I thought I would share my experience and maybe it would help someone else. I am 78 and have no family around. I fell recently in my garage trying to get my snowblower out for the snowstorm we had that day.......I fell over my lawnmower trying to move things around. Luckily I didn't break anything but badly damaged my leg just below my hip.....very bruised and cut......anyway I was able to get up and clear my sidewalks of the snow.....by then my leg was really hurting. I hurt all over. I ended up in bed for a week as it was hard to walk. I am fine now.....but it really made me think .......the garage door was closed......if I had blacked out as I did hit my head on the car setting there....I could have laid there for a long time in the middle of winter. I looked into all those different life systems you wear around your neck etc....read all the reviews etc and what really bothered me about them was the cost plus one of my neighbors was wearing one and it did not pick up on her fall.........a neighbor happened to see her to get her to a hospital. Then I came across the Apple Watch Series 4, the newest one. I read interviews galore about it and decided it sounded the best way for me to go. Verizon said it would cost me 10$ more on my bill. That sounded better than those other life alert systems some as high as 40$ a month. Its an expensive option to begin with but I bought it outright...though you can buy it and pay monthly. You have to have a Iphone 6 or newer also. I got it last week and I love it......the built in telephone works great....everyone I have called said it sounds great. It has about everything on it that my iphone has and they synch together.....plus the watch has fantastic health apps........it does an ECG anytime you want....it will alert you if any problem with arterial fib immediately.......I have all my medical information on it now in one place. The fall detection seems to work though I have not fallen....but the other day I went to let my dog in and kind of slammed the door....it came on and wanted to know if I had fallen and was I OK.....so I had to respond fast that I was o.k......if I had not responded it would have called emergency services and email my daughter in another state. I cant tell you how much safer I feel now and not so alone. One of the best things I like I don't have to carry my big Iphone 6plus around if I go outside or downstairs. It has all my iphone apps, mail, notes etc, messenger. I bought it at BestBuy and they used price matched with Sam's Club plus I had some rewards built up so I saved so much that I ended up adding Apple Support 2 years with the amount I saved. It seems the battery lasts plenty long for me for the day also. I am still learning all about it........just wished I had not waited so long to buy it.........I love it and feel so much safer. It will be so nice once spring gets here and I am doing so much yard work and mowing etc...plus I walk my golden retriever every day in good weather. I have had to carry my iphone in my backpack which was hard to get too.........many times I had to call Animal Control as loose dogs came at me.......I had to wait till I got home to call them..........now I can call immediately as my telephone is on my wrist in the watch.....can leave my iphone at home. I just love this watch........the technology in it is amazing.....all the things it does plus the ECG, heart monitor gives me a peace of mind.

    What a difference!

Upgraded from a Series 3 LTE model, so I already knew LTE was the way to go again. The display—oh my goodness, the display! It’s hard to put into words the difference the display makes to the overall usability and aesthetics of the watch. Colors are richer than all prior series and the increased pixel density makes graphics sharper and text more readable at any distance. The Taptic feedback is improved overall and the addition of Taptic feedback to the crown is nice. Really seems like it should have been there from the start of Apple Watch. The speaker is MUCH louder, so I can see myself actually using it for phone calls, Walkie-Talkie and such (unlike the Series 3–it was hard to hear). Overall, the 44mm size compared to the 42mm I had before is only subtly apparent. But honestly it feels the same on the wrist. I would go so far as to say maybe even better due to how the slightly increased height of the watch allows the band (Sport Loop) to not be pulled across so much of the top of my wrist. Obviously that’s subjective based on wrist size/band style, but an observation nonetheless. The watch body is visibly thinner from the sides than previous series and really lends itself to a more sleek appearance. Oh, and for those who hated the Series 3 LTE crown with the hideous big red dot... it’s no more! At least on the Space Grey model, the red ring is there, but it’s subtle. Just enough of an accent to indicate the LTE presence without being gaudy about it. Thank you, Apple! I cannot speak to the ECG/EKG feature as it is not available yet. I also have not yet tested fall detection (not actively trying either, haha), though I do have it enabled. Like insurance, hope you never have to use it but when you need it, it’s invaluable. I could go on, but you really need to see it to get a full appreciation of the updates. Thanks for reading!

    The best smart watch

I wanted to wait until the EKG feature was released for the Series 4 Apple Watch before fully reviewing it. I purchased the cellular model and it's connected to my Verizon account. First and foremost, I have to say that this is easily the best smart watch on the market. It beats out Android Wear and Samsung's Gear watches with features, integration with the source phone, full cellular capabilities, app selection, and available accessories. The design has remained relatively unchanged since the first Apple Watch. It's a rectangle with bands that slide out for easy changing. The heart-rate monitor and charging are under the watch just like every other smart watch. Apple added one of the EKG contacts under the watch, has improved the heart-rate monitor, and increased the screen size by reducing the bezels around the display. This is a really good looking display, it puts others to shame. The square shape does turn some people away but the display, an OLED panel, is bright, vibrant, and photos look great on it. GIFs in texts are display smoothly and, of course, there are true blacks. The Apple Watch is tied exclusively to iPhones but it integrates well with them. Test messages, phone calls, apps, photos, and media all automatically transfer between device. The integration is deeper than Android Wear with Android smartphones and Samsung Gear watches with Galaxy phones. Apple always does a good job of integrating their products together and the Apple Watch makes the perfect companion for the iPhone. The exercise tracking has improved over my Series 2 watch. Automatic detection actually works and there are a couple new exercises that it can track. I don't have any issues with the Series 4 automatically tracking my walking on a treadmill, outdoor walking, and various other exercises. I have to manually start tracking for row machines but that's pretty normal. I like that my heart-rate is constantly, and accurately, tracked while exercising and everything gets put into the Activity and Health apps. I also get credit in Pokemon Go now that it can read Apple Health and Activity data. Siri doesn't require a the "Hey, Siri!" wake command anymore, all you have to do is raise your wrist and speak a command. Siri is much faster than before whether the Series 4 is directly connected to an iPhone via Bluetooth, over wi-fi, or on a cellular network. The built-in microphones accurately hear every command and allow for easy text dictation. Phone calls are also fine to take with the Apple Watch. I hated it before but don't mind them now. The watch is well-built and can withstand exercising and swimming without issues. I've bumped my screen on walls and desk edges here and there and it hasn't scratched or cracked. Your old bands can fit the new watch so long as you stay within the same size (38mm bands fit the 40mm watch and 42mm bands fit the 44mm watch). The EKG feature isn't something that you will use everyday but it is interesting and has actually helped people. I have used it 8 times now just to get an idea of how my heart performs under different conditions (relaxing, exercising, while stressed, etc.). Luckily, I don't have any heart conditions but the EKG was accurate when compared to one (using 4 points) taken by my physician during a job entry examination. It's accurate enough to identify problems but not zero in on their locations within your heart. Lastly, battery life has been improved. I can easily get through a day and still have 50% of my Watch's battery life. This included monitoring 30-90 minutes of exercising daily, using the Breath app 4 times a day, monitoring my daily movement, responding to texts, and controlling music playback on my iPhone. I have even begun just taking my Apple Watch and wireless earbuds into the gym with me and leaving my iPhone at home. Streaming music through Apple Music to Bluetooth headphones while tracking exercises does take a toll on the battery but it will get you through a 5 hour session (which is more than enough for me). I just wish Planet Fitness would update their app so I could show them my membership card on my watch instead of having them look it up with my phone number. Apple has made the best smart watch on the market. It is expensive and only works with iPhones but, if you have an iPhone, this is easy to recommend. Exercise tracking is spot on, the additional health aspects are nice to know, there are more apps available for the Apple Watch than any other smart watch, it's surprisingly rugged, the battery life is great, and the screen is the best on the market. You can finance the cellular model over a 24-month period, I recommend taking that route if you (understandably) don't want to (or can't) pay for it upfront. That's what I did and the overall cost added to my bill, including service for the Watch, was only $17 a month.

    A Nice Luxury

I got my Apple Watch back in October and have used it every day since the purchase. As a big Apple fanboy, I have to say, while I love this product, I'm not totally blown away. I purchased the cellular version in hopes that it would allow me to use my phone less. However, I don't seem to be using my phone any less than I normally would without the watch. Texting isn't entirely fluid with having to write out letters or using speech-to-text (which although is mostly accurate, is not too practical for me). I have a mount on my dashboard for my phone, so using Maps on my watch while driving doesn't change anything for me when I can just view Maps on my phone right in front of me. Another big issue that I have, although it isn't the watch's fault, is the lacking Spotify app which finally released after years of not having one. The Spotify app works only as a remote, rather than a stand-alone app like Apple Music; you have to be in range of your phone for Spotify to work on the watch. I hope this improves with time. If you're an Apple Music user, this won't apply to you. However, with Apple Music, your music isn't listed in chronological order (recently added being on top), which I find sucks. Now that I've gotten the things I don't like about the watch out of the way, here are some things I love... I find the Activity app to be the most useful for me to keep track of my exercises, especially with expanded information that is automatically synced with your iPhone's health app. A 3rd-party sleep app called Sleepwatch is also great to get an overview of your quality of sleep, showing a graph of your heart rate, sleep time, heart rate dip, sleep rhythm, and restful sleep. The Wallet app makes paying for things a lot easier with contactless readers -- with a push of a button, I can buy a coffee without having to pull out my physical wallet and card. Phone calls are loud and clear. Siri works great (most of the time), and will only get better with future software updates. The design of the watch is very clean and elegant, and matched with the right band, can make for a classy aesthetic. If you're a user, like myself, who has never used an Apple Watch before, I would recommend this product if you have the money to spend. If you're skeptical, get yourself a Series 3 for half the cost. I wouldn't blow your money on the stainless steel version, because it's only for aesthetic purposes and provides no difference in performance.

This is my first Apple Watch purchase. Thought with the series 4 capabilities it was the best time to purchase one. Have owned it for about a month now. I was little skeptical I needed one, but glad I purchased. Love the independence! It is very light weight and the basic black band that comes with it feels very comfortable. Wear it always and forget it's on my wrist till I get a gentle vibrating kick with incoming messages or encouraging health reminders/goal achievements. I keep mine on mute. I especially like not being required to take your phone on long walks and jogs. It's also water proof, so no more covering my phone with a sandwich bag in anticipation of a rain shower during a long jog. Yeah! I have ATT Cellular service and it appears to be OK with my watch use, not extremely strong in my hilly neighborhood though. Battery life for the series 4 watch is exactly what Apple has documented. I get about 3 hours when cellular is on with heavy app use during workouts, listening to music, etc. When cellular is off, watch can go all day with more that half the battery or so remaining before I charge for the night. I really like the nightstand feature when charging as well. Speaker clarity and volume is really exceptional. I take calls while I'm busy doing things around house, etc., hands-free and the callers have told me it sounded very clear like I was using a landline phone. The Apple Watch app is very easy to use with lot's of different watch faces and complications to chose from to meet your personal preference. The only disappointment I had was that the watch cannot pair with your car's bluetooth. You'll need to have your iphone with you in order to listen to music in your car without headphones.

Great upgrade from a Series 2 Apple Watch!

I had a Series 2 Apple Watch and upgraded to the Series 4... I love it! The larger screen size is very noticeable in comparison to what I had previously. While the dimensions of the watch are just a little bit larger, it still seems to be about the same size on my wrist. The haptic feedback on the digital crown is a nice feature. I am also seeing better battery life than I had with my Series 2. I have always loved the activity tracking features of the Apple watches and being able to store songs on the watch to listen to while exercising is a killer feature for me. Add a pair of wireless Beats or AirPods and no more headphone wires to get tangled up! I purchased the cellular version, but have not activated the cellular functions yet... Not sure if I see a great benefit in paying $10 a month addition on my cellular bill to take a call or stream music. (I heard the Series 4 is supposed to be better than previous iterations at phone calls... I have not had a chance to try that out yet.) Ultimately, there are less expensive smart watches out there, but they lack the integration with other Apple devices and accounts. They are also not as accurate for activity tracking and the waterproofing and features of the Apple Watch are second to none. Glad I picked this up as a pre-order on release day because I would be going crazy if I had to continue to wait for them to be back in stock (like some of my friends). The downside is that the watch cannot go multiple days on a single charge, meaning it cannot really be worn at night as a sleep tracker. Given that, I never understood the value of tracking sleep anyway because what can I do about it if I didn't sleep well? Seems overrated to me. Ultimately, I love my Apple Watch and am very happy with the purchase.

APPLE WATCH 44mm with GPS and CELLULAR. Didn't know if i really needed another electronic gadget as i have 2 Macbkook Pros, 2 mini pads, and an iphone 7+. Since I'm retired, I have more time to enjoy life with art classes, movies, many unread books, did i really need an Apple Watch? Well, the resounding answer is YES! Reasons: Being able to make and receive phone calls, send email and texts without digging through my purse to locate my iphone and doing this almost hands-free while driving, setting up the many health apps, to improve my health, the many interesting watch faces including favorite photos that can be shuffled, the falling feature if i were to stumble and need medical assistance, the feature that reminds me to do the breathing exercises, and i could go on and on. I'm still learning how to use this watch. Almost forgot, the long battery life, up to 3 days (usually 18 hrs. listed in manual) is very convenient. A full charge usually takes no more than 1/2 hr. Amazing! I did replace the watchband with a leather band as i didnt trust the band that came with the Apple Watch. (It slipped off twice). So far I'm very pleased. Will update later.

I can't deny that I love Apple products. The Apple Watch is no different. There's quite a lot that can be done with this little wonder, but there is a bit of a learning curve--its not as simply intuitive as the phone. The crown functionally take some getting used to. I did purchase the watch with cellular, but my current carrier doesn't support this (I made the purchase with the intention of changing carriers), so I cannot yet comment on cellular capability. The activity rings seem to be off a little bit, but they still give you at least some idea where you are in relation to other days. It's really nice to know how many calories you've burned for the day. And the reminders to stand and breathe and move are handy. If nothing else, it might guilt you into getting off your rump for a bit. There are some neat little features for navigation, and you can control your iPhone's playlist, as well as your Apple TV with the watch as well. Weather apps are terrific. Still could use some more apps, but those will come with time and updates. And battery life (typically about two days for me) could be better, but that's true of all Apple products at this time. Even with the learning curve and it's minor downsides, it's a great purchase. You won't be disappointed. (At least until Siri has a stroke and navigates you to an airport instead of your favorite Best Buy!)

To begin, I have owned the Apple watches 2, 3 (with cellular) and now the 4 LTE + Cellular. (I’ve had an iPhone for 10 years). Compared to the 3 series, the 4 is significantly faster (processor speed) and the Cellular function is much improved in reference to obtaining a signal and voice quality. The internal speaker is louder. The larger display/screen is a significant upgrade. So much easier to read - especially for us older folks! I use the watch daily for exercise tracking with the Pedometer ++ app - I no longer use my Fitbit as the watch is now superior and more accurate. The new watch faces with up to eight complications keeps my iPhone in my pocket much more of the time. The heart rate function is outstanding - very responsive and accurate. The display can easily be read outside on sunny days. The ECG function works seemingly well (I will show the results to my MD on my next physical to verify). I easily get a full day of battery usage. I could probably get two full days. I use Apple AirPods and when I do my exercise regiments (I don’t take my iPhone with me) no one knows I’m talking on my watch! I like the fact that I have 911 capability (LTE version) when I don’t have my iPhone with me - on a few occasions, I have left my phone at home - NO PROBLEM! The Apple Watch 4 is quite simply a wonderful asset and performs wonderfully, in my opinion.

I received this as an early Christmas present from my husband. He was sick of not hearing from me for 10 hours a day while I was working in my clinic. This watch goes above and beyond expectations on terms of features and functionality. Not only can I dictate a quick text while seeing patients in clinic and also during procedures (the touch screen still works when I have sterile gloves on), but it also has the two factor security on it so I can send controlled medication prescriptions without using my phone. I lose my phone about 100 times during clinic. With the find my phone feature on my watch, I always know where my phone is. I cannot believe how accurate the dictation is for talk to text either. Much better than my iPhone!! Non work related uses are- Siri wakes when the watch is held to my mouth so I can: Set a timer while cooking Add something to the family list for shopping whenever it pops into me head Following my workouts Controlling the music while I workout Taking pictures remotely Call or text someone handsfree Distract my niece and nephew with the toy story watch face Love it so much, that I returned my husband's Movado smart watch and bought him an Apple watch. He loves his too!

I debated whether or not to get an Apple Watch. I like technology and I also like fine watches. I initially decided not to buy the watch due to duplication with the phone. On my last visit to my doctor, he told me to invest in an Apple Watch. He said the ECG along with the emergency fall notification were well worth the money. I went out and bought the 44mm. The watch works great. My hesitance comes with how much information we need on a minute by minute basis. For example, if I am walking briskly, it asks me if I am working out and it will record everything. My arm buzzes throughout the day with calls, texts, reminders to breath, standup and so on. In addition, I have my daily goals and it is buzzing me about my progress all day. I find that I very much like the watch when I am working out. If I take it off to wear one of my other watches I feel guilty that it is not recording my steps, my heart rate, and who knows what else. I always wear the watch when I am working out but am weaning myself from dependency on it the rest of the day. It is a great device, the question is how much intrusion do you want from the watch. I guess it goes to how you manage it, and how many other watches you own.

I have had the Gen 0, Gen 2, and now I have the Gen 4 Apple Watch. I’ve been wearing it daily for about three weeks as of this review, and I could not happier with the purchase. The fit and finish of the watch is beautiful, and continues the quality I expect from all Apple products. Initially there is an adjustment period to the new, slightly, larger design and the face layout. This only lasted a day or two, and this quickly the watch i instinctively reach for in the morning. All of my old bands fit perfectly, and any new bands that I purchase should be interchangeable with my Gen 2. I’m wildly impressed by the new larger screen and love the capabilities of the GPS. Short story is I love the new watch, even bought one for my father, as it has additional health monitoring features, and the fall detection (plus he whole be able to see it better!).

I've upgraded from the Apple Watch series 0, which is the very first model of Apple watch they made. The device was great. This one is even better. I purchased the model with cellular, and it's fantastic. Admittedly, there aren't very many instances where I'll have my watch and not my phone, but the main times I may use the watch without the phone is pretty much when I'm working out. I've used this watch in the gym, running, biking, and hiking. With blue tooth headphones, you can pretty much replace using your cell phone. Of course you can't really consume media media on it, so it's only good for times you know you won't need the big screen of a phone. The Apple Watch 4 is much faster then previous models. It rarely hangs or stalls, and applications load quickly and they just work. I'm using this paired to an iPhone 7 Plus on the Verizon network, and it works very well. This model has a slightly bigger screen (33 percent) and it is noticeably easier to read. Although the phone was expensive, I have no regrets. I really like this phone, I believe it'll last me many years.

I was gifted a series 3 for Christmas. I had been debating for quite awhile on buying an Apple Watch. I was partial to the larger screen and 4 series. I upgraded the 3 to the 4. I am glad I went for the larger screen, it is so much easier to navigate and see the second hand. I hated spending so much on just a watch. Now I’m glad I did. I use it quite a bit. I am a nurse, I have multiple alarms set for my patients treatments. I use the calendar and texting quite a bit. Keeps myself and coworkers connected. Easy to say I’m in room xyz, meet you in xyz2, in 15 min. Overall it’s been great and durable. The only downside is using the second hand required a bit of looking to find a watch face with it, and it sleeps often so you have to tap it awake. I use the stop watch feature often instead. One more downfall is a lack of bands. I prefer the old lady stretchy band, when I’m getting dirty or washing my hands I prefer to move it higher up my wrist/arm. It’s been ok and withstands my hand washing.

I bought this watch to replace my series 3 Apple Watch with cellular and GPS. The last model (Series 3) was meh at best. Was always glitchy and had connection issues when it came to cellular and not being tethered to my phone. Send my old watch to one of Apple‘s depots only to have it returned saying they found nothing wrong with it but I’m telling you, it under performed still. Not to mention the prior screen was not Oled and big enough. This watch is substantially thinner and sits better on my wrist as well. I love that I can use the bands still from my 42 mm old watch with this new 44 mm Apple Watch. The dial works smoother and overall navigation is much smoother.

I really, really love the Apple Watch Series 4! This is my first Apple Watch and the convenience of having the accessibility and features from my phone on my wrist is something that I absolutely love. I included the data plan on my watch and the clarity of sound during phone calls is remarkable. Pair your Apply Watch with the Airpods and you're on another level! It sounds lazy, but not having to cary my phone with me 24/7 (especially when I'm active) is so nice. The one feature that I'm already obsessed with is the ability to accurately track my activity on a daily basis. Apple's "Activity" app is totally fun and creative. I use my watch every day to keep track of my progress and what's even more, I compete with my co-workers which is a unique and effective motivation that keeps me focused on my personal goals. The Apple Watch has certainly been a product I've thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm all-in on Apple products and have been since the first iPod. I've held off on getting a watch as I never thought I needed it. Now that the Series 4 is out, my main reason for taking the plunge is my health. I'm getting older and finding it harder to lose weight and exercise regularly. My main goal every day is to "close my rings." If you don't have an Apple watch, the rings signify how much activity you've done for the day. Standing, exercising and moving (burning calories). I've only had it a few weeks and I've already dropped 12 Lbs. The watch reminds you and it motivates you to stay active. The ECG app just came out and I now understand the vision Apple has behind the Apple watch. The health benefits now and into the future will be significant by way of connecting with your doctor on your vitals and more. This is a lot of money to pay for a watch, but my continued health is well-worth the price. I love this watch and highly-recommend it to anyone who is serious about their health.

The last Apple Watch I had was series 1, and it was great and it was a technological breakthrough. I loved it, but from day 1 it never had enough battery power to last a full day so by the end of the day, it was always disappointing. I loved the activity features and had enjoyed upgrades as they came. It was disappointing to find that Apple Watch 1 would not support Watch OS 5. Nevertheless, it was time to get the new one, and I have to say... what a difference. The size difference though nominal is impactful. Although the performance is fantastic and the features it has such as guessing the activity I am starting and when I have ended that activity is remarkable. The constant heart monitoring feature has enabled me to learn so much about my heart range, and that is priceless. I did get the one with Cellular although I have not yet setup separate cellular connectivity with my carrier. I highly recommend this watch. I can:t imagine upgrading to the next one unless it is remarkably different. Buy this watch! you wont regret it.

I have held back from buying one of these for years. They were too hokey but it seems apple has finally fully realized the potential of this watch. The newest version is larger and the screen quality is amazing. Touch is highly accurate (no misplaced touches). Dictation works great. Wallow talkie is excellent. Only warning is if you have company locked down cell phone don’t bother buying the LTE version as you will not be able to link it. I have Verizon and we were able to get them to drop the $30 activation fee... you get what you negotiate... and I did not buy it from Verizon. You do not need a Verizon version to use with Verizon unless you want a new number... if you are just ordering to pair with your existing phone, even if you want LTE, just order the non carrier specific version. SO SOMPLE TO SET UP... AMAZINGLY APPLE.

Transitioned back to apple after leaning on google products for quite some time, and I was never really considering getting an Apple Watch, but I’m glad I did. The series 4 with LTE has been a game changer. If you like being able to leave your phone at home and travel light, this is the watch for you. The screen, functionality, and connectivity you get without carrying your phone around is unreal. The only downside is that if you’re outside on a windy day or in a crowded place, the speaker phone on the watch really won’t cut it. But in the car or in a moderately quiet environment, this is perfect and you can control the volume so it’s not annoying others around you. The best function is the walkie talkie, I end up using that many times a day with my wife and friends, especially while we’re around the house. Better than having to yell downstairs.
