new to mac, like it so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i wanted a way to get into the MAC world without spending $1300 for a laptop. This is a great solution. The transition is a bit frustrating for an old PC guy like myself but getting easier. Going to take an intro class or two at the mac store to understand the more complicated actions i know how to do on PC. Once that is done i may drop PC completely.

A poor release from Apple
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Find a 2012 quad core i7 while you still can! Apple released this 2014 Mac Mini and here are the things you can no longer do: - Upgrade the RAM yourself. People will say that Mac Mini's are not for people who like to tweak their machines but the 2011 and 2012 Mac Mini's actually had a removeable door and instructions on apple.com showing you how to replace and upgrade RAM chips yourself. It was as easy as changing the batteries in your remote control. - You can no longer add a second drive. Many people were able to build their own fusion drives or have one magnetic drive and one SSD. This was for advanced tweakers, but still relatively easy for someone who can following 10 steps from a website. Yes, you can pay Apple $1399 for a built to order 16GB of RAM + 1TB fusion drive Mac Mini with i7 dual core. But here is an important specification you can not pay for. The 2012 Mac Mini had a i7 Quad Core processor option. You can no longer order a Quad Core processor in the 2014 model at any price. What does this mean? If you do any CPU intensive tasks like run Virtual Machines, CAD, Photoshop, etc The 2014 model is 50% slower than the 2012 model when running multi core applications. Now for the good. The Iris and Intel 5000 GPU are a slight step up from the 2012 model Intel 4000 GPU. Apple also dropped the Firewire port for a second Thunderbolt port. (Some may still need firewrre, so beware) WiFi speeds have been improved with 802.11ac support if you have a 802.11ac airport/wifi router. I can not recommend this machine except for the most basic tasks. One can only hope Apple will make some adjustments from the outcries in the follow up model.

pixelation on wake up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.thank you best buy for being a trusted retailer when something is not correct its a no hassle exchange and for that I give best buy 5 stars unfortunately I have to give the Mac Mini a one star I exchanged 3 units all with the same issue once the unit fell asleep on wake up the screen was either snow or pixelated it's a huge problem that apple is not talking about. you can google this issue and see hundreds of people with the same problem the workaround is just set it where it doesn't fall asleep but who wanted to do that I wanted it to work correctly. Best Buy was wonderful on the exchange without hassle I upgraded to the mini Mac and have not had that issue at all tickled to death with the product

Solid package for slight overprice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Standard apple product, well designed and with fluid software albeit you pay a little more. Worth it in this day and age. Ethereum is coming soon though so we'll see how cloud and virtual machines evolve from here.

It's pricey but works well
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can probably buy a PC that is half the price of this but if you have Apple eco system in your house, it is worth the investment. Too bad memory is not upgradable.

Read the specifics before you buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The "new" Mac Mini is a major downgrade compared to the last release back TWO YEARS AGO. You can no longer upgrade the RAM yourself - it is soldered in. So you have to pay Apple $200 for an extra 8gb of RAM when you buy it. There is no quad core cpu available. And if you want anything even remotely close to a good CPU, you have to pay an extra $300 JUST to upgrade to an i7. This product is such a let down, have been waiting for over a year to upgrade to the new model and now it looks like my time has been wasted. If you wanted to, I guess you could pay $1500 to max out one of these things, but paying that much money for a low to mid-range performing computer is pretty dumb.

Nothing but problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had many problems with my Mac Mini. I have had to take it to the Naperville store 2 times since the purchase and have been on tech support many times. The Mac now does a total restart every time I turn it on. Guess I should be happy it turns on.

Vital port missing for audio lovers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is no optical audio out port, so this Mac is not suitable or connecting to audio systems that don't have HDMI-in ports. This affects the ability to use the Mac as an iTunes music center, and the ease of creating a surround sound cinema experience.

Painfully slow! the cure? Trade up!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought a “brand new” Apple Mac mini on 1 Jan 2018 and got a few surprises 1. It is painfully slow -think 8088 with a 5 1/4” floppy drive slow. 2. The normal 30 day return policy does not apply to a Mac. It is 14 days for a Mac mini. Tried to return or trade up on day 16 Best Buy said no can do. 3. The Mac mini I bought new in Jan 2018 was built in 2014! 4. Apple genius says it’s slow because it “only has” 4GB OF RAM with the added plus that my late 2014 model is NOT upgrade-able!!!! 5. I didn’t read any reviews before my purchase nor did the kindly Best Buy sales person offer any advice. I thought, “hey, it’s an Apple product. What more do I need to know? Would I encourage someone to buy a Mac mini? Absolutely! Buy mine, PLEASE!

Not up to Apple standards
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can not see how this thing received the rating it has. Mine needs to be rebooted ant least twice a day. It is slow to open a program. Will lock up in the middle of use. I have 963.6 GB available of 998.98 I had a iMac with 4 GB memory that was faster than this one with 8 GB. Owned it for 8 years without a problem. The Mac Mini, less than two years and all kinds of problems. Spend a little bit more and buy the iMac.

Not a good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After two years of use, this is my third visit to the Genius Bar. The HDMI port is broken and the only solution is substitute the motherboard . I mean, pay $339 for a computer that is two years old and very little use. Its not worth for the money I paid. Look around for other brands cheaper and better quality.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Anyone considering this computer keep in mind the memory is soldered into the computer and is not user upgradable. You will be paying $200 to $300 for $80 with of memory. Very disappointed.
