I upgraded from my 2022 M1 Max Mac Studio with 32 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. While that computer was nearly flawless, a few small things while not deal breakers on their own, combined they added up to irritate. I am a small business owner and have about 25-30 apps open at a time. Slack, Chat GPT, Zoom, Outlook, Word, Excel, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Etc. I would notice that the windows opening and closing in Finder could slow down just a bit and sometimes I'd get the dreaded beachball for a few seconds. I was also running out of space on the internal 512 GB SSD even though I only use that for app installs and use an external 2 TB NVME M.2 SSD for documents. I recently bought a WiFI 6E mesh system for my office and the M1 Max only supports WiFi 6. Finally Bluetooth 5.3 offers better range and connectivity over 5.0. Those were the little things that annoyed me. The major advancement in the M4 Max is support for hardware ray tracing in the GPU that came with the M3 generation. I do game once in a while (can't work all the time!) and finally AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077 are coming to Mac so I wanted a beefier graphics card. This M4 Max Mac Studio has been a beast! All the little problems that annoyed me in the M1 Max are gone. Everything runs a lot faster and snappier than on the M1 Max. H.265 video exports in my video screen capture app (Screenflick) that took me 2 mins are cut to 1 minute. That was expected as the M4 generation made the huge leap forward from the M1 with better video encoders and decoders. I feel that this beast will last me at least 5 years, probably 10 but I know I'll get bored around 5 years and upgrade to get the latest and greatest Apple tech. As in all things in life, you get what you pay for. I realize this isn't cheap. It is an investment. This is the pinnacle of Apple computing at the moment. As a small business owner, this machine is essential to my livelihood. It makes me money and is a business expense that I can amortize over the next 3 years. I need rock solid reliability without any downtime, and just like my M1 Max Mac Studio, I know this will also deliver. Just buy it. You won't regret it.
