Had to replace mine recently because the white plastic end of the cord started to peel off. The brick itself was fine. The fraying was small at first but then just continued to flake off with very minimal contact. I thought maybe I handled the cable poorly but friends had the same issue. It lasted me about 4 years with quite a bit of travel involved. This isn't too bad for apple but other laptop chargers I've used are just more durable for a lot cheaper.
