A UPS only has to do one thing right in my eyes and that's provide back-up when the power goes out. This is the first APC unit I have encountered that fails to do that. Worse yet, the unit fails intermittently so I'm expected to accept that behavior and "hope" it works when I'm not home to reset it. When street power fails, it might work flawlessly OR it might shut-down, emit a blaring alarm and display F02. Unfortunately, if disconnecting and reconnecting the battery resets the unit, it's considered working by tech support. So, it's actually an Occasionally interruptible Power Supply. Do not buy one.

Unpacking the power unit was straightforward by removing the eco friendly pressed cardboard. Getting it out of the box was a different matter, it required some muscle. This thing is heavy, 90% of it (just guessing) is due to the battery. Plugging it in, after activating the battery by connecting a jumper, brought instant backup power gratification. I did try downloading the software per the instructions, but kept hitting a brick wall there. Unless I was really doing something wrong on the PowerChute website, the location the instructions directed me to were obsolete as we're the redirects on the website. After about 10 mins I just gave up since this UPS will be powering my home theater equipment and not a computer. Back; It comes with 10 plug receptacles of which the left side is both backup and surge protection, and all but 1 on the right side is just like a normal surge strip. 2 in/out ethernet ports and a data port as well as 2 coaxial jacks. Front; There's the display and right below it is the power, mute and display buttons. And finally 2 usb ports. I’ve connected a 65” qled tv, a blu-ray player, a hefty sound bar, Subwoofer and a record player . After running downstairs to turn off the breaker, because silly me didn't even think about unplugging it. The backup kicked in keeping my tech turned on with audible beeping to let me know I was in backup mode. The time it'll keep working is totally dependent on what's plugged in. I just need about 5-7 mins to get my generator going, more than enough time. The only issue that has me a bit worried is that the TV has a moderate humming noise coming from it, and I'm a little scared it may be harmful. This is such a great peace of mind piece of equipment!

First, this unit weighs a TON! I am a "woman of a certain age" and had quite the time moving it into the living room! I have plugged in my router so that in the event the power goes out, I can continue to have Wi-Fi. I thought I was going to have to write my review based on stand-by usage but low and behold, two nights ago, the power went out! Terrible wind storm! I was totally unprepared. We NEVER lost signal. The battery immediately kicked on and the Wi-Fi stayed steady and strong! Some in the household did not keep their laptops charged and therefore could not watch TV on them (oh well!). Phones stayed strong however. I was able to watch TV for a while with my fully charged laptop! At first, there was a steady beeping to let me know it was running on battery power (like I didn't notice the lights were out!). It took me a few minutes with my phone's flashlight to figure out how to shut the beeping off! After watching TV for a bit, I did shut the unit off when we were all ready to go to sleep. It only has about 300 minutes of run time with only the router plugged in and I wanted to save some of the battery power in case we needed to charge phones and other things the next morning. Luckily, the power came on overnight so it wasn't an issue. I was surprised that the run time wasn't longer given the weight of the unit! It feels like it should have battery power to run for days! If you have sensitive equipment you need to protect and general surge protectors aren't adequate, or if you have electronics that you need to run even without power, this unit is for you! Just bring a hand truck- this baby is heavy!

Review of APC - Back-UPS Pro, 1500VA The value of the APC - Back-UPS Pro, 1500VA will depend on what you want to use a backup power supply for. The intended purpose of the Back-UPS Pro seems to be mainly for desktop computers for which you do not want to lose work or suffer file corruption in the event of loss of power. Secondarily, it serves as a surge protector for power outlets, a coaxial port (such as a cable modem), and Ethernet port. Finally, it can serve as a power outlet extender. While all of the ten power outlets provide surge protection, even when the unit is turned off, only six continue to deliver power from the battery in the event of a power outage. The manufacturer recommend connecting "essential" equipment such your desktop computer, monitor, modem, and other data sensitive devices to one of the latter six outlets. The critical test for a power backup unit would be whether it continues to power devices during an actual power outage. In the ten years that I have been living in my current house, we have experienced only the briefest of outages, lasting a few seconds, and this has happened only infrequently. Until last month, that is, when we experienced a complete outage for about 24 hours. That outage is what inspired me to get the APC - Back-UPS Pro, 1500VA. My hope for the device is probably a little different from its intended purpose. I do have four desktop computers in my second-floor office for specialized and only occasional uses: music production, gaming, video editing, and statistical analyses. They are on only rarely. The computer I use all day, every day is the laptop in my office. It does not need power backup because it has a battery that kicks in during outages. What I wanted to do was provide power backup to my cable modem and two WiFi routers in my basement and surge protection to the multitude of HDTV electronic devices in that area (see picture). To configure the UPS settings, the provided manual recommends searching for and downloading PowerChute Personal Edition Software. I did, and it turned out that the software had been replaced by PowerChute Serial Shutdown software. I downloaded and ran the software on the mini-HTPC in my basement home theater setup, connecting the PC to the UPS with the provided USB cable. The process was easy and uneventful. I noticed, with interest, that the UPS predicted being able to supply power to the devices I had attached to it for 22 minutes. However, when I tested the unit with a simulated power outage by pulling the power cord, the unit predicted over 80 minutes of supplying power. The unit beeped as it should when I unplugged it. I doubt I would hear the beeping in the basement from my second story office, but that seems unimportant because the lights going out would be a clear sign of an outage. The beeping stopped the moment I plugged the unit back in. Whatever the precise number of backup minutes, the UPS would not be able to supply power to my cable modem and routers for an entire 24-hour outage. Documentation indicates that, depending on the actual load, 1-3 hours of backup time can be expected. This is not like a backup power generator that supply power for an entire day, although that is not its intended use. I should note that, although documentation indicates that the unit can be controlled remotely over your local network, this seems only possible if you have a networked computer up and running and connected via the USB cable to the UPS. I did not try this feature because I do not leave my HTPC on all the time. This lack of functionality seems unimportant because I cannot imagine needing to change configurations on the UPS. If I do, I can boot up my HTPC and made changes locally. In short, I think the UPS will be most useful for (1) providing extra outlets with surge protection and (2) keeping my cable modem and two WiFi routers running smoothly through very brief power outages, up to perhaps an hour or a little more. For these functions, the APC - Back-UPS Pro, 1500VA will almost certainly meet my needs.

Because of the value of my office setup, which includes a Mac Studio, an OLED monitor, and other high-end peripherals, I always wanted another UPS unit to protect it. While I already use two APC UPS units for my gaming setup and for my router and modem, My office setup wasn’t protected, and due to the limited space under my desk, I always wanted a unit that fits without any issues.I decided to go with APC UPS again not only to protect my setup but also to use it as a surge protector. Right out of the box, the unit felt sturdy and high quality, which is what I expect from APC. It also came with a quality-assurance test note showing when the unit was tested, which gave me a big confidence that the device was inspected and ready for use. The initial setup was straightforward. Based on the yellow instruction sticker on the side of the unit, the first step was laying the unit on its side and sliding off the side cover to connect the red battery terminals. The overall size is compact and fits under my desk. This APC UPS includes six battery-backup and surge-protected outlets, four surge-only outlets, and Ethernet ports. On the front, there is an LCD screen that displays input voltage, load level, and estimated runtime, along with an audio button to turn the alarm on or off during outages and menu button. It has also two USB charging ports, one USB-C and one USB-A. This plenty of outlets and USBs helps me reduce the number of cables on my desk. I let the unit charge overnight, and next day the unit was fully charged, and I immediately connected my equipment. I had to test the unit to determine its battery runtime. I unplugged it from the power source, and it switched to battery power smoothly. My devices remained on without interruption. The runtime exceeded my needs in case of a power outage, allowing me to save my work before shutting down. This UPS serves its purpose effectively during power issues, whether it’s an outage or a voltage drop. I feel secure knowing that my sensitive electronics are fully protected from power fluctuations. In addition, this APC UPS has Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), which smooths out voltage dips and spikes without relying on the battery. Such a feature helps in extending its battery life as well as protecting my high-end devices from unstable power. In addition to the onboard controls, this unit can be managed through APC’s PowerChute software. The software solution provides extra controls to the unit, such as monitoring the power outage events and battery status, and enables automatic, safe system shutdown. Note, the battery is replaceable, which gives this unit more peace of mind and value. Highly recommended!!!!

I opted to get this battery backup device because our area has infrequent blips in the power transmission. It only goes out for maybe two seconds at a time but it’s enough that I worry about my PC and especially my PS5 Pro console. I have an 8 TB external drive attached and every time the power cuts out and back on I get a warning message on the Playstation that my HDD was disconnected improperly and needs to be checked. Hasn’t caused an issue yet that I know of but I feel better knowing that this device is there to protect my equipment from surges and help during these power dropouts. The unit is equipped with a loud alarm so I will know when it activates. It has 10 receptacles, six are surge and battery protected, the other four are surge only so I plugged my clock, audio amp and powered subwoofers into the four surge receptacles since they don’t need battery backup and then plugged my television, PC, Playstation, both external hard drives, and my powered usb hub into the battery and surge receptacles. You might think it’s odd to want to keep a usb hub powered but my son games with a third party controller that requires a dongle so if he’s on when the power cuts out the hub has to stay powered for him to be able to initiate the shutdown. I usually keep my PC shutdown if I’m not using it so I don’t worry so much about that device, but the Playstation is either on or in rest mode always and even in rest mode it will flag that error message if the power cuts out. I was leery of pulling the plug to the battery backup but I wanted to see it work. I tried it first with the TV off and the Playstation in rest mode. The display showed that it had 347 minutes of power in that configuration. That’s over five and a half hours. We don’t typically have an outage that lasts that long but I feel like that’s more than enough to protect my gear if I’m not at home. The rest light, the yellow glow, stayed lit as did the pilot light on the external HDD. So now I need to see how it does with the equipment operating. I have to admit, I was more than a little nervous pulling the plug on over $3k worth of electronics while they were powered up….but I had to know! The TV is an 85” Sony XBR, much larger than the 42” TV they mention in the specs. The TV didn’t miss a beat, the Playstation didn’t flicker at all. Matter of fact, I couldn’t tell anything had changed except the Back-ups display indicated I was running on battery and the power fail alarm was sounding. Probably good to keep the alarm able to sound because I wouldn’t know the power went out otherwise, it’s an unnoticeable switchover. Oh, and the display indicated I would have 15 min of power available at the current load, more than adequate to power down the equipment.

I have been trusting my expensive and sensitive data equipment to the protection of APC UPS's for years. They give reliable protection from fluctuating power sources, power brown-outs and full power black-outs. They have never let me down on the job. The APC Back-UPS Pro Model # BN1500M2 is another excellently designed and manufactured Energy Star certified Uninterruptible Power Supply that meets the demanding performance and efficiency standards of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The new unit even comes with its final Quality Assurance Test results taped to the unit. (As a Quality Assurance Specialist, I find that very cool!) This 1500VA model tops out at a 900W maximum load at 120V using (10) North American receptacles with a NEMA 125V, two-pole, three-wire (hot, neutral, ground) configuration at a 15-amp current rating, plus (1) USB type C 5V / 3a charging port and (1) USB type A charging port for 15W DC in total. In this model, (6) of the (10) receptacles are both Battery Back-up and Surge Protected, while the (4) other receptable are only Surge Protected. The Battery Back-up receptacles receive power for a limited time during a Power Outage, so that sensitive items such as laptops, desktop computers, NAS's and gaming consoles can be shut down properly without damage or loss of data. There are also Coaxial ports with surge protection for protection of equipment such a cable modem and surge protected In/Out Ethernet ports. I have (2) printers, (2) laptops, (2) monitors and other items plugged into my APC BN1500M2 UPS and am no where near the 900W total. You can check your load on the unit's easy to read Power Saving Display. I am at about 240W with a few open receptacles. The lighter the load the longer the Back-up battery will last during a power outage event. The battery is user replaceable and should be replaced every (5) years or at actual end of service life. Please read the provided manual to get the most out of your APC UPS. I suggest you read and follow the well-written and detailed instructions to use the unit properly. There are many features and icons that I have not mentioned. In my opinion, there is a no more reliable and efficient UPS manufacturer than APC. This Back-UPS Pro Model # BN1500M2 does the job of protecting my precious data and delicate electronic equipment. I highly suggest this unit for friends and family.

I am in graduate school and was working on a long paper. Where I live we lose power often, which this one night we did and I lost all my work. This battery backup system is amazing. Again, just the other night I was working on a paper and we lost power. Immediately it kicks on and my computer is still powered up, gave me plenty of time to keep working then to save. Only down size is it is pretty heavy. The size doesn’t take up much area. Easy to setup, light up screen. Alarm turns on to let you know when you are working on batter. Has USB ports to power your devices.

Easy to setup and it is running like a champ. Today we have a big wind storm. Power has flickered but it has had no impact on the desktop attached to it.

Nice, compact unit with good features and plenty of outlets of different types. The front USB port makes it convenient to charge portable devices during an outage. I like that the batteries are replaceable as they will inevitably lose their recharge capability after five years or so. Has a software app that allows it to instruct a connected desktop computer to save files and shut down upon loss of power. I don't have a desktop connected to mine so I have not tested that feature. I'm using mine to back up networking equipment.

This replaces an older APC Back-UPS system, the 1000, that had been in use for five years. Now have both PC and Apple systems, multiple monitors, printers and other accessories. Because of the the consistency and high quality of the APC and the expanded backup outlets of the Back-UPS Pro 1500VA, moving to this new system was a no-brainer.

Great product. Ideal to protect devices from power outages and surges. Also, it can give you a few minutes to properly turn off anything connected to the battery pack.
