Certified Refurbished Isn't Always What It Seems

I have bought refurbished items from Best Buy in the past with very good results. Even though this iPad was sold as "certified refurbished" the battery was completely shot and had not been replaced. Apple remote diagnostic support confirmed to me that the battery was past its use life and would need to be replaced. When I contacted Best Buy customer service about this, they directed me to go into the store and meet with a Geek Squad technician. When I did that, the Geek Squad tech (who was very nice) said unfortunately they would have to return to Apple for a replacement which I would have to pay the difference. Apple doesn't replace batteries. Basically like getting a new iPad. Or I could take to a third party repair shop. So, it had not been fully refurbished and should not have been "certified" as such. Seems like this is par for the course on these types of items at least. I love Best Buy, but this one failed me.
