Our cat loves to pull the cable out of its magsafe connection, and after that happened a couple times it no longer functioned. Prior to that after about two years of usage and storing in a backpack the connector eventually no longer worked, probably from pulling out of the backpack and the cord getting snagged etc. Since purchasing this new unit Ive kept it away from cats and store only in its own zippered pouch on the backpack and it is holding up.

Buy the authentic chargers from BestBuy, Apple, or any brick and mortar store. I’ve sampled many pure online retailers just to see what they’ll send and most of the time, it’s some knockoff that doesn’t perform (overheats) or doesn’t send the right charge information to the laptop. After five or so trials throughout the years, safest bet is to get it directly from an authorized brick and mortar retailer. That said, per apples mantra, cable is very flimsy and although mine did last about 6 year and is still going, it was used under very low stress conditions.

Definitely worth buying authentic apple charger for Mac Book Pro. Charges fast, and does not get hot like my old charger.

I purchased this to replace the power adapter I had. Over the three years the part of the wire nearest the adapter wore out due to constant bending. The outer insulation broke revealing the internal wires. Eventually those broke also. This was a bit of a hazard. The design issue is that if one winds the cord around the built-in retractable cord "holders", that part of the wire ends up bent almost 90 degrees. The solution is that one has to leave a fairly large loop in place prior to winding around the "holders". This loop allows the wire to come out of the adapter in a straight line and then slowly curve until one can wind the rest of the wire around the holders. So just a bit of thought, time and caution; however, a better design would be nice.

So lucky I found this. I stopped by the Apple Store for help to make sure I was buying the exact same charger. They were great and helped give me the exact model number. Unfortunately they were out of stock but Best Buy came through and had a few in stock locally. Works great.

This replaced a cheaper charger I bought of Amazon that ended up turning brown from the how hot it was getting. I cut the cord on that one and bought the real apple charger and it's been working great.

Had to get a new adaptor when my dog ate my fiancées power cord. Went to Apple first but hey we're no help. Second stop, BestBuy! Walked up and found what I needed however it got better. The box I grabbed was not only what I needed, but was a previously opened box and was marked down by some. This was the best news ever. I never have been this lucky here before so that was a plus. I'm always a in the market for discounts or coupons and this was right up my alley. Much appreciated.

After 4 yrs of the original cord I had to break down and purchase a new one. I hate that Apple is pricey on their accessories. Had to do it though and works just fine.

Had to purchase a new charger after my old one failed. Over priced as always. But a needed purchase. Make sure you buy official Mac gear and not a knock off protects your computer and lasts longer

This was exactly what I needed for my college son for his computer. Worked perfectly. Would definitely buy again.

There are some things we can take shortcuts on. Laptop power supplies should not be one of them. Using an official Apple power supply guarantees a certain amount of QC went into the manufacturing process. Using a third party power supply could void your warranty! I recommend if you are looking to save money, you do it with cables or media adapters, not your power supply. The 85W MagSafe2 power supply is exactly the same as what you'd get with your MacBook Pro. I would like options for colors, but we are stuck with white.

I lost my other one, so I bought a new one. These are great and last way longer than any 3rd party chargers.

My original barely lasted past the original warranty of my $4000 plus dollar MacBook pro. So dropped another almost $100 on this new proprietary AC adapter.
