Great earbuds but they don't stay in my ears

Let me start this review by saying that I am continually on the hunt for a great pair of wireless earbuds. I have a couple of wireless headphones that fit my needs but I have yet to find a pair of great wireless earbuds. I have tried neckband models, ones with wires running between the earbuds, and truly wireless earbuds. I thought the AirPods would be perfect but I'm still searching. These earbuds just don't stay in my ears. I can put them in, turn my head left or right, and one (or both) will fall out. I even purchased a $20 Insignia AirPods kit just to get these to stay in. It works but I have to remove the earbud covers and re-attach them every time I put the AirPods in their carrying/charging case. It's a pain and something I shouldn't have to do. Now, if the AirPods actually fit my ears, these would have been great. They sync automatically with iPhones and will sync (using iCloud) to your other Apple devices, their battery life might seem mediocre but it's better than most other truly wireless earbuds and is on par with other wireless earbuds from Bose, the case is extremely slick, and the earbuds are really portable. They don't have the best audio quality but that's something I can forgive with all the other features these pack. The person at Best Buy who helped me was incorrect about the product. Apple's EarPods don't stay in my ears as well. He said the weight of the wires helped pull the EarPods out of my ears. I didn't quite believe them but you never know. So I will reiterate this: do not buy these if the standard EarPods don't stay in your ears. These too will fall out and you'll be left with $160 earbuds that require the purchase of additional accessories that still don't really let you fully use them. But, if your ears are fine with the standard EarPods that come with iPhones, go ahead and get the AirPods. They are great for everyday listening and extremely convenient. I wouldn't use them while working out as they aren't sweat resistant but they are great for listening while walking across campus, working in an office, and in other similar situations. I would have easily given these a 5-star rating had they fit my ears, I should have not listened to the sales rep and instead went with my gut. I have since purchased a pair of BeatsX earbuds and, so far, they are filling my need.

While there are things to like about them, there are plenty of things to NOT like as well. - For me, they are relatively comfortable. But then, I was also ok with the fit of previous Apple wired headphones. They do seem to stay put fairly well, but I haven't really pressed the issue in any way to test them. - They do NOT always recognize that I have them "on". This is irritating because I have to keep removing and reinserting the particular Air Pod until it starts to work. And, there's a fair amount of lag between it recognizing that I have it in my ear and when I can hear something from it. - Sound quality, overall, is very good. Again, I liked the wired headphones in this regard too. - The fact that they are automatically available for any iCloud-sync'ed device on your account is both cool and frustrating. If Apple saw fit to make them available to all of your sync'ed devices, why didn't it build in support to be connected to more than one device at a time? Moving from one device to another is frustrating. - Speaking of changing devices, there's what I consider to be a very serious flaw in the way they currently pair. Let's say you have an iPhone and an iPad, and you're currently watching a movie on your iPad using the AirPods. The movie finishes, and you put everything away. Later on, you decide to make a phone call and only put in ONE of the AirPods, open up the Bluetooth Settings on the phone, and tap to connect the AirPods. You start your phone call. Mid-call, you decide to insert the -other- AirPod to help block background noise. Well, you're in for a problem because the second AirPod will attempt to connect to the last device it was used on and that will disconnect BOTH AirPods from your phone in the process. They work, and they generally work fairly well. Battery life is not great, ESPECIALLY since Apple expects you to use these like you did the wired headsets - for me, that means hours each day on the phone. I've had them run down and just disconnect, too, with no warning of any kind that the battery was low. They're far too expensive (IMHO) for what you get, and are very feature poor considering the price tag. There are better options out there, but Fanboys will be Fanboys. :)

AirPods are an item you have to do some research on before purchasing. Pros: - Works well with iPhone and can connect to any Bluetooth phone/device - lightweight - has long battery life (use for about 3 hours, then recharge in case, lasts about 15 hours total.) - small and easy to carry around - fun magnetic case to mess around with. - magnetic inserts to keep AirPods from falling out of case. - do not fallout very easily. Cons: - Full features can only be accessed on iPhone (no playback button or command without Siri) - some AirPods aren’t assembled correctly. - feels pretty cheap - Expensive (definitely not worth the amount paid, around $100 would be more reasonable for this) - sound quality - no external charge indicator. - sometimes it won’t connect properly. - case gets scuffed up pretty quickly but it is white so it is barely noticeable, still recommend getting a cover or skin for case. - no AppleCare provided for this item. Final verdict: The item is good not great. It is truly an accessory because of the high price. It is a good add-on if you love Apple products. Sound quality is what you get with Apple’s Regular earbuds, so no noise cancelling or sound quality upgrade. You don’t have a volume/playback function or button. Connection can be a little tricky at times. You can exercise in them, but it would be better to just purchase wireless earbuds that are a fraction of the price and are dedicated for working out. If you plan on buying this, check the earbuds and make sure the ends meet properly, some of the AirPods aren’t built properly so it can fall apart after minimal use.

The AirPods are very comfortable and fit well. I like the way they look, the way they charge in the case, and the size. I believe there are some design improvements that should be made though. Once is tapping on them to invoke Siri sometimes works and sometimes you have to tap harder than your first try, I'd much rather have a button to push so I know I have actually made a positive attempt. Secondly, I find that the calm confirmation tone when you put them into your ear and they connect to your device doesn't always happen. Sometimes the connection doesn't even take place and you have to go into blue tooth on your iPhone or other device to choose AirPods or see why they aren't working. I don't like tapping on the AirPods to invoke siri or make other changes like hanging up with someone which has no confirmation tone after you tap so I'm never sure the person is actually disconnected. I would much prefer some controls on the units. I like the charging case and they seem to have reasonable time with a full charge but not great. I also have trouble with occasional static when someone talks on a phone call on the other end. Apple has no answer and the problem is obviously not the AirPods because it happens with other brands of bluetooth headset. Also Apple had me exchange the original AirPods purchased to see if that fixed the static vibration in the AirPods speaker problem and it didn't fix it. I assume it has something to do with my iPhone 6 plus but no one seems able to find out what it is and how to correct it. All in all a nice product but needs some tweaking in my opinion.

I purchased these to replace my power beats. Sound is excellent!! Work great at the office. Love how music stops and resumes when removed from one ear or back in, Talking on the phone is very clear. No issues there. Working out with them... sucked! they move a little while laying on a bench they pause. Had one fall out. ( I disabled the pausing function and bought EARHOOKS) after making those adjustments, they are really awesome. They stay in and have no issues with loosing connection. Now here is another issue. volume! you can use siri but thats a pain in the butt. or you have to lower from your phone which is not convenient . Would love for a touch slide your finger volume adjustment on the ear piece.

This is my second AirPod purchase after my first purchase when the product was released. The functionality of these is exceptional, especially for those of you with multiple Apple devices. To be able to jump from device to device and the 'it just works' aspect make them worth the investment. HOWEVER, after about a year and a half of use on my first set, the batteries began to die after about 2.5 hours of music listening (HALF of what Apple states). I reached out to Apple support about this and they explained that 1) the AirPods were no longer covered by warranty because it was over a year and 2) the batteries had been consumed. My options were either to send in the AirPods for battery replaced AT $49 EACH or purchase a new set. While I'm super disappointed in Apple's customer service on this, I've bought into the Apple ecosystem of products, and until another product comes along this is the best there is. Just know that this is essentially a subscription plan for batteries because they won't be lasting as long as you would hope on a $160 pair of headphones.

Returned the Apple EarPods. I have the Watch and iPhone 6S+ 128. I assumed since the EarPods do NOT have any control buttons, just a double tap feature for Siri, I hoped I could have easy to use controls on the Watch. No. Not, disappointed. The EarPods are a heat design and the sound is better than the wired version, which both fit my ears perfectly (and 90% of people but there's that 10% with different ears). I was impressed with how other people thought I was on my iPhone due to superior noise cancelling the background noise. Once I was next to a loud bus and the person I was talking to said it was silent. Quite astonishing. I think I'd be happy if they would have put a gesture feature on one side or the other. A gesture for volume, a gesture for pause (but if you remove the pod, it will pause but gives way to losing one if you just want to pause the music. Sometimes I just wear the headphones so I don't feel obligated to talk to people. I had problems with the EarPods I bought and hey wouldn't pair after the second day. You need to ALWAYS carry the case because it's part of the whole system. I would NOT recommend these to a friend but would say, wait until the next gen in September. Or even a year from then in 2018. This is some remarkable technology and I give Apple big kudos for them but they need to improve for my $175.

I had these for 2 weeks and no matter how I put them in and after trying all aftermarket aids for keeping them in place (ear skinz, ear hooks, etc...) I could not keep them from slipping out. Mind you, they would not fall completely out, but they slide out enough where they have no bass and just sound bad when that happens. Also when you use aftermarket products to help keep them in place you need to take them off every time you put them back in the charging case which is a huge hassle. I honestly tried every option available to keep them in place which should tell you how much I enjoyed the wireless freedom especially when traveling or laying in bed at night. Basically, if you have trouble keeping in the wired versions that come with your iPhone in place these will really be no different but it helps slightly with no cables tugging on them. I did not want to return them but I did as I have to either find another type of wireless ear buds or just stay with the wired buds and the silicone tips because they stay in my ears perfectly and sound better. Incredibly innovative product which has seamless pairing but Apple needs to give us more options for keeping them in place or have a second design with different tips and maybe try making them out of a material thats not the most slippery plastic ever produced.

I've been eyeing these for sometime now, and finally after reading all the reviews, purchase a set. The are super easy to setup just open the case next to the phone and wala done. As far as bluetooth headset go, I rated these as middle of the road, Call quality is great, Battery life is amazing, and you never have to worry if they are charged when you pick them up. However Sound quality is about the same as the stock one apple provides with the phones, Which isn't anything to write home about. Comfort, these fit snug in the ear canal, I'd be hard pressed to make them fall out, but the problem i had with them. Is the left one fit with no problem and could be worn for hours, while the right just started hurting after 30-40 minutes of use, This pain is exacerbated, by the way you pause or play or change tracks, which requires you to tap, ( quite forcibly) on the earbud. Which may or may not give the proper response. Which requires more tapping. These are a good pair of bluetooth ear buds, and may work for the majority of people, but word to the wise, If the stock headset from apple causes you some minor or major irritation, these will do the same. Ultimately, I returned them due to these mitigating factors.

Bought these for my daughter. She is 15. She wanted them because everybody else has them. However, I would say if you are an adult and not someone subject to peer pressure, you might do better with a different pair of wireless earbuds. First, these earbuds let in a lot of outside noise. I think that is part of the reason why kids like them so much… they can have them in and listen to their music but at the same time hear outside conversations. So I guess that could be a pro or con depending on how you want to use them. Personally, I prefer to not hear outside noise when I have earbuds in. Secondly, they leak a lot of noise. What I mean by this is, I can very clearly hear the song that my daughter is playing when she has them in. For me, I do not find the earbuds comfortable but my daughter thinks they are great in the comfort category. So again, this is more of a personal choice. My advice, check out all of the other choices out there. I use the bose freesport and they are amazing.

I really wanted to love these. And there is a lot to love! I still think these are my favorites earphones for running. But wow is the sound quality not that great, and the mic isn’t too hot either. My biggest problem, however, is the super loud alert tones (you can’t change the volume of alerts on the AirPods). I have sensitive hearing, so I have to remove the AirPods and put them back in when the alert tones play, which can sometimes be when I’m not anticipating them. I’ve also found that in multi-person voice calls and audio in general, the AirPods have trouble balancing audio very evenly. Some sounds are noticeably louder than others for almost no reason. Outside of that, the battery life is good, the fit isn’t bad. Pairing process is easy. If I lost mine/if they broke, I wouldn’t get another pair. But this is my subjective experience, some people may find the alert tones aren’t that loud and they like the sound quality, definitely try it out before you make any decisions.

I really had high expectations for these. I needed a new pair of wireless headphones for gym when my LG's broke after 7 years of service. Boy, what a disappointment. Pairing is not smooth. Followed the instructions, at first it said "connected", then right away "disconnected, try again", did this probably 5 times, still no success -- says "Not your AirPods" WTF? Finally restarted iPhone, and they got paired after restart already. Now, it says they will now be paired with all your devices. Not so. My MBP still has no clue. OK, rebooted mac as well. Finally they showed up under Bluetooth menu. OK, playing music. How to stop? Tap. Nothing. Tap-tap. Siri. OK I guess I can ask it to stop playing. Now, what about volume? NO LUCK. When I exercise I keep the phone in the pocket. So in a public place I'll need to talk to Siri to pause or adjust volume the playback? WTF? OK, eventually I found out that I could change the settings to do play/pause instead of Siri on double tap. Still no volume control. And what if I really need to ask Siri for something? The only good thing I can say about them is that sound quality is very good.

Before you buy these, you should try the regular wired ear buds that Apple sells. You probably got one with your phone. If those don't fit your ears well, these won't either. I was assured these would stay in my ears, even if jogging or other exercises. I am constantly pushing them back into my ears because they will not stay put. This is a common complaint about these. They work great for some people, but not so great for others. The sound is terrific, especially compared to the Beats wireless ear buds I have been using. While the fit is snug, there is little outside noises that manage to ruin what you're listening to. I tried a couple of remedies suggested on the Internet, but none have been perfect. Another issue with these are the size. The case is tiny. You risk losing it if you don't really keep track of where you have it stowed. The buds themselves are likewise small, and if you set them down somewhere, you may have trouble finding them.

So I've had these for a few days and unlike some other people I actually like the design and style. It screams Apple which is what most Apple consumers are looking for. But, this leads to the style over substance conundrum... Yeah they're wireless, yeah they're fit with cool sensors and motion trackers, but they are first and foremost headphone...you know for enjoying music. This is where they fall flat. The shape and hard plastic design seems like it was meant to be a solution for a world where everyone's ears are identical. But in reality people's ears differ and this cause a poor fit for some. This poor fit of bad enough like mine causes you to constantly stress about them falling out. Meaning I only feel completely safe wearing them on my couch. The poor fit also hinders the sound quality. As the airpods shift in your ear you find you are constantly loosing or gaining a tight seal. This results in a pretty poor listening experience and for $170+ that's a deal breaker. Nice try Apple...please put more thought into the sound quality and fit for v.2.0

I saw someone with these AirPods and loved them immediately because they had no cords attached. I had to have one. I purchased two initially. Whenever I find something that I love, I want to share them with the whole world. I gave my son the other. During Spring Break, I went to visit my brother and his wife and purchased two more for them. Before leaving for the airport, I made sure to fully charge my AirPods. While waiting for my flight I decided to listen to songs I paid for until it was time to board. I listened to 6 songs and then the AirPods charging flashed RED! I was like what? Really??? The AirPods plays music with a clear crisp sound that I have never heard before but they need to revisit how long they can be used before needing to be charged again. This is my second frustrating Apple purchase but I love the AirPods over the Apple Watch. Will I recommend the AirPods? Yes! But I will also let everyone know that they don’t stay charged for too long. Back to the cords I come!!!!!!!!

I bought AirPods with the hope of a few different uses: running, workouts, calls on my iPhone, and to listen to music during normal daily activities. They were easy to set up, and the idea of being able to carry them in my pocket all day was appealing. The case is super small, like a pack of tic tacs. They sound great for music and phone calls. I had no issues when wearing them around while walking. However, I wore them for a run my second day of owning them. Not even a mile in they started to shake lose and I had to catch them as they fell out. I tried a couple more times, but ended up carrying them for the majority of my run. That was a dealbreak for me. I exchanged them for PowerBeats the very next day. I wish they would have worked because there are so many things I liked about them, but not being able to run in them was a dealbreaker. The Apple EarPods have never fit me well, but others with that same issue stated the AirPods stayed in so I thought I’d give it a shot. Didn’t work for me. If they stay in your ears you’ll love them.

I knew initially there might be an issue with the fit of the Airpods because the wired headphones just barely hung on my ears, but wanted to give them a try due to the battery life and Apple integration capabilities. I have literally purchased practically EVERY wireless headphones/earbuds and each have had there drawbacks, but Apply REALLY should consider making a customizable option for these. The Airpods are too light to not be able to keep them in your ears. A simple rubber cover would be great, but Apple seems to be dead-set on the one-size fits all option. On another note, it was refreshing to have a earbud that was directly connected to my iPhone. The battery life was great - could go nearly 8 hours with one pod on one charge. These, however are going back. It's too annoying to keep stopping to push these back in my ears every few minutes as I feel them slide. Beats are not an option, don't like the sound quality. Last had the Samsung Gear and loved the fit, but the battery life was horrible. Back to the drawing board.

It is a shame that it doesn't connect to Apple Watch unless I power off the Apple Watch and then it does connect to it, and once connected if you use them (air pod) with the iPhone and want to use them again with the Apple Watch I have to restarte the Apple Watch in order to have it connected. It is probably a software issue, but very annoying. For the price I payed for this to encounter this problems it is not a aceptable condition, it should it be fix before they put out on the market. Annoying, annoying to use with the Apple Watch and thats the only reason I bought it. I want to use the music out of my watch with out taking my phone. I am very disappointed because of that. Sound good, portability awesome, battery life good, no other complaint other than connectivity to Apple Watch. Fix it please. I also want to add I have try every trick on the internet to make it work with out the need to restart and it works for one time and once I use it with the iPhone and want to come back to use it with the Apple Watch it doesn't connect unless I restart the Apple Watch.

I used beats that clipped over the ears before I bought the AirPods so that is what I was used to. I loved my Beats but they kept breaking. AirPods let a lot of background noise in - which can be good or bad depending on what you use them for. I mostly use them for talking in the phone and they are excellent for that. However battery life is about 3 hours each for me. So I take one out and put the other in and charge the one again. I also use them to work out. I want to drain the crappy pop music my gym plays and it is hard. I don’t like to turn up the music too loud because it is bad for your ears so they are ok but not great in a loud area. They are great for running or biking or anything in a quiet area where you do need to hear others around you. Or if you are on a plane - excellent. I do like the recharging case - it works great. They pair easier than anything else I have tried and stay connected.

The concept behind these headphones is genius. I love the idea of never dealing with any wires ever again, however, they do not stay in my ears. These fit for 97-98% of the population, sadly, I do not fall into this category. Overall the clarity and headphones abilities to get loud enough were all up to par for a normal consumer. If only Apple had an in-ear option, or potentially more accessories for these, I would not have returned my pair. Unfortunately for me, these earpieces become ajar way too easy for me to consider keeping them. Doing any form of exercise or head movement would dislodge these easier than I hoped. I sure hope that Apple is able to continue down this wireless path with making the in-ear comfortability simplified as well. Considering I am a part of the small population whose eardrums are too big or too small and can't fit these, I would still recommend these to others.
