    Switching to iOS World

First a little background so you can understand where I’m coming from. My first PC was a PC Junior, souped up to double the ram from 64K to 128K. I read the MS-DOS, 1-2-3 and Word Perfect manuals cover to cover. So, I’ve always been comfortable in a keyboard world. In fact, I still use the 2007 command menu stucture in Excel because its faster and easier for me to remember the old keystrokes rather than having to look at the screen and figure out where the commands are in the latest version. I had a 7 year old iPAD and a 3.5 year old PC. When my PC started crawling, I started thinking what my next computer would be. We have smart TVs at home, so I figured out how to manage e-mails and online news via TV. So, I wanted something very compact that let me use Excel, Word, and possibly PowerPoint on the road. I have used MS Office for many years, but am trying to avoid buying ANOTHER copy of Office. In the iOS world, apps are purchased once and generally updated for free. I’ve been very happy with my Apple iPad, iPhones and Watch. Office 2017 is a single purchase which works on notebooks and MicroSoft’s Surface tablet. Office 365 is a subscription purchase which works on iPads. I decided to go with the iPad Pro because it’s speedy processor is likely to be servicable for much longer than the Surface. When buying a computer, you should view purchase price in relation to useful life. A more expensive computer that lasts twice as long could be the cheaper option. I did get the Apple keyboard and pencil too. Others have complained about the lack of a mouse. I don’t find that a problem, perhaps because I use the keyboard more than most. Moving my hand from the keyboard to grab a pencil isn’t that different than grabbing a mouse. Ditto for tapping the pencil vs. moving the cursor via a mouse. And the pencil is wonderful because it’s so much more accurate than my finger and doesn’t leave smudges on the screen. I don’t find the keyboard very noisy. A particular need for me was the size of the right shift key. I’m used to a double-wide shift key, which the Apple keyboard has. Some newer notebooks and WiFi keyboards use a single-wide right shift key and place the up arrow where the left side of the shift key would be. This would cause the cursor to jump up instead of capitalizing - a non-starter for me. I have been using the free Excel and Word apps on my Apple devices for several months. I find that large Excel files aren’t stable on iCloud. It occasionally crashes leaving an unintelligible file on your device. Fortunately, a recent version can be recovered from iCould.com. So I save key files on iCloud, One Drive and a jump drive. Apple also adds a sequencing number to your file name, which is something MicroSoft manages around. The free versions are scaled down. They do open password protected files, but in read-only mode. And they don’t support more exotic formulas or more sophisticated word processing commands. So far, it’s working fine for me on the road and I can clean up the rest at home on my PC. Not finding the lack of a USB drive option too much of an issue. I am using iCould and OneDrive. I also am using SanDisk’s iXpand drive, which allows me to load files from PCs to my iPhone via a jump drive in cases where I don’t want stuff on the cloud. And I can AirDrop files back and forth between my phone and iPad. That being said, I would like Apple to enable file sharing via the USB-C port since my iPhone 8 has a lightning connector and I’m hoping Apple will move to USB-C ports in the future. Now that Apple’s taking a beating in the market, maybe they’ll try to be a little more customer friendly. Bottom line is that I’m very happy with the iPad Pro, but still learning the various gestures and Apple’s way of doing thins. If I were doing a lot of heavy duty work (I’m not, since I’m retired), I would consider getting the 12.9” model to fully use the split screen option. For example, I was writing an article in Word on the left side of the screen while looking up facts online on the right side of the screen. That’s a little small on the 11” model. But I like the lower cost and more compact size of the smaller model.

I use this device for business and there is nothing that it cannot do. I use the stylus for meeting notes and the keyboard is great. I am running Office 365 daily, along with other industry applications. If the budget allows, I would go with the 12". I went with the 256 model in that I live in the cloud and do not worry about losing things. Additionally, I love the size and the inclusion of faceID. While this is not a traditional computer, it is a computer and is quite a capable machine. It is a part of my daily routine and find it to be indispensable. While I could have gone with a Surface device, the iPad is instant on and never crashes when I need it. Don't listen to the ads or nay sayers out there. The applications are solid and built well on the App Store. The reason I would go with the Apple device is simple: I can run Google, Microsoft and Apple apps all on this device. Google is limited to Google. While cheaper, the Google devices are limited. With the iPad Pro, I use Gsuite and Hangouts Chat, but I also use Facetime and Messages...something you don't have on an android device. My only problem with the device is that it is expensive and I think that Apple is getting a little greedy. While not an issue, my older iPad Pro seems to have a richer sound with deeper bass. Other than that, I highly recommend

This 11" iPad Pro form factor, screen brightness and size is excellent. The squared edge is not as finger friendly and with a case the Pro is quite thick and heavy, but it allows for excellent speakers that compare well to desktop computer sound quality. The Pro's power and wireless capability are exceptional. Face ID and related swiping is not as helpful on an iPad as vs an iPhone. Apple has not introduced the Face ID 3D capabilities to augmented reality and in-the-air motion controls of apps for some reason, even though this Microsoft origin'ed technology was created for that. Looking forward to the USB-C benefits and turning this into my second computer.

Very powerful, Face ID is a plus. Moving my data from my iPad Air was very simple. I would have given it a five star but apple could have made protecting this expensive device simple. The glass protection did not work properly. I used Geek Squad to put the protection on. I did buy the smart case, which is better than nothing. I still have to be careful, it will fall out. The screen will scratch easy, I have a scratch after using it for three weeks.

It is 3-d generation of IPads I got for ~10 years. Every time some features are new, you have to adjust yourself to it. In this case 2 new things: - no home button -wire for charging and syncing home button absence is OK. new interface is not good for an user: you have to have several of chargers: in your home, car , girlfriend home, which means I need to buy several new ones. Apple neglect to backward compatibility is notorius. Other than that, I enjoy it.

I liked this tablet a lot, except for the size. 11" wasn't large enough of a screen size for productivity, so I exchanged it for a Surface Book 2 . If you 're using it for media apps then I recommend it, but if you're a media content editor then this may not be for you. I have used the 12.9" iPad Pro and that was more usable. Other than that it is a great product. I hope Apple will make this closer to a laptop in usability in the next iteration.

I upgraded to this iPad from the previous generation iPad Pro. The larger screen is very nice and makes using an Apple Pencil much more viable for doing math and physics. I hear there are issues with durability - the iPad does appear to flex a little if I use a lot of pressure when writing. This is a bit worrisome, but otherwise this is a great device for consuming media. I especially like using it as a sketch pad for ideas.

The device itself is a great investment and I enjoy using it on a daily basis. The only problem I had was how fragile it is. The first one I had purchased had started to bend when I don't recall putting any pressure on it. When I got my second one I bought a case immediately and haven't had a problem since. It is great for note taking if you have the apple pencil and I enjoy the 120 refresh rate.

I don't even know why I bought it. I just got it when it was on sale ($650?) and I had a few gift cards to spare. I thought it looked nice and the bezel-less look as well as the swipe gestures made it nice to use with my iPhone XS Max. Do I need it? Probably not (the Pro at least), but it's made certain parts of my productivity a lot easier.

This is by far the fastest tablet I have had the pleasure of using. The battery life is great, lasting all day. The processing power is incredible, leaving the 10.5 in the dust. The only downside is the camera and the price. The camera is worse than the 10.5 iPad Pro having only 5 elements instead of 6. If you aren’t going to be using it constantly for big projects then you shouldn’t buy the pro.

I am still using my iphone 7, so face ID is a completely new experience for me. I'd say most of the time, it worked great, and the iPad ran smoothly and better than my old 9inch ipad pro. There's time due to how I used to hold the ipad, the face ID camera is covered and took more effort to unlock. Not a deal breaker, but I do think some like me will take a lot more time to get used to it.

I upgraded from the iPad Pro 10.5 as I needed Face ID for app testing. The new iPad Pro 11 doesn't disappoint. The battery life has improved and I love the edge to edge screen. However, the display is not that different to the eye than the 10.5 in terms of quality and the camera is actually not as good either. Glad I updated but I think a few things took a step backwards.

iPad Pro 11-inch. Is it a good tablet? Yes, obviously it is. In fact, I think it is the best pure tablet ever made. All aspects are outstanding. It has a great build quality, a very pretty display, outstanding performance, and great software. Other features like those four speakers, the cameras, and Face ID are very good too. And the Apple Pencil

I bought this iPad for my wife, who is yet to adopt it, as the user experience is so much different than her old Pad. Maybe I got myself a new device... I will say that the help in shopping at Best Buy was sub-optimal, as they didn’t even have this model on dislplay. I’ve observed this with other devices, like Apple Watch - very disappointing.

I would have definitely given this iPad 5 stars if it came with the usbc to 3.5 dongle for headsets... I know it’s only $10 dollars so more the reason for Apple to include it, I haven’t found the right earbuds to work the way I like with this device. Everything else is pretty much great! Would definitely recommend...!

I have been using the 11" for about a week now after updating from the 9.7" pro. The new 11" is much faster, slightly bigger and thinner. I have not noticed any bent problems, so hopefully it stays that way. It has been great, but I just hate that it doesn't have a headphone jack. Just have to adjust to it, I guess.

Powerful, new Apple Pencil good too, but heavier than I expected. I bought this to replace iPad Air2 which is super light. This new unit is closer in weight to the original iPad (like 1.5lbs). Very powerful, and the pencil has zero lag - double tapping the pencil (to erase) is cool, but doesn't always register.

The Smart Cover on this iPad is awkward in staying on. But the iPad itself is great and might be better used without a Smart Cover. Which makes it less ideal to bring with you everywhere. Otherwise, another great Apple tablet, especially with Pro Motion.

this product is plenty powerful but at a cost. As always Apple packs that iPad pro models with plenty of power however this year's model seems to be flawed when it comes to build quality. It's flimsy feeling and comes slightly bent right out if the box. Hopefully this will be fixed down the road.
