike some of the other reviewers. I did however, notice a bit of a high pitched noise while the LCD is on. It is fairly quiet, and it doesn't really bother me much to be honest. You won't be able to hear it with most normal computer related tasks going on.

I've had good experiences with APC UPS units for years, so when the one I've had for 5 or so years started to die (something that happens due to battery failure) I decided to just buy a new unit rather than a replacement battery. The thing about a UPS device is that you want them to be essentially invisible until they are called into play due to a brownout or blackout. As it happens in the few months since I purchased this unit I have not suffered anything like this, so there's not much to say. Since modern electronics - computers, TV's, etc. are all ever more sensitive to poor quality power (brownouts, RF noise, etc.) I have them on all my electronic gear, and recommend to my friends that they do as well. Again, with luck you will never need the service of one, but if you do thanks to a storm-caused blackout in the middle of working on a project, you'll ba glad you had the additional 20 minutes to power everything down properly.

Our radio station operates an FM translator which runs on 110 volt or 220, we choose the 110. When we upgraded from a smaller transmitter on an older APC unit, we wanted the same brand. The capacity of this one can handle the load of the new FM transmitter and some other minor rack equipment, and while it's loaded to above 90 percent, it is not complaining in any way, and the 3 minutes of approximate run-time at this load is more than enough time for our generator to fire-up if we lose grid power. APC's warranty is excellent, and they stood by it when we had one unit go bad,and promptly received a replacement. I have nothing but good things to say about the APC products and their service.

Regarding the APC - Back-UPS Pro 1500VA Battery Back-Up System: Let me start by stating upfront that our usage with this product is not normally associated with an APC product. We are using this as a battery backup for our on demand heating system. And works excellently. Most use this as a backup for a computer and /or the periphery associated with the same. But I will say that the power needs of our unit at Min/Max needs are met, and by calculation, will hold power for approximately 3-6 hours which is fine as historically our outages last about 1-2 hours or less. The APC company makes excellent products and we feel good about this one. Thank you Best Buy for having this product available! Cheers

    Still Haven't Fixed the Chirping

This UPS gives off a low chirping sound every few seconds. I saw a response from APC claiming that it was a known issue and they had fixed it. My unit still has that. I contacted customer support, but got no help whatsoever. I was given a set of steps to do a self test. I realize that the CS reps have to follow a script, but if this is a known issue, do I really need to do these irrelevant steps? After doing the self test and getting a result saying everything is fine, the CS rep responded, "I am glad I have been able to resolve your issue ..." This issue has not been resolved and now I get no response from APC. I have many APC units now, but I can't see buying more.

I purchased 2 new computers and bought this because of power flickering during storms cause Computers to shut down and internet resets. I has doubtful this would handle my loads but so far i am very pleased. I have 2 Alienware - Aurora R7 Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 - 2TB Hard Drive + Intel Optane Memory - Epic silver hooked up along with 2 24" LED monitors, a modem and a wireless router. While playing world of warcraft and watching the display it says I have 10 to 18 min of usage when the power goes out. This is more than enough time for me to shut down the computers if the powers goes out and this will keep my computer and internet from resetting when the power flickers. I will post a update later when I have been using this for a couple of months.

    Reliable UPS box

After several blackouts decided on this UPS box after reading some reviews. I’he had it for about a month now and it works fine. I like software that come with the UPS which shows me running parameters. So far the box kicked in for 5 seconds during power jump. Several reviews mentioned hearing chirping sound upon plugging it to an electrical source and so did I. After reading the manual I learned that you need to open up the box and connect the positive wire to the battery. After I did that there is no more chirping sound and it works great. My peace of mind for a brand new computer, and a printer and a few other things. Back up time is about 80 minute which is good enough for me.

Necessary protection for computers and files thereon. Doesn't take much of a surge to destroy lots of invested time during thunderstorms. A direct hit (I live in the capital of lighting strikers) is not survivable with plugs in the wall; however, a strike a ways away can be handled by this. It also protects against power off crashes, again, not rare in this part of Fla. Cheap insurance for our home office worksite. This device's voltage readout showed me that a neutral wire in our service had been severed by a very nearby lightning strike (the voltage pulled way down when other electrical items came on) which prompted a call to Duke Energy to get things right again. Just that assist in the diagnoses was worth the purchase price. Looking for a long relationship here. Thanks.

All the niceties are here. Plug layout in the back is such that you will be able to fit all your plugs, even those with large box attachments. USB connects on the front are extremely convenient if you place the unit in an accessible place. For those that are inclined, being able to see the power pull from your equipment and then visually see how much available time if you turn off certain pieces( monitors, speakers, peripherals ) you can get out of the batteries. But when all is said and done it's a functional UPS that does what it is supposed and will be ignored 98% of the time...... Which is as it should be. :)

I am in graduate school and was working on a long paper. Where I live we lose power often, which this one night we did and I lost all my work. This battery backup system is amazing. Again, just the other night I was working on a paper and we lost power. Immediately it kicks on and my computer is still powered up, gave me plenty of time to keep working then to save. Only down size is it is pretty heavy. The size doesn’t take up much area. Easy to setup, light up screen. Alarm turns on to let you know when you are working on batter. Has USB ports to power your devices.

For many years , I have been using APC products to protect my computer from power surges and power outage which are common here in the sunshine state of Florida during and after Thunderstorm and Hurricane season. This is a must have if you want to protect your investment. Batteries are replaceable but last 5 years or longer based on my personal experience. Would I recommend this product -without Question,Yes ! The Newer model provides you great details on watts and load levels in realtime.

This is a great backup for any electronic goods that may be sensitive to abrupt power outages. I typically use the battery backup for computers, or electronics, that use non-SSD hard drives. This battery backup should give you enough juice to power down . your devices in a black/brown out. In the case of those events, the unit will make a buzzing/hum sounds. I haven't had to shut down my devices due to black out, but I can tell the battery backup kicks in during brown outs because of the buzzing/hum sounds. If you want to support devices that consume more power, just buy a unit that has a larger VA capacity.

This is my first battery back up and it works great. And even with all of the complaints of this models slight chirping noise, well it isn't that bad. The reason I didn't give a five star rating,is because every once in awhile the unit will not power on. I found out that I have to disconnect, then reconnect the battery to get it to power on. I don't know if it's just the one I have or if it is my luck with things. Other than that,I'm glad that I have a battery back up. With that said,I'm not sure if APC is the best to go with. And when it's time to replace the battery,I may decide to try another brand.

Love the display with various usage stats. Love the usb-a & usb-c. Like the 10 outputs in back. HATE the high pitched whispy chrips noises every 5 seconds. It's not the screaming chirps when power is lost, it's very quiet, but it drives me crazy. I have purchased 2 of these units new. Returning both. My office has wood floors and is extremely quiet. Perhaps some people wouldn't notice - especially in standard office with carpeting and competing noises.

A UPS or uninterruptible power supply is a staple if you want to safeguard your equipment and files. I had an older model that was really old die on me and I decided to upgrade to this one. With one of these even if the power goes out you are still able to run your modem, router and phone lines and even a computer for a while until power goes back on. I chose this model because I have a fairly powerful server that I want to keep running, at least long enough to safely shut it down to save my data, as well as keep internet going as well.
