I upgraded to the iPad Air 2 from an iPad retina, and I'm so glad that I did. The Air 2 is significantly lighter, which is the main thing I wanted. It's really portable and convenient to keep on hand for work stuff, as well as leisure. I also really appreciate the boost in storage capacity - 128GB on this tiny little thing is great.
Only thing I'm still not entirely happy about is the SIM card situation. I think the Apple SIM is a great addition, but:
(1) It doesn't work with Verizon, so if you purchase the Air 2 through anyone other than a Verizon store or an Apple store (where you can request that they swap out the Apple SIM for a Verizon one as you're making your purchase), you end up having go to the Verizon store to get a compatible SIM. I'll note that it's free, so long as you've got the receipt for your Air 2, but it's rather inconvenient.
(2) If you choose a data plan through AT&T, the Apple SIM "locks" on AT&T, and won't let you switch to a data plan on any other carrier.
Functionally, it doesn't do much in the way of increasing flexibility in choice of data carrier. That's not Apple's fault, though - blame the carriers. Just know that the Apple SIM isn't quite as universal as we might have hoped for the time being. That aside, I'm very happy with the Air 2 and would recommend it to anyone.

The iPad Air was great, but the iPad Air 2 is even better--faster, better display, thinner, and slightly lighter. The addition of the fingerprint scanner makes it a lot more convenient to unlock, and the gold color looks great. I didn't have an iPhone at the time I had the iPad Air, so I don't know if it would have also done this, but the iPad communicates with the iPhone so that it basically becomes a huge iPhone. Text messages and phone calls both go to both the iPhone and the iPad. It blew my mind the first time I got a call on the iPad, because I hadn't realized it would do that. It was awesome, though--had left the iPhone in another room, and just had the iPad with me. Since it also gets calls I didn't miss the call. I LOVE the iPad Air 2.

Original Air owner, the Air 2 is very good

If you don't own an iPad or own any version other than the first Air, then this is a good choice. If you do own the first Air, then probably not worth the upgrade. The Air 2 is fast, great battery life, outstanding app support, very thin & light.

My first tablet!

I have 2 Macs - a laptop & a mini.
I decided that I wanted a tablet. First I had to decide on a Windows-based or an Android or an iPad. I spent hours on the internet researching the different types of tablets. I ruled out the Windows-based tablets because I don't like the Windows 8 user interface & very few apps are available for the Windows-based tablets. So, then I had to decide between an Android or an Apple. I have an Android smartphone so an Android-based tablet would be familiar to me. I wavered back & forth between an Android tablet or an Apple tablet. Each time I thought that I had made up my mind only to change it again!
Finally, I made up my mind! I decided on an iPad. But then I had to decide between a mini 3 & an Air 2. I preferred the Air 2 because one of the things I want to do with it is use it as a GPS in my car. The bigger screen of the Air 2 would show more with less scrolling up & down & in & out. There were a couple of factors that made my final decision. (1) I already have 2 Macs so it would be easy to synchronize stuff between the devices. (2) When Android comes out with an update, it takes forever to receive it. Some phones & tablets get the update before others! The "current" update on my phone came out in December 2014. The ACTUAL current version came out in April 2015. So, my phone is almost a year out of date! I don't like that. When a new version of iOS comes out, it's available to all immediately!

Previously owned an iPad 2 WiFi 64GB and found that it was simply too slow and no longer reliable. Tried multiple Android options but they simply could not match the performance and reliability of the iPad. Was disappointed that I could not use any of the accessories I purchased for my iPad 2 but overall very satisfied with my purchase.

This iPad rocks as it should.I have had a few other models and a few android tablet.Ipads seem to run much smoother. The App Store is much more organized with iOS than android. This iPad is of good size.Easy to read on and not to heavy to carry around. Most work that can be done a computer can be done on the iPad without carrying the bulk and heaviness. This will not be for everyone.Eveyones needs will differ.
