Customers appreciate the AirPort Extreme Base Station's ease of use, range, and performance. Many also highlight the strong signal strength and relatively easy setup process, resulting in great coverage. However, some customers find the price to be a bit high. A few also mention that the size could be smaller and that more Ethernet ports would be beneficial.

The set up took only second using the airport utility from apple. Compared to the previous apple extreme router using N this router is much faster and has greater range. The FaceTime calls that used to break up are now clear and without interruption. Using multiple devices is now much easier since the slow down has been all but eliminated.

Updated my old router to Airport extreme in September 2015. Waited to write this review because a few rvws said no longer could connect or it failed after several months. Not sure why they some had issues. Maybe its thier ISP.
Well my Airport Extreme has never crashed. Always fast and consistent. Love it !!
*Strong signal and all products connect with no issues. Way to go Apple !

If you want something easy to setup and just plain works, I cannot stress enough that these Apple products are the way to go. I was up and running in less than 15 minutes.
Wifi range seems great on this router, and speeds are up to par as well. I use this as a secondary point in my home and it is as relaible as you can get.

The average price for a new 802.11ac at time of purchase was a bit lower than this router, but I chose to go with Apple not because I have Macs and iPads, but because it's a robust, reliable product that was very easy to set up. My wife likes it because it doesn't look like the monstrosity we used to have in the kitchen. She calls this stylish. I like it because I have a decent signal in every corner of my home, and the average speeds at those distances are at least double what they used to be with my old Netgear. Here's the thing. It's not for experts or people who enjoy tweaking settings all day. But that's what makes it perfect for the average tech dummy with a lot of money to throw around. It's as easy to use as any Apple product, and it's one of the best performing routers there is. Period.

I bought this to replace an older version that had been replaced by a modem with built-in wifi. I was unhappy with the modem's performance so I caved and bought this. I've been blown away by the performance so far. Using speedtest.net, I've found that my internet speeds via wi-fi are now just as fast as the devices that are connected with ethernet. I can get 55Mbps download speeds on any device in my house now, whether it's hardwired or connected via wi-fi. That is pretty nice.
Not sure how it would be in a Windows environment, but setup was a piece of cake in my Apple world. MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPhone, and a hardwired MacPro just plain worked. My Sony TV and Xbox connected via wi-fi without a problem. All the various video streaming devices in the theater connected without a problem via ethernet and a switch.
Very pleased. I was pleasantly surprised at the performance boost I received from this.

I bought this expecting the usual thrash setting up the router and wireless network. It set itself up in about 20 seconds. I just added the security passcode to the SSID that the Airport Extreme assigned. Couldn't be easier. In addition, the AC router is faster and the range of the WiFi was much greater than my old wireless router.

I have my router in my basement was my old router wasn't getting great reception all over on my ground floor. I wanted a router with better signal, and that was also easily extensible without too much trouble. After reading lots of online reviews of this router and how easy it was to expand coverage with a Airport Express, I gave it a try. It works great so far, and even covers the areas my old router missed. Some of the settings I was looking for (like DNS server settings) were hidden a little bit in the over-simplistic setup app, Getting up and running was incredibly easy, though. If you want a simple, fast, easy to manage network right out of the box... this is it. Especially if you are invested in the Apple ecosystem already. We've got 2 iPhones, 3 iPads, and 1 Mac Mini... So I would say we are. Works great with ALL my wireless devices, though.

After messing around with other routers for years this router is the easiest to set up (takes about 5 minutes), most reliable for all versions of iPhones and apple and non Apple devices and has an incredible range. I cannot recommend this device more.

This is a great router, easy to setup. It took less than 10 minutes to get the router working. great signal strength and also some speed improvements. The only problem I have is setting up the external hard drive to access from an external network, the instructions in the manufacturer website are old and they even have an older model in the pictures. The hard drive can be accessed when within the network without a problem. I am sure that this is just some configuration I am missing but I was expecting this to be easier to setup.

We have window and apple products in our home and have been having trouble with our routers, I've even bought over $250 routers hoping maybe buying a more expensive on might give us a better range and stronger signal, but over and over again we have been disappointed. My son who owns Apple computers wanted this AirPort Extreme for his birthday, I wasn't aware it would or could replace our existing router. We were using both but found out the airport express handled them all and might I say handled them beautiful. This has been the best router we have ever owned. The range in fantastic, the strength is great and the best part is that it doesn't have to be booted like we would have to do with the other routers. I would highly recommended this product to any who owns anything th connects to the Internet.

I bought this router for a second home, and I've had another for my primary home for about 9 months now. I bought the first one based on a recommendation from a Mac enthusiast at work who said that he's had one for a couple of years and has never had to restart it, which has always been a common issue with any router that I've owned. My coworker was true to his word, as this has been the best router I've ever owned. After 9 months, I've never had a problem with the one at home, and it has always provided fast, reliable internet at high speeds. The dual band feature is great as you can run both 5GHZ and 2.5GHZ. My neighborhood is really crowded with 2.5GHZ routers, and so that band is pretty much useless unless I'm desperate for the range provided by it. The 5GHZ works flawlessly, but because the router works on both bands at once, I still have the option of switching back and forth if needed. The only negative thing about this router is that I don't have a Mac of any type, so setup on a Windows 10 computer is somewhat less than ideal. Understandably, support for Windows from Apple is pretty poor. Their website doesn't provide the most up to date software to set up the router. It's still listed as Windows 7. But, it worked well after setup and you also have the option of setting up with an iPhone, which I do have.

5ghz the speed is great, the 2ghz has a long range. It reached 3 floors and the other side to my neighbors house with 2 bars and speed was consistent. Super easy to configure using the airport utility app on my iPad. It scans your area for other wifi signals and setups your wifi accordingly so it took a while to configure on its own so be patient if you have like 10 wifi signals because it took me like 3-5 minutes. After that I set up the name and password and I was done.It works great I've had no problems with it unlike other routers that were from the same price range like the ASUS one I had before which kept losing signal strength and or speed. Gaming with it was great no lag no issues with NAT and have multiple people on Xbox one and ps4 simultaneously and I'm so glad I got this router, had family over for the holidays with this router we had no problems at all.

I recently switched from Fios to Time Warner. I got an outdated totally lame modem/router from Time Warner. They refused to give me the mo' better equipment they installed for my friend the prior week. So, I had to buy a modem and router (plus, Time Warner's equipment rental costs are ridiculous). I got the obligatory Arris surfboard modem. I flailed, bailed, and returned the Netgear Nighthawk (too hard to set up) and the Securify Almond (couldn't play nice with my mac mini). I gave up and bought the Apple product knowing it would handle the mac. Set up was a breeze - even when creating a guest network! The signal is decent through four walls and across a distance of 50 feet. Our Fios and Time Warner equipment problems were solved - not a single dropped or uber slow connection for two months. For ease of use and quality I would even recommend this product to my mother!

I live in a large house built from concrete block material. So, the reach of the wireless access point included with my cable modem is quite limited, located as it is on the far side of my home. I chose the Apple Airport Extreme to extend wifi coverage and to allow direct ethernet connection for streaming to my smart TV. The Airport Extreme was easy to set up and configure, in my case, to create a second wifi network without NATing (DHCP passthru). The Airport Utility app runs on my iPhone, iPad and on my MacBook Air, providing a range of configuration options and status information (connected clients, connection quality, etc.), without the info overkill of other routers and long load times. Now my whole house has strong signal for all types of devices (not just those from Apple).

I purchased this router at the suggestion of the Apple & Best Buy representatives while I was purchasing y new Macbook Pro. I was intending to buy the Netgear Nighthawk router and the Reps in the store suggested the AirPort Extreme as an alternative. They pulled on the specs and compared the 2 showing me how this router matched the Netgear and also explained how easy it was to set up using your iPhone. I am very happy with my purchase and can report that this router is a breeze to set up with your iPhone. Simply plug in the router launch the wifi settings on your iPhone which will immediately recognize the new AirPort Extreme. Within minutes you will be up an running. The performance has been great as well and far outpaces the previous Netgear I replaced. No more dropped FaceTime calls or blackout areas in my house. I highly recommend this product.

I upgraded my internet from DSL to Broadband but my modem did not support wifi. To make a long story short, i went through three wifi modems for various reasons (weak signal, wouldn't connect to my iPhone, etc). Finally I decided to try the AirPort Express and wow...its been two months and I have had no problems. Ridiculously easy setup with my iPad, connects all my wireless devices (TV, iPads, iPhones, Directv, laptops) and handles them all with ease. I live in a 2500 square foot house and i get max signal strength throughout. This is as close to set it and forget as I have seen!

Have had this router for over a month now and it has lived up to its reputation. This replaced an old belkin router with an extender. The router is located in my basement along an exterior wall and the signal reaches the third floor bed rooms with full strength.
Set up was a breeze taking less than 5 minutes using my iPhone.
Video streaming and gaming are now uninterrupted and without lag. I would certainly recommend this router to anyone looking to improve their network performance.

I owned an early generation Base Station which performed well. When it quit, I switched to other brands. It's been about 7 years since. When my Internet provider upgraded my speed, my router did not give me anywhere near the speed I was seeing at the modem. I started shopping for a new wireless router and came upon the current Base Station generation. It's not as popular as the other AC routers and a bit pricey but it's a work of art and I like how Apple products just work. So, I took the plunge and I have no regrets. It pretty much set itself up and looks great next to the wifey's figurines. Performance is excellent as is the coverage in our house. We are getting the same speed as at the modem. Although it doesn't provide as much control for all parameters as, say DD-WRT, I don't mind as it meets all our needs. Happy camper here!
