It was expensive for an out of date computer but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Higher watt MagSafe2 works with MacBook Air

Apple Power brick

Apparently, using an off brand power brick did not power up this laptop. After purchasing this 60W power brick, the laptop came back and loaded the catalina OS without a hitch. Once the OS came back into full view, it informed me it had a battery failure problem. Whatever problem i had with the off brand power brick, this apple power brick solved it and allowed me to boot the OS so i could see the service message.
