Customers highly value the iPad mini 2's compact size and ease of use, frequently praising its screen quality and performance. Positive feedback also highlights its lightweight design and good battery life, with many considering it a worthwhile purchase for the price. Had the iPad2 before I got the mini. Things I love include how easy it is to hold in two hands to type when holding portrait style, speed, size obviously and I got a hella great price. If you are thinking Kindle or Nook, I used to be on board until I purchased this. Really like my iPad2.

I wanted an apple tablet for a very long time, but the models that came out in the past were either too big and bulky or too small and expensive. Finally they came out with slimmer models. This iPad mini 2 has a sleek, slim design and is the perfect size! It's a little bit bigger than a large book. I can slip it into my purse for entertainment on the go, but don't let the size fool you. Its not so small that you can't enjoy your apps, Internet browsing or reading. It has a beautiful bright colorful display! All this for a nice affordable price. If you're like me, and want an apple tablet that is a practical size for a reasonable price, the iPad mini 2 is for you!

Bought it as a Christmas gift for family and they loved it. Beautiful display, running apps smoothly with latest iOS, perfect size for one hand operation. It's a terrific deal compared to the latest iPad mini 3 which only adds finger scanner.

Retina display is second to none. Ease of use and integration with other apple products is dreamy. Light-weight mini is perfect, especially for kids under 10. icloud family functionality is slick.
Well done, applemeisters.

The Mini 2 had gone briefly on sale and I am extremely glad that I pulled the trigger. Infinitely better performance over my previous Samsung tablet and with the ability to cast things to my television it has become an integral part of my entertainment center. Additionally, using it as a communication device, a sketchpad, recipe book, note-taking device and worlds more is truly invaluable. The form-factor of the mini is also, in my opinion, perfect. Great screen size, portability, and terrific resolution round out the package. I feel strongly that if you want to invest in a tablet, this is the way to go ... everyone may have their preference of phone, which is understandable, but in the tablet world, the iPad really is the best.

I received the iPad mini 2 for Christmas last year. I have always been an Android fan but my wife and kids have had iPads for school. They said that I had to have one. When I fired it up I noticed the screen was incredible and the speed of the device was great. I like the mini version as it is a great size for reading books. It can be a bit small for some websites if they are not configured for mobile.
After having this device for 9 months it still works as well as it did the day I opened it. I am happy that I have this device.

Coming from the Android world - my wife kept suggesting that I get an iPad as she loves her iPad Air. I don't like the size of the Air, but the iPad Mini is just the ticket. I was an iPhone 4 user when it came out, and I finally left the Apple ecosystem after becoming disillusioned with features and progress. I went Google Nexus for my phones and haven't looked back (it's been a rocky road for sure, but Apple was at times too). I've owned a Samsung tablet, and Nexus 7 before, but always found I never really used them for much.
Anyways, now that you have my background, let's talk iPad Mini Retina! First of all physical size - this is perfect, like a small book. 4:3 aspect ratio is just perfect for a small tablet, as it leaves it feeling like a book. The screen is a wonderful pixel density, and the default DPI settings of the OS never leave controls feeling too big or small. You can adjust text size and quite a bit more in the accessibility menus than you could back in the iOS 4/5 days. The cameras are more than adequate for a tablet, and I find myself occasionally snapping shots of the pets when they're being cute. The physical home button is a bit of a throwback for me (have used software buttons since 2011), but it's tactile and feels nice (while increasing the bezel size unnecessarily). Battery life amazes me. I thought my Android tablets did well - the iPad appears to decimate them when it comes to standby - which is perfect since I use the tablet in spurts.
iOS 7.1.2 was pretty stable - and I jailbroke it. Once jailbroken, I realized that on a tablet, there were just a few tweaks that were worth it, but software piracy was the main scene. So when iOS 8 came out, I simple backed up and did a full restore - which turned out pretty good. I've found that WiFi appears to be not nearly as solid as it should be. At home, I run OpenWRT on WNDR3700's and it works much better than when I'm at random locations out and about. iOS 7 seemed to do a better job with random wifi, so a bit of a ding there (although I'm certain it will be addressed by Apple).
App selection is of course excellent, and a majority of the titles I desired were available. The whole iPhone/iPad native apps bugs me as an Android user. Frankly on Android it's much simpler, as all UI's are made to scale out. Some do it better than others, but on an iPad, the iPhone app scaling is just horrid. Really - this is the solution? To use 75% or 25% of the screen real estate and make it look like really sucky? Sorry, but that's just not being forward thinking in your OS design. Even the jailbroken community had better scaling solutions available.
The 16GB size, now that we're firmly planted in the middle of the teens years of the 21st century, feels quite tight. I immediately downloaded and installed the 'recommended apple apps', then I downloaded the few meager purchases I had made during my iPhone 4 stent. I proceeded to see the graphics prowess by downloading Asphault 8, and then all of a sudden, I had 200MB free, no photos, no videos, no music - just apps. 16GB was plenty back in 2009 (iPhone 4), but 5 years later, with larger textures, multiple formats, etc, apps have grown. It's time to just add that 1 or 2 dollars in parts and push the iPad up to 32GB minimum. Here that industry? We know flash is cheap!! We buy 32GB flash drives at best buy for $15 retail prices - give me a break!
The same goes for radios. Really - does cell hardware have to be so 'optional' and expensive? I went with the base model (probably like many people) because it's priced appropriately. You can do a lot with an iPad, and people might even do more if they could say add a SIM to it without a 2 year contract to make it affordable.
The CPU - which I was salivating to try - the A7! It's pretty good. At first glance, everything appears snappy. There's a lot to like about the CPU's speed. However I've become disappointed with the performance of certain activities, and I'm not sure if it's CPU, GPU, or RAM related. Apps like Chrome (I know - I should use Safari) shudder and lag horribly on large pages. Almost any modern ARM A8 or A15 based 32-bit CPU can easily smooth out Chrome on Android (even at high resolutions). First party apps fly with the best of them though - with Safari being very smooth. My biggest complaint is with the 1GB of RAM. I swear Apple knows that RAM is always the limiting factor when it comes to longevity of a device. My Nexus 4 had 2GB of RAM - 2 years after purchasing it, performance was more than adequate for any task. Where will the iPad be in 2-3 years time? I'm worried that 1GB of RAM will eventually catch up with developers and Apple. The fact that their new phones have 1GB of RAM just seems silly. OS's can be efficient, but the more you do, the more RAM you need - and for premium devices like this, I really want more.
Lastly - I almost brought this back. Between the 16GB limitation and the few OS bugs I ran into (that corrected themselves with iOS 8) I was frustrated. I had some horrible slow downs that I couldn't explain, and simply, the OS wouldn't tell me what was wrong. iOS 8 mostly fixed my problems, and I've found that I simple should just consume media via streaming on this, and avoid large apps. I mostly use it for reading and browsing - both which it does well. I bought it on sale, and at this point in it's lifecycle, I'd probably recommend waiting for the 'new' one that is sure to be due out soon. The iPad Mini Retina is a wonderful device in many ways, but Apple's starting to show it's age (and it's focus on high margins) in it's devices.

This is my second ipad--my first one was a an iPad 3, and while I like it, I really like the smaller sized iPad mini with Retina display. It's so much faster than my ipad 3, and the screen clarity is much better too. I never liked typing on my ipad3, but I do like typing on my mini because it's actually more like texting. It fits quite well in my hands, plus it's lightweight. I have not travelled with the mini yet, mainly because I broke my ipad 3 while traveling. (typical screen crack) A little leery of taking it on a trip, but I really don't want to be without it. Great for reading all of my newspapers and magazines too!

ery simple set-up and easy to use and navigate. Handles well and is very easy to hold in one hand. Display is sharp and crisp easy to read too. I debated between this and the air but decided on this because it was easy to handle. I have nothing against the air but liked the smaller more compact size of the mini. Either way you would not be disappointed both are equal except in size. If you're looking for the best tablet all around this is it. You won't be sorry. Highly recommended for it's performance and ease of use. Apple continues to put together the best built tablet around. Definitely a winner !!!!

I bought my IPads at Best Buy for a very reasonable price and I really appreciate there service! You dont feel like the salesperson is hiding from you. You get the since they genuinely want to help you. I've become a big fan of Apple products and thought I wanted a bigger screen but the size of my IPad mini 2 is perfect. Everything runs seamlessly! I can send and receive facetime calls and messages. The battery life is great too! There's nothing negative to say about this product.

The iPad mini with retina display is the best tablet for most people.
The display is clear and much better than the non retina screen from the older iPad mini. The A7 processor offers great performance and the battery life is superb.
That being said, this iPad mini with Retina display at $399 is a lot more expensive than either the Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HDX - both tablets with better screens than the mini. My main gripes with the Android tablets in general are that the tablet apps in the Google Play store tend to be fewer and lesser in quality than the Apple Ecosystem.

I bought this for my brother for his birthday as a replacement for his Kindle and it's been great for him. Apple products are made with great quality and the Apple operating system (iOS) is much more fluid than the Amazon android system for Kindle. He loves it and only uses the Kindle now for downloading movies/TV shows from Amazon Prime Instant Video. I definitely recommend to anyone. The iPad Mini 3 is not worth it right now because all it has over the Mini 2 is TouchID. They both have A7 processing chips, same camera, same display, and same dimensions.

I've been trying to find a good deal on an iPad mini 2 for my mom, and I seen in an email that they were $50 off. So that day I went to my local best buy store and they had it in stock. I also had a $5 coupon for my birthday that they also accepted, so I got a $300 iPad mini 2 for $245 before tax. Even if I paid full price it would have been well worth it. iPads are hands down the best tablets on the market (I myself have an iPad Air 2) they are incredibly fast and simple to use and manage.

Picked this up as a Geek Squad Certified open box to replace my ailing Gen 1 iPad. I am so glad I did! I use it to aid me of photography shoots. my Gen 1 did not have the OS for all of the current apps. This thing runs so much smoother, faster, and the screen is SHARPER. When I look at photos, I am impressed. The smaller size of the mini is nice to fit I'm my larger camera bags too.

I switched from an iPad Air to the iPad mini because I wanted something easier to carry around. The mini is great -- fits into my pocketbook and adds only a little weight. I travel a lot and not only can I have maps, downloaded guidebooks and other reading material at my fingertips, but the camera is very good and there are many easy to use editing features available so I've ended up with a great collection of photos from my travels. I'm very happy with my purchase.

My wife has a full sized iPad, but wanted one to fit into her purse for portability. The iPad Mini 2 is easily transportable and the screen is almost as large as her full sized iPad. The camera is fantastic and the resolution is superb. It is just the right size to go everywhere yet not be too small to be useful. It is the perfect "Goldilocks" tablet - not too small and big enough to be useful - just right.
