    WAIT FOR THE SEVENTH GENERATION

OK I admit I'm not the most technologically savvy person around, but hey it's an I-pod how smart do you have to be....apparently smarter than me. I use my I-pod for running, so when my first generation Nano poo-poo’d I figured it was time for a new one. I’d been pretty happy with my original Nano despite its reputation for fragility. I wanted the fifth generation, but they’re hard to find so I decided to take the technological leap. So what do I think? If you are into the latest and greatest this is for you. I f you value things such as an on-off switch you may want to look at other options. It’s a bit costly, but hey I knew that going in so no whining. OK, the meat of my complaints. The touch screen is small, yet fits four icons. What does that mean? Well unless you have fingers the size of Tinkerbelle it can be a bit challenging to hit the correct one. If you can pull this off while running you can probably play a xylophone while juggling. Icons can also be a bit finicky. Sometimes I press and press and nothing. Other times I’m in the general vicinity and all sorts of things happen. Note too that since it uses icons there’s no pressing while not looking, you have to see the icons to use them, good luck on that while on the move. No on/off switch! Call me old fashioned but I’m a big fan of this little guy, unfortunately Apple isn’t. Finally came to find out that you only have a “sleep” switch. Kind of works like an on/off with the exception that your I-pod must be paused for you to use it. If you’re playing music you have to pause it first, if you’re not playing music you need to start and then pause. Sorry way to complicated. What was so wrong with the on/off button? Some other oddities. Sometimes my nano will take a long pause. It’ll finish a song and I’ll have to wait over 30 seconds for the next song. First few times it happened I figured the battery was dead…nope. I then figured that after it got to the end of the play list it took awhile to get to the top again (kind of like the end of an album). Bottom line? I have no idea why this happens. I’ve also had a problem where it will start to play a song, stop and then start the same song over, and over and over. One great idea, it comes with a clip. Yes you can clip it to a pocket and it’s secure. The only downside to this is that it’s a little tough to use. If Apple would have bent the lever up or roughed up the edge it would have made it easier to use.

This is really an amazing piece of electronics! How Apple put so much technology into such a small package is incredible. The sound quality is excellent once you replace the woeful headphones Apple supplies with the Nano. Unlike many people I prefer the very small 6th generation version. I bought it primary for exercising and it clips on just about anywhere without any trouble. Then you just rotate the screen so it looks rightside up to you to get to the controls. It also interfaces seamlessly with iTunes and syncs every time you connect it to your computer. It does use the battery pretty quickly but it takes almost no time to recharge when it's connected to the computer. Pictures on it are obviously very small but very clear. People I show my pictures to on it are amazed at how clear they are. Can't speak to durability because I've only had my for about 2 weeks but so far it's holding up fine. The only problem I've had with it is that sometimes the screen doesn't react when I touch an icon on it or go backward or forward when I swipe across the screen. This isn't really a major problem because you just swipe again and it usually works the second time. All in all this is an amazing device that I use very often!

I like it, but it's good as a music player only

I really enjoy this little iPod. I got it to use during workouts because my iPod touch is to big and bulky. I've had it a month and so far it's serving its purpose well. It holds 8Gs of music, which is more than enough for me. You can find pretty much everything on iTunes, which is awesome. It has a pretty nice little screen, is very responsive, it clips anywhere and is ultra portable. It has good sound quality, but I do reccomend upgrading the apple earbuds. I like the size, it's perfect for an active lifestyle, but I'm a smaller woman and don't have big hands, so I can see how it would be to small for some people. The battery life is average, like on most electronics today. I use it for a couple hours 3-4 times a week and have to charge it twice a week. It does charge very fast when connected to my computer to. The downside, you can't watch videos, take pictures, or play games, so If you want more than just a music player, you'll want to look elsewhere. Which I'm sure will be a deal breaker for some people after the features the 4th and 5th generation nanos had.

I recieved this as a gift and it had no instructions with it. I went online and finally found the manual. The software I had for another ipod shuffle conflicted with the software for this i-pod nano. It took me 2 hours to get that figured out. I wish it had an OFF button because I like to listen to the FM radio it has while I walk. I always have a hard time getting back to the menu without changing the FM frequency. I am still having difficuties using it because I have to tap then re-tap what I want. Someone with big fingers would have a nightmare using this thing. It has to be charged daily and my battery does not last the 24 hrs. as stated in the manual. Seeing that I don't get on my computer every day this is an inconvenience. I like that it is small, has good sound, and can hold a lot of songs. It's shuffle feature is cool. The graphics are great. I like the pedometer feature. You can add the Nike+pedometer accessory which I would love if I can ever get used to this thing. It is just so frustrating for me to use.

Awesome design that distinctly stands out apple

Hi, I am not an apple fan nor use or buy apple product for myself because there are several things that I don't like about apple. But apple has good presence in Market which is why many people like it and I gift it to my family and friends. I bought this product for my mom because she likes to listen to music and I like the design. Its really nice to see such a small touch screen device that has pedometer, photo display, etc, Two things that stands out with this particular device, the first is Radio, yes the nano, in fact the apple product to have FM Radio is something nice to see. Since it doesn't have WiFi it makes sense to have Radio which is free to listen. Second thing I liked about it was watch. You can buy the wrist band and mount your iPod and it looks just like the watch, the only difference is you can have 12 different style suitable to every age group, except ladies ;), they don't want big watch. It's a great device with great feature in a compact design. I like it. Thanks, Yogi

This unit is a technological marvel with sleek Apple design and features. I wanted a unit to play music when I jog or workout, so I like the built-in clip and the lack of other features did not bother me. Easy to use and FM reception is ok with local stations but battery life is only 2-3 hours. It recharges in about 30 minutes but has to be done too frequently. I like the fact that this device is now the size of a shuffle but I would glady accept a 50% increase in size or weight to get a battery that would last 8-10 hours. The lack of a power off switch is a problem given the short battery life. As with most Apple products, a screen protector is needed. When Apple gets the battery problem resolved, I would give it 5 stars but until then, shame on them for bringing the product to market with this battery, especilly for the price they charge.

The 6th Generation iPod Nano is a great little iPod, perfect for everyday use, listening to podcasts (may I suggest MuggleCast, the #1 most listened-to Harry Potter podcast in America), listening to the radio (it even tells you the song and artist- at least for the stations I listen to), and even as a wristwatch (except that I wouldn't recommend it, because I would be afraid of scratching the screen). The 8 GB of memory are beyond sufficient for me. My computer recognizes it easily, and with a wall-charger-adapter-thingy, it's sooo easy to charge- and fast! I've had mine for a year and I still haven't had any problems with it. I would recommend this iPod for use at the gym, in the car, while cleaning, and during those boring business meetings (just make sure you're at the back of the room :))! Thank you, Apple! Next step, Macbook Air (for now, I'm stuck dreaming...)

I absolutely love this ipod. Remember "NANO" means small not big. I have had the 1st gen nano and the 2nd gen nano. This is a great update. I like how easy it is to use and how it responds. Many people complain "look they took the camera off and the speaker and the video playback" . Really do you guys watch movies in a little 2.2 inch screen. The nano is the perfect companion for joggers and runners. This is a great update they also have a built-in clip now like Steve Jobs said in the keynote "No More Arm Bands Needed" Spt.1, 2010 Steve Jobs. This is a great update. I recommended it if you are a jogger or a runner.

I would give this product a zero if the review allowed. My primary use is for workouts and long car rides. I could care less about pictures, really on a 1 x 1 screen? And I haven't ventured into podcasts yet, but am intrigued. The earphone connection doesn't work. I had to constantly move it around to get stereo sound. I thought I might be able to work with this, but the jostling from my w/o had the thing cutting in and out so much in the first five minutes that I was so frustrated that I quit my workout so that I could return it pronto. Add to this that only the Apple earphones work with the FM connection, and, if you are like me and can't use the apple ear buds, the FM option is worthless. I had trouble with the touch screen also. There's not enough of a "null" area around it and when you try to adjust the clip while playing tunes, you invariably hit a touchscreen command. Since I have to clip the player to the bottom of my shirt during a w/o this is a major inconvenience.

I recently purchased this MP3 Player after buying another smaller version without the touch screen. I use this MP3 Player on my motorcycle and found that I needed the touch screen display where the previously purchased one did not have. This player also has the abilitiy for you to change the song just by shaking it. Which is good that you dont have to push a button or have to look at the screen to change to another song...however when attached to my jacket I have hit a few bumps in the road that caused it to change while riding. Good thing I like all my music loaded so it really doesnt matter what is playing. I did purchase other more comfortable earphones as with all the standard sets provided in anything now a days they are just not comfortable and dont stay in my ears.

I have owned at least 6 different mp3 players. This is the only one I returned. The touch screen is just too much of a hassle to deal with. It is the perfect size for the population of LILIPUT. You have to put so much energy into using the tiny touch screen and focusing on in that it negates enjoyable use. I can control my 2G SHUFFLE effortlessly without taking it out of my pocket and navigate quickly. The point is to enjoy the music without having to break focus on what you are doing. The controls are poorly thought out and it made me miss my cheap SANSDISK player even though it had poorer sound quality. Stick to a SHUFFLE and put energy into organizing your playlist options. The SHUFFLE stays but the NANO went back!! All the NANO display does is run down battery and make you angry, you really don't need one!!

I purchased the ipod nano for my 70 year old mom, who is an avid walker. She can use email on her computer, but is generally not comfortable with technology. My daughter set the device up for her, downloaded the iTunes software to grandma's computer and uploaded a few CDs to show her how to work the device. Now Mom is off and walking and loving her new ipod! The device is so small, yet the controls are very easy to use and intuitive, so that in no time she was able to master its use. The storage capacity is more than ample. We bought her an arm band for it, but the clip that is part of the device is a nice feature as well, and seemed sturdy.

I have previously owned an 8gb video Ipod so the shift in size was a big change. However I do love the small size for when I go for runs as there it doesn't shuffle around when it is in my pocket and I do not need to spend money on what I think are awkward arm bands. What I dislike about the nano however is that it is really small, at least for a clumsy person like me I find myself dropping it often. I also find the touchscreen to be not extremely accurate, I would touch to play one song and it would sometimes pick another song to play.

Although the Ipod sound is very good there are some features with the 6th generation I find annoying. The nano has a "automatic" battery saving feature that makes the screen go to sleep after 20 seconds. There is no way to keep it from doing this other than hit the wake button very often. The Ipod has allot of nice features including fitness items such as a pedometer. They were easy to set up and I use them often. The screen in difficult to navigate when working out especially if your hands are damp. The touch screen was not made for big fingers. I would suggest making some playlists when you need it to play for an extended time.

I love this little I-pod. My husband got me one for Christmas and once he saw how much I was enjoying it and how much I ramped and raved about it, we went out and bought him one too. I found this device to be easy to use. I especially love the touch screen feature, I like the fact that it is very compact . I wish they sold a cover for it because I'm afraid the face will get scratched up. I am not a technical person and when I say setting up and downloading music (from I-tunes) is as easy as 1-2-3, I'm not exaggerating. This one is a keeper for me.

    Music Cuts Off

I bought the blue 8GB Nano yesterday. I spent about 3-4 hours learning and putting my music on the Nano. When a song is choosen to play, it plays fine for 20 seconds, then the screen goes black and the music shuts off. You have to consistently play with the screen or leave it plugged into the computer to keep the song playing. If it powers down, you have to hit the power button again and remove the song from pause to pick up where you left off. I'm carrying it back today. According to the little instruction booklet that came with it, when the screen powers down, the song is to continue playing. I always seem to find the lemon. Now I have to waist gas to drive back to the store.

The nano has several awesome features bundled including FM receiver, playback videos, view photos, etc. However, I bought the nano to replace the previous nano which is a similar player without the screen. The usability of the new nano while running is my complaint. Although I love the screen, it's difficult to control while running. During medium to long runs, your fingers are sweaty. Subsequently navigating music or selecting radio control is difficult even while looking directly at the screen. In addition, the screen (even at maximum brightness) is difficult to see while running while the sun is out. It's a great product but not usable for runs in the sun.

If you wanted a simple music player that just plays music... has a screen to tell you what you are listening to.... You hit the jackpot! You'll love this thing and it has reasonable sound quality too... 5 stars If you missed: GAMES, CAMERA, VIDEO PLAYBACK, real buttons for playback control.... ok, this thing will disgust you... so 1 star from you... simple enough? Personally, I like everything about this new nano but seriously, I don't need a touch screen.... I want a screen, but also my real buttons... Sony is selling their 16GB walkman for $90... some people might just walk out on this nano... fun thought... nano will someday have 3g and pandora...

Purchased this item wih lots of enthusiasm and learned how to use it, especially downloading pictures. The Nano froze up. Went to Best Buy more than four times and each time there was a different solution. On my last visit I even took my Desk top for them to check and revise. The solution was to reset. Great idea but they if you create a folder and store the music, but they didn't do that so everything was lost. I had over 700 songs downloaded, hours of work down the drain. I was angered to say the least. I went home found my receipt, went back and returned the item to get my money back. It wasn't a Best Buy because somebody goofed.

I bought this for my 50+ mother in law and she was able to set it up and download the music etc. without any help from us! Anyone who has used a computer at work on a daily basis would be able to use this device and enjoy music the same day as receiving it. It is nice and small so she can toss it in her purse. Not to mention this new Micro Ipod has an FM transmitter. That feature wasn't available on the older models (which I have). Personally, I am more of a FM radio listener than the type to dig out my personal music collection since the FM radio mixes it up for me. :)
