It was pretty much the same price, charges way faster, and is more durable.

Great for fast charging for iPhone XS Max

When you purchase the pricy XS Max Apple will give you the much lower 5W power adapter. I am using a Samsung Wireless charger, but connected the USB into this Apple 12W has bumped up the speed of the QI charging. The free 3 months of Apple Music (promoted as of April 20, 2019) is a nice perk also! The price of that music service alone is $9.99 a month. So a Apple charger on sale for $16 and getting about $30 worth of almost unlimited music for 120 days, it's not a bad deal.
