Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the AirPort Extreme Base Station's ease of use, range, and performance. Many also highlight the strong signal strength and relatively easy setup process, resulting in great coverage. However, some customers find the price to be a bit high. A few also mention that the size could be smaller and that more Ethernet ports would be beneficial.

Recently changed from DSL to Charter Internet, like going from night to day! The new AirPort Extreme works seamlessly with our other Apple gear, iphone, iPad, iMac,and Apple TV. Have not had to wait for any buffering while streaming movies/television, downloads of email/photos/video much faster. Easy to set up, too, although had a little trouble getting HP wireless printer to join network. Was able to find printer settings with a little research, no problems since!

Was having connection/speed issues with my 1st gen AirPort Extreme. This latest generation AirPort Extreme greatly improved connectivity throughout the house and provides much greater speeds.

Set-up was fairly easy and has good range even in a two story home. Only negatives I see with this product, is that tech support coverage is good for 90 days, at this price point it would be nice to see it come with support for the duration of the manufacture warranty period of one year. Second would be attempting to utilize an external drive set-up would require someone who is tech savvy for those who own non-Apple PC's because of format issues with Windows.

We have three of these. All interconnected to extend the network. Never any issues and we are able to get the full speed of our internet service all throughout the house. Highly recommended.

It was super easy to hook up. I replaced my old version airport extreme with it and noticed improved Internet speed immediately. I kind of wish I would have saved up for the one with storage.

This is my second airport to install - my first one still runs like a champ after 7 years. Yes, I’m an Apple elitist with my Macbook, iPads, iPhones, and iMacs. But when we needed to cover three floors with no signal lost - this is the machine to do it. Setup is super easy. Plug it in the router. Plug it in your laptop for setup. Answer a couple of questions and you are running like a top.

We're a "cord cutter" family and our old cheap-o Belkin router of 5 years ago was really beginning to struggle. I went with the Apple router for two main reasons: Apple's reputation for high performance products coupled with their reliability (and warranty should something go wrong). The AirPort Extreme has met both of those expectations very nicely. Initial set up wasn't terribly difficult though my first attempt at it resulted in there being no internet connectivity. A quick Googling revealed the method to completely reset the router and the setup process worked flawlessly on the second attempt. I did the setup and configuration from the App for my iPad. I can also update the router's firmware and change settings from it. Since I seldom use my Mac desktop, having the ability to access from my iPad is welcome. We regularly access the internet from a multitude of devices. We have one linux laptop, an older Mac mini, an iPad, two Android tablets, an Android phone, an iPhone, a PS3, a Wii, and an Apple TV. The only device that didn't immediately play nicely with the router was the Wii. The fix for this was to manually set the DNS instead of allowing it to automatically configure. One of the driving factors for switching to the Apple router is utilizing Airplay from our iOS devices. My old router couldn't handle me attempting to Airplay anything if any other device was accessing the internet. Now, Airplay is better, but still not the flawless experience that I wish it could be when it comes to mirroring. Airplaying a video from a website (as an example, I just watched Sherlock from PBS's website via Airplay) works fine, regardless of what my wife and kids are doing. Mirroring is still a little choppy, so I still wouldn't recommend trying to watch a live stream of any sort or trying to play a video game via mirroring. All in all, I've been pleased with my purchase. I with that I could provide more concrete data as to increases in speed, but my previous router is too old for such comparisons to carry much weight. That said, the AirPort Extreme performs to the level that I've come to expect from Apple's products and it is a purchase that I wish I hadn't waited so long to make.

I had problems with other Apple Airport Express products before with dropped signals and resets. But with the Apple Airport Extreme, no problems with signals and no issues with setup.

I purchased this router in the hopes of improving my wi-fi speed and reliability for the growing number of devices in my house and to combat the increased noise from all the other routers in my neighborhood. Let's just say, the AirPort Extreme did not disappoint. Wi-Fi speed has gone from around 15 Mbps to over 100 Mbps. Having a clear channel at 5 gHz is also helped since the 20 other routers around me are in the 2.4 gHz spectrum. As of today, I have 802.11 ac all to myself and it is a beautiful thing. This router just works. It's not as configurable as other routers, but that does not matter. You simply plug in the Extreme and forget about it.

I had a 2nd AirPort Extreme and wanted to upgrade to faster speeds after 7+ years. The setup on this was just as easy as the fist one I had. I've never had a problem with either one

This product was almost too easy to set up and it works great right out of the box. I have it hooked up to an older printer and that works great as well. I would highly recommend this!

This was purchased to replace an older Apple router that became overloaded after Christmas. I simply swapped them out one for one, set up security, and done. I was a little worried that it would be a waste of money if it didn't fix the slow speeds at the house but it did. I was also concerned because it uses a more advanced protocol than DHCP but that was not an issue either. I really don't know what makes this router better than the old one but I do not get any more complaints from the kids about 'lag' when playing games despite our horribly slow DSL from ATT. If your problem is slow speeds and lag from an older router then this is worth the money.

While ease of operation was key, the performance upgrade, which amounted to getting another 6Mbps (60%) increase in download performance, was the very best part of the outcome!

I had the old airport extreme but distance wasn't that great in ahouse of about 4000 sq ft. This airport is great I have it on my desk at the corner looks great and gets signal all the way to the other side of the house upstairs in the bathroom. I like that it seems to adjust signal strength according to where u r at. I get full strength at ever corner of the house. and most of all its an apple, i have a mac and all iphones and iPads it sets up right away with the mac. up and running in 2 min. can't beat that. pricey but u get what u pay for and no apple product is cheap. build quaility is solid as a brick literally. don't hesitate just get it.
