    Love It!

A bit of background on myself. I'm an IT professional with 10 years in the industry. This iPad mini is the replacement for my full size 1st gen iPad. I did purchase another tablet that was cheaper, but it in no way stacks up to the iPad mini. I love having what amounts to an iPad 2 but in an ~8" screen. I use the mini on a daily basis for work and for play. I can use it or most of the day for a wide range of things and still have plenty of battery left over at the end of the day. The build quality is typical of Apple. Very solid and durable. Screen quality is not quite what the full size newer generation iPads are, but it still is great. It might be smaller physically, but you're still getting everything on the screen that the larger iPad 2 puts on the screen. Just scaled down a bit smaller. I've you've used an iPhone or an iPad, then iPad mini will be right at home with you. If you need portable, then it will work out great. You can hold it in one hand easily because of the smaller size and less weight. Head to the store and try it out! You won't be disappointed!

    Perfectly-sized iPad for iOS needs

    Posted .

For me, while I've always wanted to get an iPad, the cost had been the biggest driver against getting a second Apple device (I'm already an iPhone 5 user and have been with Apple's phones since the iPhone 3G, so I'm pretty familiar with the brand's evolution). So, when I heard that the smaller form factor for the iPad was coming out via various tech blogs, it got my attention. I think this device is great. Basically, anything that you can do with a full-sized iPad can be done on an iPad mini. Only with the mini, it's smaller (but not squinty-eyed smaller!), thinner (built very similarly to the iPhone 5's encasement), and therefore lighter and easier to carry around and operate. Regarding the screen, I think the casual observer ought to treat negative reviews about it with a very large grain of salt. While it is true that it's a bit unfair to, say, put an iPad "4" up against a mini (retina display will always be better), one has to ask, why are you getting a mini? For me, it's purely a utilitarian device, and the screen is by no means terrible. In fact, it displays photos and other similarly high-resolution graphics without issue. So, go take a look for yourself -- I don't think you'll be disappointed on that front. Regarding actual performance. Mine is wifi-only, so therefore the monster battery that's in an iPad (compared to what's in an iPhone) easily lasts all day, even if you're a reasonably-heavy game player. Also, I've seen no screen stutter or underperformance with the device "merely" having Apple's A5 chipset. So far, all actions have been smooth and all applications perform as expected. Bottom line: If you're on the rhetorical fence over whether or not to get this iPad, don't just take a review for it -- get into a Best Buy or other retailer and check out the device for yourself, especially if you're considering an Android device purely based on price. I know a lot of Andriod users who truly are happy with their devices, but I give Apple the edge not only for ease of use in iOS, but for solidly-built products. I really think it sells itself, even if displayed next to an "iPad with retina display!"

Using Mini More Than Regular iPad Now

    Posted .

Besides owning several Mac computers, I've owned the iPad, iPad 2, iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. I opted not to buy the 3rd and 4th generation iPads in anticipation of the iPad Mini. And my decision not to upgrade to the 3rd & 4th generation iPad was NOT a mistake. The iPad Mini, although deemed by some as an entry level iPad, is just as good if not better than the iPad 2 which is the entry level model of the full sized iPads. The Mini is perfect in size and weight. After using the Mini and then using the iPad 2, the iPad 2 feels so much heavier and bulkier. As a result, I find myself using the Mini more than the iPad 2. Apple and the Mini is getting some negative critiques regarding the display of the Mini because it is not a Retina Display like the 3rd & 4th generation iPad. To be honest, in my opinion, the Mini display is more than adequate. In fact, it is better than the iPad 2! My IPhone 4S has Retina Display and I don't even notice the difference. Why Apple chose to not make the Mini with Retina Display is simple...to make it an entry level iPad at this point in time. I'm sure next year's iPad Mini will have the A6 processor and the Retina Display. Comparing the iPad Mini to the 7 inch tablets in the market is like comparing Apples to Oranges. Reviews keep indicating that the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 displays are better than the Mini. I beg to differ! Yes, those displays may be more crisp or clear, but the Mini has more real estate. And overall, whether one chooses the Mini or the other is a matter of one's preference. Some prefer the Apple iOs and some prefer the Android platform. To each their own. My prediction will be that the iPad Mini will eventually equal perform and possibly out perform the regular iPad at some time in terms of units sold and revenue generated for Apple. Apple now has 2 distinct markets for those that prefer a larger tablet or a smaller tablet. Having both, I prefer the Mini.

    Perfect Size, Perfect Tablet

I bought this to help reduce my load in carrying large binders of papers around and just overall fun with it. I was very torn between the Ipad Mini 32 gb and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. The advantage of the Galaxy was a slightly larger screen and a little cheaper in price. The downfall for the Galaxy was I already had a lot of money tied up in apps with my Iphone and I would have had to purchase new apps because of the Android IOS. I bought the mini and it did not disappoint. I was able to find a free app with Adobe so I could have my PDF files at the tip of my fingers wherevever I went. Because Apple products have proprietary software, you can't actually store the PDF files on your tablet/mini, but Adobe allows you to create an account similar to Dropbox where you can download them from your user account. This worked fantastic and the free app had exactly what I needed. There were several other apps that dealt with PDF files that were more advanced, but would have been wasted money for what I was trying to do. I was able to read all of the documents without having to zoom in and the overall size of the mini was a plus, because I did't want to lunk around a larger tablet. All of my apps for my Iphone work great on my mini with extremely minor visual degradation (apps for Iphone are set for screen size and resolution for Iphone). I was able to use digital copy to Itunes as well and have several movies downloaded to my mini. So if you buy movies, buy them with the digital copy so you can download them to the device. I would recommend buying the disc version with digital copy because purchasing directly from Itunes is the same price or more and you only get the digital version, which is the same version you get when buying the combo pack from the store. Tranferring them is very easy and you can swap them out quickly when you sync to Itunes from your PC. The volume buttons are flipped to the opposite side for those that are used to the Iphone layout, but other than that, everything is just like the Iphone. There is also no flash for the camera, so beware in case you planned to use it as your camera for dark situations. Excellent product and exceptional battery life. I only used about 20% of the battery watching a 2+ hour movie. I'm also using the Otterbox Defender case. Its fantastic, protects it very well and is 2 piece. The case wraps around the entire thing and the screen protector is incorporated with the case, so you don't have to worry about putting it on yourself and screwing it up. Its very receptive as if there's nothing on the screen unlike some protectors I've used on my Iphone.

    I love my iPad Mini

    Posted .

I have never owned an iPad before this mini and I have to say I probably never will. I love the size of it like everyone else has been saying and I love how fast it is. It's literally perfect. Price? It's an apple product... and that's exactly what you're paying for. **to the people who are griping about the price, you still bought it didn't you? *** to the people who don't care about the price, you're just wanting good hard facts, it's perfect. I bought the 32gb so as when I go traveling I can watch movies and play games on it. Battery life is stupendous! I have not put it down since I got it and I play on it all day for at least 6-12 hours for work and school depending on the day and I don't ever worry about needing to bring my charger along. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone hands down. It's a great gift for kids as well as adults in college or even just for fun. A++ for apple

    What I've been waiting for

    Posted .

I travel a great deal and for while traveled with a regular iPad, but it just got somewhat cumbersome. So, when Apple introduced the Mini I ordered one, but only got a 16gb. I quickly knew this was the device for me. I happen to go to Best Buy and they had a 32GB in White. I purchased it and sent the other back to Apple. This thing is so thin and light... its just makes taking it with me on my daily travels so very easy. I use this mini so much more than I did the full sized iPad. I will say the display initially having had a iPad 3 and iPhone 5 was disappointing because it didn't have a retina display. However, after using it for few weeks I now hardly even notice it. Everything else about this out weighs any of my issues with the display, which now really is a non issues. I also love that because of the size, I can plug the iPad Mini into my JVC head unit, control the iPad Mini from the head unit for my own music via the Music App and I can also do this with Pandora. What a huge plus this is because previously the full size iPad didn't work so well for this. I had purchased an iPod Touch, which I was able to return and ultimately the mini saved me money. I just couldn't be happier with this purchase and I think many that buy it initially are turned off by the display not being retina. Instead of using it for a couple of weeks, they immediately return it. These kinds of knee jerk reactions will cost them the pleasure of using what in my opinion is the best iPad to date. I think eventually Apple will make this baby retina, but for now its great.

I purchased the iPad mini for my 7 year old son and I to share. I was already an iPhone user and he had a iPod as well. That made setting up the iPad very simple. Before purchasing the iPad, I also researched the Kindle Fire. I also considered a full iPad, but quickly ruled it out because the size (to me) is just obnoxious. In the end, because we have already invested in so many Apple apps and all of our music and movie library is in iTunes format, I decided making the switch to the iPad made the most sense. I read several reviews that complained about the iPad's resolution, especially when reading books, but I use the Kindle app and have no complaints (for comparison, I also own a regular Kindle). I also watch TV on it quite frequently and have been impressed with the picture resolution as well as the speed. I never have any buffering issues; the streaming is seamless. In the end, I chose the 32 gb iPad so that I could put more of my son's movie library on it for trips. I currently have 9 movies, most of my music library and countless apps installed and I still have about 8 gbs of space left to expand. If you're an iCloud user, you might choose to stick with the standard 16 gb size, but because we don't often have Internet access when we're away from home, I wanted to be sure I had what I wanted available. Lastly, because my 7 year old son was going to be using the iPad as well, I purchased an Otterbox case and while it adds some bulk, it was well worth it to purchase such a durable case. If your kids will be using the iPad, I recommend a good case to protect your investment. Although the price is a lot more than the Kindle Fire I originally considered purchasing, I am very happy I decided to go with the iPad mini.

    Amazing Device

    Posted .

I have owned an iPad since the iPad 2 came out, and I love my iPad mini by far more than my two previous iPads. Don't get me wrong, I love the iPad mini's "bigger brothers." But i just seems that the iPad mini is the perfect size and weight. I can carry it in one hand (and I have average size hands), and I find the keyboard comfortable to type on both in horizontal and vertical positions. I use iMessage a lot, and I find that I can type just as well in vertical position as I do on my iPhone. It's a great price, too. One thing to note is that if you're coming from an iPad 3 which has a Retina display, you will notice a difference in the quality of the screen. But I find it hardly noticeable, so that wasn't too much of a biggie for me. Battery life is excellent as well. I haven't had enough time to see how long the battery will last, but after loading apps and music and playing with it for a few hours, I have to say the battery life held up pretty well. Apps run smooth and quickly, and I haven't had any hiccups. I'm also very impressed with the design, too. I love the black aluminum on the back, although I am concerned that over time it is prone to scratching easily. Overall, I think this is an excellent item produced by Apple, and (in my opinion) is the best out of the iPads they currently offer. If you buy this iPad, you won't be disappointed.

    My iPad is lonely now...

I've been using the iPad since 2010 and it never felt quite "right." Typing was awkward, always needed to have a lap to rest it on and forget about using it while lying down. The 3rd gen didn't fix much except it was maybe lighter. The moment I held an iPad mini, I knew the end was near for the full size. It fits in one hand. It's practically weightless and yet it doesn't really feel like you lose much screen real estate. The processor feels snappy, I can't really tell that it is using an older chip than the 3rd gen. Once this model figures out how to apply a retina display without compromising battery life, we'll have a perfect device. I love love love it.

Amazing! Blows kindle and nexus away.

    Posted .

This is the best tablet I have owned by far. The size is perfect and its so light holding it for extended periods doesn't tire your arm! The screen resolution could have been better and while they say the camera has been upgraded my iPhone 4S takes much better pictures and video. I also own the kindle fire and nexus and like all products the touch screen is accurate and makes typing a breeze! I went with the 32 gig because as I found with the kindle 16 gig just isn't big enough. 32 is perfect. There has been so much bashing this tablet, but don't bash it until you've spent 4 hours holding it and realize its lighter than anything else. It's also thin and the screen space is much bigger than the kindle and nexus without making it as awkward as the full size iPads. I'm sure in a year they will upgrade the processor and screen resolution but for now this is the best small tablet on the market!

Even better than my iPad 2

    |
    Posted .

I loved my iPad 2 and I love the mini even more. I find the smaller, lighter form factor to be perfect. I can hold and use the mini for much longer without getting hand and wrist fatigue. I also find thumb typing typing to be easier on the mini. Everything works just as fast as it did on the iPad 2. The screen is obviously smaller on the mini but it has the same resolution as the iPad 2 and because it is smaller, actually has a higher pixel density and therefore looks better. The cameras are also of higher resolution a quality. I take pictures for various uses at work with the mini all the time and I'm consistantly impressed with pictures it takes. Its no digital SLR but for a tablet it holds its own nicely. I read a review on a website that said the mini had the best battery life of any tablet they had ever tested. Even edging out its big brother, the iPad 2. While the battery life is still excellent I actually found it to slightly underperform when compared to my iPad 2. That is a very small caveat especially since its battery life is still far better than any of its direct competitors. Build quality is superbly Apple. The new aluminum backing is a very nice upgrade. Throw in the myriad of apps found in the Apple store and Siri as an added bonus and you've got a recipe for the best small tablet on the market.

First Time Tablet Owner - great product

    Posted .

I was not the owner of any Apple products, and a friend told me that the mini ipad was coming and to wait. I purchased my ipad on the first day it came out. I like the size because I can hold it in one hand. My playlist of songs has about 30 albums in it (which are taking up 3.2 GBs) I am surprised that I am not running out of space. The apps do not take up much space. I find that I am not using my laptop because of the size of the ipad. I have many friends who have ipads so messaging them has become fun and a good source of communication. There are various apps which work offline which is helpful. I take my ipad to church and have GloBible which works offline as well as online. the battery life is great. I don't have a problem typing with both hands on the keyboard, and I am really excited about my first tablet. After two weeks of using the mini ipad I purchased a 16 GB regular ipad for my daughter who has cerebral palsy, she is also loving her ipad. In fact I synced pictures from my laptop to her ipad and she is able to look at her favorite pictures. The battery life is great. My daughter has 150 pictures in her ipad, and watches them in a slideshow all day, At the end of the day when I recharge her ipad she still has about 31% of battery time left. I see why I waited for the mini ipad. I thought it was pricey, but after using it for almost a month. The benefits of size and apps and the fun I'm having using it out weights the price.

Very handy and fun to use

    Posted .

Having been an iPhone owner for a couple of years and seeing the progression of tablets and particularly ipads, my wife and I wanted to check this one out. With 32 gigs it is virtually the same price as the ipad with retina display, but the size is very handy. As with all Apple products price just stares you in the face. I have been a loyal PC guy for many years but after having an iPhone and using this mini (when I can pry it out of my wife's hands) I may soon be looking at a Mac book Pro. Purchasing Apple products are sort of like sky-diving, you just have to jump. We are very pleased with all it's features and thousands of offered apps. We recommend it to anyone.

I love the ease of use and how easy it is to just drop in my purse or carry with me. I can surf the internet unlimited on Wi-Fi without having to pay an extra fee. Even my local Best Buy has Wi-Fi. Since I have a IPhone I can attach it to the IPad Mini and get or receive texts. I get the Photo Stream and albums shared by friends and family, just like on my phone. Even my email. It has a great camera if I happen to be somewhere I don't have a camera. My camera I may forget but my camera is like my car keys, I don't go anywhere without it!! If I do, I will almost turn around to get it. :) There are also so many apps and books you can download also. Free or for a price. My mom has my original IPad Mini so I can buy the new one!!! :)
