Compared to Android TV, the Apple TV has more apps, is more stable, and in my opinion, easier to use. It is however missing Amazon Prime Video, a big omission, and it does not have 4K support, nor does it include an HDMI cable in the box. If you have a Mac or other iOS device, AirPlay is great, and being able to use your phone as a remote or to type in passwords is useful as well. You can get a cheaper box like a ROKU, but this is well worth it.

No reviews needed for apple TV I guess, the only reason it's not getting a five star is because Apple removed the optical audio out. Now if you need to hookup you apple tv to your analog audio system, you must purchase an hdmi audio extractor, usually more expensive than the Apple Tv itself. Also, I did not enjoy the double thickness. Hiding your apple tv behind your wall mounted Flat tv became a challenge.

We have a older apple TV that we are updating and I really like the new features. The apple TV remote is able to control my TV and I really like the touchpad like remote. I do wish they would ship this with a HDMI cable they are pretty cheap these days. Over all its fast does whats its suppose to.

Doesn't automatically switch HDMI inputs on TV as advertised. Other than Bluetooth control I see no need to upgrade. Disappointed. I won't be replacing my other Apple TVs until more improvements are make. SIRI control in kinda weak too.

Love this device. We have had problems connecting our iPad with an HDMI cord and the special Apple adapter to stream Netflix or Hulu. With the Apple TV, it's like smooth sailing. Everything is at your finger tips and it's super fast, too. Highly recommend.

It's great for downloading apps and being able to see them on your tv. I travel so its size and weight are perfect for traveling. Not happy that you have to buy an hdmi cord with the price of the Apple TV it should have came with it since you have to have one to use the product. You also can't make any setting changes to the apps once you download them and sign in, nor can you make any iTunes account updates from it. Hopefully the next Gen they will add safari to it.

The only problem I had was that the volume changed on its own. I switched the sound setting from auto to stereo, and disabled the HDMI CEC options. I'm still able to use the apple remote to control my tv volume too. The new remote is much better! Bluetooth instead of "line of sight" and the touch navigation is great, but turn the sensitivity way down on it...Trust me.

The new Apple TV is great. The new user interface works seamlessly. The new remote design is very user friendly. I had trouble getting a video signal when I first set up the device. Problem was a bad hdmi cable. Make sure you have a good quality cable and everything should work perfect.

Very versatile 1080p streaming device lets you stream from many internet services directly to your tv through hdmi. This includes HBO, showtime, Vudu, etc., if you have a subscription, plus free services like YouTube. iPhone/iPad owners can directly connect with their devices and display photos, play music and videos, and mirror all content. The downloadable app capability allows custom configuration using apps from the iTunes App Store. A system control function turns on my Sony XBR tv and selects the correct input, making this a one-button control. The new touchpad remote with Siri works well. One drawback is lack of an optical audio output; all audio goes through the hdmi cable.

The apple TV is absolutely great for anyone invested in the apple ecosystem. If you've heard this term before, basically you use an iPhone, purchase music, TV shows, or movies on iTunes, have a Mac computer. A caveat of this, however, is apple obviously wants you to utilize what they are selling (those TV shows and movies) So you won't have the same access to everything offered by their competitors, be that Google or Amazon. Pros: very simple to use. The controller is easy and the touch panel on it is nearly as responsive on a phone or tablet. The Siri button works great and is very intuitive and quick. Streaming content loads snappy even with a lower WiFi speed. (I've streamed Netflix even in HD on 3mbps, even though the apple TV documentation seems to indicate it will downgrade HD at lower WiFi speeds.) Cons: there's no dedicated "back" button. You have to use the menu button. This is sometimes a struggle because if you wanted to select the menu to change, say, subtitles or audio tracks in a video you're watching, the Menu button will go back, not bring up a menu. The only other con is the lack of other video services like amazon or Google play. There's YouTube, I guess, but that's not what I'm looking for on a TV to begin with. Bottom line, I don't even use many apple products. I don't have an iPhone, but the apple TV is a great a great addition to my home entertainment. It's a little pricey for what you're getting, considering there are other streaming boxes that can accomplish nearly the same thing or you could always hook your computer straight to your TV. But for not having to switch hdmi cables around or move my computer, I'll take the apple TV any day for the simplicity of the product.

    Apple TV (Gen 4) - 32GB

This review is for the latest AppleTV 4th generation with Siri Remote. As has been reported by many on the web, the remote is just cool! Apart from the remote, here are things I really like on the new ATV: 1- iOS based modern Interface officially known as TVOS 2- Third party apps, though it is yet to reach the fever level of its iOS sibling 3- On-board flash based storage space (32Gb) 4- Super fast and responsive navigation thru out the entire system 5- Effective voice search, though yet to be implemented across the board. What I really hate on this ATV iteration: 1) NO Software remote and existing Apple Remote App not compatible. Are you kidding me? Apple's own TV remote App Cannot operate Apple's latest TV device? That got to be the biggest joke of the year! The remote incompatibility single handedly pulled down the Apple mantra of ...."it just works". It made the Apple TV look unfinished/beta/rushed job. 2)- Apple need to do away with the idea of forcing iTunes account authentication when setting up Home-Sharing between two devices within the same LAN. I should be able to share things within my wired or Wifi network without having to travel outside to iCloud and back to a device sitting just a few feet away. 3) No more optical audio output. Apple, you just released audio streaming service "Beat Music/Apple Radio", to encourage people to use your service means not shooting yourself on the foot by removing one of the main means of integrating it into existing AV system. Not every AV Receiver is capable of HDMI audio return. Even those that does, user may not want to be forced to use HDMI when they could have easily run an optical cable only.

    I Received a German Model

I purchased this device because my wife wanted to watch her IPad videos of our granddaughter on our 60" Plasma TV. I was able to do this with my Blackberry, but her IPad would not communicate via DLNA. So I bought this unit after the Best Buy Staff highly recommended it. As you know, most Apple Products come with very little documentation, as is the case with this device. I had to find an HDMI Cable, which is not included at $147.00! I plugged it into the power source and it took over the TV. If flashed too many screens to count and when it stopped, the screen was asking me to choose something in German! I could not read it. Since there are no instructions, I disconnected power and tried again. Same results. I called Apple Support. On hold for 45 minutes. During this time I went to the Apple Website where they had posted screenshots of the set up process. I was able to determine it wanted me to choose Manual Setup or Automatic Set Up with an IPad. I chose the IPad automatic setup which failed three times. I never got connected to Apple Support. I returned the product. I guess my wife will have to watch our Grandchildren from my Blackberry.

    Riddled With Bugs

I was excited to purchase the new Apple TV. I had 3 of the 3rd generation Apple TVs and was looking forward to the App Store. In general, the new features are cool, but there are a number of bugs that impact the basic functioning of the device. Apple is becoming more like Microsoft everyday. For example, streaming from iTunes from my computer, there is a lot of buffering, the screen goes blank and sometimes the screen freezes and only the soundtrack moves forward. My old Apple TVs never exhibited this behaviour. This is a known issue - several people complaining about it on Apple support. I have 300MBPs internet service and I typically get 60 to 70 MBPs where the Apple TV is positioned. Given, that there were no problems with prior Apple TVs, I don't believe it is a network problem. For some reason, when using Airplay from an iPhone, if the screen locks, the airplay will discontinue. This was not exhibited in my prior Apple TVs. Other people are noting similar issues on Apple Support forums. Netflix, Vevo, You Tube all work fine. The Apple TV 4 is much snappier than prior Apple TVs. The App store is pretty cool, but limited at this time. The HDMI sometimes loses connection with my TV. Not sure if this is device specific or across the Apple TV 4 range. In general - the device has a lot of potential - but it does not have Apple's usual "It Just Works" approach to functionality. I will likely return it and repurchase when the next iteration of the Operating System is released.

Our First Impressions of the NEW Apple TV

Today, we received our Apple TV well one of two that we are getting and we wanted to share our initial thoughts - from box to set-up. First thing is first, the box is bigger than the last Apple TV that came out three years ago, also Apple went back to a fully black box like they had for the second gen Apple TV. It has a nice matte black finish and once you open the box you're presented with the Apple TV and remote at the top of the box. After pulling both of them out, directly under where the remote was you will find the power cable and under where the Apple TV resided you will find the Lightning cable for charging your remote, plus the "Let's Get Started Guide." One thing the new Apple TV does not come with is an HDMI cable. So, make sure you have one available or the set-up process is going to stop pretty quickly. The set-up process is is very simple. The only step that slows you down is having to enter your account information for every subscription service you have. You will need the aide of your computer because in order to set-up live streaming for television networks like HBO, NBC, ABC, and USA require you to enter a validation code on that companies website. We did discover pretty early on that some live streaming networks are not available in all areas. For example, when we tried to set-up the ABC app live streaming, we were met with an error message that said the service wasn't available in our area. The help section on the Apple TV indicates that more service will be added soon. As I was setting it up, I discovered just how responsive and quick the new Apple TV is. Everything - even the App Store is incredibly fast. I downloaded YouTube, Netflix, HBOGO and several other apps to get the Apple TV set-up the way I wanted and the download for those apps took no time at all. While everyone is pretty familiar with how the streaming video apps work, I want to bring up a new type of app for the Apple TV - the game. I did test out Crossy Road while I was setting it up and actually found it to be more enjoyable than on the iPhone. Again, it is very responsive and there was no perceptible lag that I could see. Now, onto the Siri Remote. I've got a fair amount of experience with the Amazon TV remote that has a voice assistant built-in, so I was excited to have that function come to the Apple TV. This remote is really much more advanced that I expected it to be. First of all, Siri commands are handled with ease and even though there is a little learning curve you have to get over for really fluid control - tap the button once and then hold it in to speak - it appears that Siri works really well with the new Apple TV. The second really cool feature of the Siri Remote is the Touch Surface. Apple pulled the popular navigation method in from the iPhone and iPad into the Siri Remote. I'll be honest, until I used it, I really wasn't sure how I would enjoy it. Now that I've used it, I can say that I'm a fan. It's just as responsive to the touch and gestures as the surface of my iPhone and it really makes it interesting to interact with the Apple TV. In my opinion, the Siri Remote really makes the Apple TV feel like an Apple product. You experience using it rather than just changing channels like you do with a regular television. Also, the Siri Remote comes with some added functionality over the old Apple remote like volume control. It's meant to be a universal remote and can be programmed to power your tv on and off and control its volume. Unfortunately for us, the TV we are using the Apple TV with is not entirely compatible with the universal nature of the Siri Remote. We were able to program the volume - which was incredibly easy - but were not able to program any other functions. Really the only 'complaint' I would have about this initial set-up review is that I can tell that the App Store is blissfully light on apps. I mean, there are some very cool apps ready for launch, but not as many as I thought there would be. I know that they will come soon as developers start using this remarkable device more and more. I've really been looking forward to this new Apple TV launch. Like so many other Apple fans, I felt as though the Apple TV was one of the devices that seriously needed a redesign. On my old Apple TV's loading video in Netflix was painfully slow. So much that I started to shy away from using it. Everything I've tried to load on the new Apple TV is so incredibly fast and I'm really looking forward to making it a part of my home entertainment system.
