Customers appreciate the AirPort Extreme Base Station's ease of use, range, and performance. Many also highlight the strong signal strength and relatively easy setup process, resulting in great coverage. However, some customers find the price to be a bit high. A few also mention that the size could be smaller and that more Ethernet ports would be beneficial.

    Fixed My Wireless Coverage Issues

Our old wireless network setup required an extender and with AirPort Extreme we no longer required a signal booster and the whole house has a strong signal. It was easy to install (it is an Apple product after all) and worked great with our other Apple products. We like having the iPhone app to make any changes to the network as well, instead of having to go through a website or PC/MAC application.

I bought this to replace my Airport Extreme 4th gen that is in a roaming network along with a 5th gen Extreme. I needed to get Wi-Fi to the back of my detached garage where I have my Studio set up at the back of my property. The 4th Airport would get there but just barely. I replaced it with this router and now I get full blown speeds and excellent reception. I was going to dig a trench and bury Cat5e cable but now I don't have to. These routers are so easy to set up, even from my IPhone.

I purchased this product because I wanted more coverage. I connected my Express to this unit and got better coverage. The extreme also gave us faster coverage.

    Terrific Wi-Fi Network Router

I had a Net Gear Router and Extended for the last five years and it was decent in most of the house but the Extended was always problematic. I decided to make the switch to Apple since we now have iPads, iPhones and iMacs in the house. What a difference. We are very happy with the change. Hooking it up was incredibly easy. The only issue I had was to reinstall each of the two wireless printers on all of the computers in the house. They were both HP wireless printers. I believe that the printers were given a new IP address and had to be synced up. That was the toughest part. Overall it took about an hour to install the new network and have everything running normally. This included two iMacs and three PC laptops.

The setup was easy. Mac products "just work". The range is great and you can tell when the router locks into your iPad or phone with the beaming technology. network strength indicator immediately fills up.

We run a mix of Apple and PC products on 3 floors in our 2500sf home. None of us are tech savvy and require a plug 'n play approach. The AirPort Extreme delivers! We were told that there might be some technical aspects with the initial set up/connecting solely with a PC. We used an iPad2 for this and the two products "magically" did all of the work enabling all other equipment - PC's, MacBooks, iPhones, printers etc. to connect throughout the house. The hardest part was choosing a password.

Like other Apple products, the Airport Extreme Base station is extremely easy to set-up, use, and administer. It integrated easily with an attached USB drive, which is used with Time Machine. This base station is working like a charm. It took less than 20 minutes to complete the set-up for both the base station and Time Machine. Yes, this base station is more expensive than others, but it works and so does Apple's Tech Support. I highly recommend Apple's Airport Extreme.

Had an earlier version that finally died after 8 or 9 years of use. Changed to a different brad ISP provided and I hated it. Dropped out all the time constantly restarting. Got fed up, back to Best Buy to purchase this and I couldn't be happier. Always on, no drop outs. In fact I can walk half way down my block and still get a signal. Only have 1 apple device connected, rest are PC and Android, works great with both. Buy this, you won't be disappointed!

Set's up in about two minutes from my Macbook. Has worked flawlessly since day one . I do not notice any of the other devices on my network. Most of the time at least 7 devices on line at one time.

We live in a bigger home and this wireless router has enough reach to blanket the entire house. In addition, with an ever increasing internet enabled device list, it is able to handle the load just fine.

I purchased a new (latest gen) 2 TB Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme pair to replace my venerable but aging Apple AirPort network. The old network was asked to perform some impossible tasks -- such as providing reliable wi-fi between the two separate buildings that make up my home, as well as to offer decent speed and reliable transmission to allow Skype, FaceTime, and GoToMeeting services to work well without jitter or frame loss. Generally, the equipment was able to deliver, but often I would get strange signal fade due to the saturation of wi-fi in my neighborhood. I had a total of six AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express nodes in the network, and I'd characterize availability at about 99%. Still, getting a strong and reliable signal to some of the outlying locations was challenging through so much drywall, siding, and distance. Thus, my decision to give the latest generation of these products a shot. Long story made short: I've been using the new TimeCapsule and AirPort Extreme for a week now, and they have performed absolutely flawlessly. Based upon a quick test of the new nodes and their beam forming antennae arrays, I decided to take a chance and reduce my rather complex extended AirPort network from the previous six nodes down to a total of two latest-gen units (the two I am reviewing here) and one of the older AirPort Express units in my garage. I consistently get a transmit rate of 243 Mbps between the new nodes, and a solid 54 Mbps with the 802.11b node in the garage. Performance has been flawless, and I have had zero problems with connection drops, channel drift (as a result of spectrum congestion), or choppy performance. This, despite the location of the Time Capsule in a fully enclosed closet, and the distant (100 feet-plus) Airport Extreme in an office space surrounded on three sides by wall, siding, and filing cabinets. As I intended to replace the previous Time Capsule, I decided to setup the entire new network from scratch. It went without a hitch, and I was able to completely modernize, implement the new network (with WPA2 security and a 5 GHz alternate service) in about 30 minutes. All computer nodes immediately recognized the new nodes and, aside from having to perform complete (but now very fast) Time Machine backups from all Mac nodes in the house, the wi-fi service has performed solidly and flawlessly. Packaging for the new AirPorts was typical Apple; very well packaged in quality materials that I intend to keep so that I can reuse the packaging when it comes time to sell these units. The equipment was well wrapped in tack-back plastic wrap to protect the plastic components from scratches. The units themselves feel very substantial in the hand -- again, typical Apple quality. And I didn't need to consult any of the documentation even once during the setup. Again, typical Apple intuitive setup and configuration. In conclusion, this has been an outstanding purchase and implementation; the products did exactly what I hoped they would do, and they have performed flawlessly to date. Five stars for the product. Five stars for typical Amazon fast, hassle-free delivery via my Prime membership

Signal is strong and connected devices stay connected. Don't have to reset or power on and off every other day like I did with my Netgear, Linksys, and other routers. This is worth the extra $$

I did some research on the latest and greatest routers in the market. Even though the Apple router's specs are lower than its competitors, i decided to buy one since all my personal electronics are Apple devices. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it was to set it up and how great it works. I haven't experienced any problems with it and the wi-fi connection in our 2-story house is consistently strong. Great router!

Needed a new base station to extend wireless to upstairs. Used old one upstairs and new one down stairs. All I did was plug in the new extreme and set up was just a few clicks. My old base station was recognized immediately and the new base station prompted me to add the old base station as an extender which I was exactly trying to do. Its like it read my mind. Couldn't be happier. Apple products just work. Simple but elegant design. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

I bought an ASUS RT-N66R from Best Buy on word from an associate that it was the best one on the shelf. It died within a year. I experienced excellent performance awhile back from the Airport Express and decided to give its big brother a try. Immediate performance improvement. A speed test showed exactly what I was paying for. It only ever did that when I was plugged directly into my cable modem. You really need to have an Apple device running the latest OS to set this device up without hiccups; I tried from my Windows 8.1 tablet. It didn't like that. If you're a so-so Apple user, you probably have an iPhone or iPod Touch you can setup from. This router is a great piece of equipment.
