Customers appreciate the AirPort Extreme Base Station's ease of use, range, and performance. Many also highlight the strong signal strength and relatively easy setup process, resulting in great coverage. However, some customers find the price to be a bit high. A few also mention that the size could be smaller and that more Ethernet ports would be beneficial.

I am not an Applehead so I do not recommend this because it's sold by apple. I do lots of wi-fi installs, these units seem to just work so much better than the Netgear & Linkys units. Packed with antennas, easy to setup, and better, stronger signal. The other plus is its easy to add an express to extend range in larger houses. Costs a few bucks more, but It's well worth the price. Highly recommended.

My existing wireless router shot craps, so I decided to give the AirPort Extreme a try based on so many positive reviews. At age 56, I now find myself getting frustrated if tech related items are difficult to get set up. This was a breeze. Very simple and straight forward. My Macbook Pro, my wife's Lenovo PC and IPad, and our HP wireless printer were quickly connected. We had many people at our house over the holidays and of course all the 20-somethings wanted to connect to our wireless network; no issues at all. We have a two-story 2700 sq ft house and the router is in the basement due to location of cable modem. The AirPort Extreme provides excellent coverage everywhere in our house including our 2nd floor bedrooms. Very fast internet connection; no drops. I am highly satisfied.

Amazing Router For Apple Users

This router is a no-brainer for apple users. The setup is pretty much done for you via the airport utility on a mac or via a quick download from the app store for your mobile or tablet device. You can either select to use the default settings for a rapid, easy setup or really dive into a bit more depth with settings such as DNS servers and more granular control. I'd highly recommend this router to anyone in the "Apple Camp." You can even add an external Hard Drive to the router and gain Time Machine functionality without paying for the more expensive Time Capsule.
For those in the "PC Camp" There are a lot of great routers at this price point and the recommendation becomes a bit more fuzzy. Basically, if you just want to set it and forget it, this router wins for reliability and ease of use. However you'd gain more control with another AC router. I run an entire home office through this router, but I don't have any Windows PC equipment anymore to experiment further.

This router is really good for business. It's robust and allows the ability to daisy chain or extend the router with more than one Airport Extreme with just the click of a few buttons. This can extend the router's reach. We've noticed speed increases as well. Bottom line is this makes setting up a network very simple and streamlined.

This airport has some pretty good speed and range. There are a few small things like not being able to fully configure the airport , but in a sense, it's very user friendly.
If you have a device on your network with a specific IP address, and another device picks that IP address up, the airport will notify you and change the ip automatically.
When transferring files from one PC to another it's like having a gigabit network. Fast transfers,
And decent coverage. My house is 2500 sq. ft. With the router in the basement , and it covers my entire house.
Very nice device!

The Apple Airport Extreme is simple to set up and configure and very reliable. With 802.11 AC capability it is extremely fast with great range. You can easily manage it from your iPhone with the AirPort Utility App. I would highly recommend this wireless router.

I have written many reviews on this so I will just get to the chase which is what everyone wants. I am in IT for 30 years, and this is what I buy as I can buy what ever I want and configure what I want. Bottom line is, setup is a no brainier (for anyone), it is powerful, but most of all above all other products for the home line, it is reliable. It is always up, and everything can connect to it. No hassles, no nothing, it just works. I have 2 of these, and have purchased a bunch of them for other home users. This is the one to buy regardless what devices you have at home.

For years I have setup my home with routers that were inexpensive and easy to plug in and go. I've always been accustomed to the speeds at which they provided and I never really had complaints.
Recently, some of my devices would drop their wireless connection each day. It was a pain to me and my family. I decided to purchase a new router and started to move toward a purchase that was routine. Until I came across the AirPort Extreme. i researched the reviews and thought let's try it.
OH WOW! It was super easy to get my network up and running. I have 5 Apple products, 2 Windows devices, XBOXone, Bluray player, and TV all connected. 2 of these items are using the wired ports while all remaining items are wirelessly connected. The devices are typically on at the same time and we have never experienced a speed reduction.
Speaking of speed. My wireless internet used to drag around 10-15Mbps from my high speed service that says it runs at 100Mbps. I now crank speeds of 40-50Mbos wirelessly. My wired connections rip at 80-90Mbps!!
The signal strength is awesome. My devices stay connected on all 3 levels of my home. I now have connection out on my patio and in the garage!!
I am more than overjoyed with this purchase. It's ease of install, speeds, signal strength, and stability are very welcoming. I have suggested this to friends and family and highly suggest it for you.

No problems connecting to the internet with my MacBook Pro; took me less than 2 minutes. It was another story with my two Windows 7 machines (home & work ). Generally speaking, I'm comfortable with going to the control panel & playing around with the settings. In this case, I went round and round trying to figure out the right setting to establish network connectivity. Eventually I figured it out and overall I'm pleased with the purchase. I have had the Apple AirPort for two months now, and have not experienced any problems in terms of reliability and speed. The signal strength is strong throughout my home to include the basement. I would recommend this product to Apple users where setup was a snap; some caution for Windows users who aren't comfortable going into the Control Panel to make Network and Internet configuration changes.

This is my first Apple router and I'm very impressed. The wireless AC has incredible range. I can use wireless outside approximately 80-90 feet from the router. Web pages load much faster than with the N router I had before. If you have an IPhone or IPad or an Apple Apple computer, you can set this up in about a minute. No struggling to get it hooked up to your home network. I've only been using for about 2 weeks but so far so good! Not that this matters but it's a much nicer looking router than any of them out there. It doesn't have those annoying blinking lights, just a small green light that stays on if everything is running properly. Very happy with my purchase!

My home is too big for one router to reach across the whole house. We just installed Centurylink's fiber internet at 1000mbs. I hooked up the AirPort Extreme to the Centurylink wiresless router with a 100' Ethernet cord that runs through the walls into a bedroom on the other side. I activated both 2.4ghz and 5ghz on the Wireless Extreme. I put the same SSID and passcode on both routers. I love the AirPort Extreme. It's range is long and the connection is steady. What I like the most is the 5ghz network. With my fiber internet, I consistently speedtest around 260mbs down and 290mbs upload on my iPhone 7 plus. My MacBook Pro 2011 only gets to 80mbs but it's probably because the MacBook doesn't have the ac wireless card. Setup was easy. I read online how to get the two router setup to work. AirPort Extreme was easier to configure then the Centurylink. I will replace the wireless function in the Centurylink router with another AirPort Extreme when I want to spend another $200. I'll always have to keep the Centurylink router as first on my network to talk to their fiber network. But the money maybe worth it because of the extra speed I get from the AirPort Extreme with the ac wireless functionality. To really use my fiber speeds I need to plug Ethernet into the computer and I get speed tests at 980mbs. I'm planning on getting a hard drive and plug it into the USB port for file management. I love this router.

This router is EXCELLENT! The 802.11AC feature is blazing fast. A 2 month old could do the set up. It's so easy. For the price, it is at the top of its pack. It has 6 antennas that are internal and don't need to be pointed in the direction you are wanting, they automatically align themselves! It's super quiet and compact for the power it produces. I live in a 2 story 2,200 sq. ft. house and I have full bars everywhere, no dropped signal. I would ABSOLUTELY recommended this router!

The Linksys router I bought over a year ago had similar specs to this Apple Airport Extreme but performance lacked. After a year the problems became notable with ongoing buffering issues. This Airport Extreme blows it out the water. Very easy setup in a mixed PC/Apple environment. Coverage is phenomenal and no buffering issues. With the Linksys, had an extender in the far part of the house hoping to improve coverage. Hasn't been required with this Airport Extreme.

I've gone through so many routers in my life (D-link, Linksys, Netgear, etc...) and they've all made me want to throw them at a wall. The Apple Extreme is the easiest to set up and manage of anything I've ever used. And the range and speed is top notch. I have 1GB fiber optic service at my house and I can pull 550MB wireless with my iMac in the next room which is as good as it can get for wifi. I would never let anyone I know buy any other router. Period.

This is an exceptionally well built router with substantial WiFi capabilities. It's so easy to set up using Mac or PC and really pumps out a great signal. One of the best features is the ability to pair with a second Airport Extreme (or an Airport Express) and flawlessly create a WDS (Wireless Distribution System) which basically means you can add a second router to extend your WiFi network coverage to very impressive range and square footage. Good

I bought this pricey router to replace a cheap Belkin who gave me intermittent service, and limited reach. Beautiful design, it has a strong signal through long distance, it has never failed and installation was simple.
One drawback was the limited three ethernet ports, so now I have to plug in my old Belkin to serve as a router and provide wired connections to nearby PCs.
If you need reliability, strong signal, and only three outputs, this equipment is right. Otherwise, get an additional router for a fourth connection.

One-click setup with your iPhone or iPad? Come on. This router is a dream. The only thing it doesn't do is serve you breakfast.
In all honesty, though - I burn through routers once a year (usually LinkSys) because I run a home-based business. The heat eats these things live, and so far - this one manages to hit the whole house without needing any amplifiers or extenders. Speed had an immediate boost and managing it is the simplest thing in the world. Best router for your money you can buy (esp. if you have Apple Products in the home).

Don't waste your money on anything else. I have 3 computers,3 iPhones, IPads, 3 gaming systems, and 4K televisions streaming ultra hi definition content all at the same time with plenty of room to spare. All my wireless devices work everywhere in the house and outside. My Fios router barely worked 1/4 of the devices on the same floor. Do not pass go do not collect $200 just buy this! And it took around 4 minutes to set up. And I still can't figure out how to set the clock on my microwave.

I've had this for a month and a half and it's worked flawlessly. It's simple to set up and manage with the app for IPad and iPhone. Works great with the Motorola/Arris modem I purchased. Best of all, Best Buy price matched Amazon and I got it for $179.
